Wtf is going on with Sainsburys?

Small DC and I are supposed to be self-isolating for another whole week.

No delivery slots available, ever apparently, and we’ve almost no food left because we didn’t panic buy (just the usual stuff plus a few extra bits, but not much extra as we’ve limited storage anyway).

The DC are going to be very hungry indeed by next weekend. Thanks a bunch, Sainsbury’s

I managed to get a slot at about 5am yesterday morning! Thanks insomnia. This was for tonight.

I just logged on now to see if I could get one for my parents in their late 70s and it’s gone back to only extremely vulnerable people again. I’m wondering if I got one by mistake now.

Maybe worth trying that?! Who needs fucking sleep, eh?

No Click and Collect either, even if someone else could go pick up the order.

Ask a friend to pick up food for you. We're in isolation too, and I have had 3 mini deliveries from friends because most people don't have enough food to feed a family for two weeks lurking in their house.

If you want to avoid that, try ringing all the little shops near you and asking if they deliver, you might be able to get meat and veg that way. Have a good look through your local Facebook pages, that will tell you where to start.

If you’re really desperate try Deliveroo. They will deliver local shops now. I looked yesterday and had loads of slots. Be warned it is obviously slightly more expensive but it’s worth it in my opinion

• not slots wrong choice of words but basically I could order milk and bread to be delivered in next hour. Depends where you live on how quickly can get to you. My mum couldn’t get it delivered to her as she’s rural but we’re in city so easier

If you do find somewhere that offers click+collect, some local taxi companies are offering to collect and drop off supermarket orders.

Have you already checked your local facebook town group for local businesses delivering food in your area? Companies that normally sell to restaurants are doing veg boxes and sundries to private households.

Buying enough food so you have supplies to last should you have to self isolate ISNT panic buying!

OP can you not get a friend or neighbour do a shop for you? Or there are lots of community groups helping people / try contacting them via FB, next door or council outreach. I'm sure you will find something.

I did a calm and isolated shop at Tesco today. But they are only letting in one person per household. This will be difficult for single parents.

I gave up trying to get a delivery slot with Sainsbury’s. I’d been trying for about 4 days to book something. Tried Asda instead and got one no problem.

Have you tried other supermarkets? I managed to get an Asda delivery slot for a weeks time. A friend of mine managed to get Iceland pretty quick too. I think you cant afford to be fussy at this time tbh

As I said, limited storage. And we had some supplies, but we’ve eaten them over the last week of self-isolation.

They’re saving the slots for venerable people which is absolutely the right thing to do. Theses are people over 70 or who catching would be very serious. It’s to stop the NHS being completely overwhelmed. If you are one of these people then fill out the government form.

I know it must be scary if it just the two of you. Do you have any friends neighbours family who could grab you the essentials. The other possibility is farm shops which still seem to be delivering. Or if you’re left with no alternatives and really can’t leave the house are you willing to put maybe the first four of your postcode, someone on here could help.

I would also recommend checking Iceland, Asda and Morrisons.

It's not about close friends when it comes to food for your family.

School mums and my work colleagues have all willingly dropped around food for us.

We have no family for miles and are close friends are all in isolation too.

I'm going to make a point of dropping food around for anyone I know in isolation when we get out!

If you are in a big City try all of the other supermarkets or Amazon or look up services that can deliver local. Sainsbury’s appears to be the worst around where I live and also in my neighbouring county where my sister lives, her DH is over 70 and when she logged on the website said no priority.

OP:

1. Use other supermarkets
2. Look online for suppliers of restaurants, pubs and cafes as they are doing home deliveries
3. Reach out to everyone you are acquainted with
4. Go on Facebook as there are volunteers in your local area who will help you.

Which big city? I can help if we are in the same.

Like @MiaMoo007 we used ASDA. although the site was frustrating and it took an hour to check out. No slots on any other online supermarkets for delivery or click and collect, so gave up.

Do you have any of shops near? Some of the smaller food shops like butcher, fishmonger and grocers have started delivering around here.

Check on Facebook if any friends have orders booked and if you can add to the order that’s what we’ve been doing, me, next door and friend round the corner have been doing group orders, sorting it when it arrives and then sending a message to say ‘come and get it’ it’s then left in bags outside the house so we can just grab and go.

Get a Morrisons box? You don't get a choice what's in it but they aren't limited on slots.

Sainsburys near me, large-ish store but in a quiet area hasn't had most stuff for nearly 2 weeks since panic buying started. Fresh fruit/veg, but pretty much anything else non-existent. I hear Aldi or independent shops are better stocked.

I would say if you're self isolating as you have you count as a vulnerable person because if you do go out to the shops you could give it to many more people - some of whom may be vulnerable and have serious consequences. Try other supermarkets first though and look on local Facebook groups for local businesses or wholesalers who are now doing home delivery as restaurants have shut.
