Wtf is going on with Sainsburys?

Small DC and I are supposed to be self-isolating for another whole week.

No delivery slots available, ever apparently, and we’ve almost no food left because we didn’t panic buy (just the usual stuff plus a few extra bits, but not much extra as we’ve limited storage anyway).

The DC are going to be very hungry indeed by next weekend. Thanks a bunch, Sainsbury’s Angry

I should’ve panic bought, shouldn’t I?

On NextDoor app local suppliers are saying what food boxes they do. If you are in London, look up food boxes Covent Garden, there's a list of suppliers.

Pishposhpashy · 28/03/2020 06:08

It isnt just sainsburys, it is literally every supermarket. I've been checking asda, ocado, waitrose, tesco, sainsburys and morrisons every day, multiple times (including in the middle of the night). Zilch.

StillDumDeDumming · 28/03/2020 06:08

My dp is being discharged from hospital on Monday. We need to isolate. He’s been on a ventilator for 5 weeks (not Covid), but he’s not classed as extremely vulnerable so we can’t get those slots. Morrison’s veg boxes have run out of slots too. I’m trying to plan ahead - maybe 3 weeks.

littlequestion · 28/03/2020 06:11

Where are you based, OP? Look on Facebook for a local Covid 19 mutual aid group. My local one is very active. It's also developed a list of local shops that will deliver.

Oysterbabe · 28/03/2020 06:11

Our Tesco released a load of click and collect slots yesterday. You can also use deliveroo as suggested.
Your options are sainsburys or starve.

KatherineJaneway · 28/03/2020 06:22

Try this website to find your local support group covidmutualaid.org/local-groups/

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/03/2020 06:23

OP see if there are volunteers locally who will pick up supplies and deliver them. Your local FB page might have details. Where I live the village shoo will now take orders by phone from vulnerable or self isolating people and them a team of volunteers will deliver the order.

cornishdreams1 · 28/03/2020 06:59

Call your local greengrocers, most are still open, and can supply milk, bread, fruit and bread. Ours were happy to deliver for 5.00.

Sticking to the larger supermarkets is probably a mistake due to sheer demand, choose somewhere local and you are likely to get a better response in my experience. You can repay them over the years with loyalty.

Clutterbugsmum · 28/03/2020 07:04

All the supermarkets are the same.

The selfish people who panic bought have now booked up all the delivery slots month's in advance. So they can build up the hoards again.

I personally think all supermarkets need to cancel anyone who has more then one delivery slot so they can only have one delivery and then all future slots are cancelled, so those people who have been unable book a slot have a chance.

humblesims · 28/03/2020 07:07

In our area (town) the local post office is delivering essentials to people who cant get out. Could you try your P.O?

Myfriendanxiety · 28/03/2020 07:07

We are on day 6 of self isolation and out of food. A local butcher has delivered meet to us, a neighbour got us bread and milk earlier in the week but I really need a proper big shop. I couldn’t even shop properly for a few weeks before this due to being key workers and shelves empty by the time I could make it to the shop.

ProfessorPootle · 28/03/2020 07:09

Our Sainsbury’s is the same, no deliveries or click and collect available for last 3 weeks or next 3 weeks. They’re now limiting numbers of people who can shop, the queue was to the back of the Carpark yesterday, my cousin went and queued, stood there 3 hours, didn’t get in and went home. We’ve started shopping in our local corner shops although the prices are extortionate. I’m going to stay up over night at some point and try and get a click and collect from another shop. My last click and collect with Sainsbury’s had half the stuff missing. Tesco are now limiting orders to 80 items. They need to sort out better systems.

FlamingoAndJohn · 28/03/2020 07:15

It’s worth joining Nextdoor. There might well be someone on there who would help you.
Post to local Facebook pages.
Try your local church. They might have set up some kind of support group.

Oysterbabe · 28/03/2020 07:20

The selfish people who panic bought have now booked up all the delivery slots month's in advance. So they can build up the hoards again.

How do you know this? It's not even possible to book slots months in advance.
The recent data suggested that the shortages were caused by thousands of people buying a bit more rather than bulk buying. Many supermarkets are prioritising delivery slots to vulnerable people.
People love to have someone to blame. Not everything is someone else's fault.

NotMeNoNo · 28/03/2020 07:26

OP our council has a phone line now where they can put you in touch with volunteers to shop. I sorted out some shopping (via local Facebook group) for a complete stranger a few roads away who is self isolating with a high risk child. I’m stuck working at home, not any kind of health professional, it’s the least I can do. Next week we could have symptoms ourself and be the ones asking for help. I’d be astonished if there isn’t something organised in your area.

Fedupofdoingit · 28/03/2020 07:33

@Marnie76 do you have a link to that form? My husband is one of those most a risk. Do you know if that would allow someone else doing shopping for you to be able to get extra items? One of my sons is doing shopping for 2 households in isolation plus his own, and isn’t allowed to go over the 2 items per person allowance, so having to do more than one shop!

Straycatstrut · 28/03/2020 07:42

This is why I "panic bought" and spent £120 in Aldi last week. I got glared at by so many people for getting so much (only 1-2 of each thing, or 1 of the most needed) just a big selection. But none of them knew my situation.

I just had an awful sinking feeling....not knowing when I'd be able to get food again. Single parent with two young boys, no car, supermarket miles away, and only my parents (60's, both have illnesses) to help. I don't want them shopping for me and putting themselves more at risk Sad

Much easier (but still hard) when it's 2 adults in the house with kids in this situation, especially if you have a car too. Really feel for you OP and hope you can get a slot.

Oldraver · 28/03/2020 07:46

I manged to get one with Asda only to get to checkout and it said it was an ivalid town or city. They have been delivering to me for years. Their telephone line wont talk to you about anything apart from current orders so I cant even find out why the glitch. They have suspended email and FB contact as well.

Waitrose no slots for love nor money, Milk and More after days of trying to get through say I no longer have an online account but 'offline' (I have milk delivered)

Widowodiw · 28/03/2020 07:46

Wow there’s people dying, nhs stretched and your berate a poster who said get a delivery slot for 5am? If you need food and that’s a possibility surely you’d do that?

Anyway try Iceland they are the only delivery slots I found round where I live.

Gran22 · 28/03/2020 07:49

@Marnie76 just being over 70 doesn't put people in the 'highest risk' category. DH has a heart condition, but its not listed. So I'm shopping as and when. Fortunately I can drive, and the supermarkets in this area (there are several) have had reasonable stocks of most things.

@Fedupofdoingit here's a link.

lovemelongtime · 28/03/2020 08:00

There are lots of facebook covid-support pages locally offering support including getting shopping in for people - try there, good luck

EricaNernie · 28/03/2020 08:03

there are voluntary groups, charities, try facebook as already suggested.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 28/03/2020 08:05

Fedupofdoingit
Is he on the government ‘shielded’ list? IE on chemotherapy, had a transplant, COPD etc? If so you should have had notification from the government already. If not you can register at
www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable . Sainsbury’s are supposedly then being informed by government who is on the list. Even then people are saying they still can’t get a slot 🤷‍♀️

bucketofgin · 28/03/2020 08:07

The selfish people who panic bought have now booked up all the delivery slots month's in advance. So they can build up the hoards again.

This simply isn’t true, at least not for Sainsbury’s - they are only releasing 3 days at a time. Maybe check your facts next time?

Anyone who can’t shop should be asking the volunteer groups. This is part of what they’re for.

WestWasnt · 28/03/2020 08:08

I got a Sainsbury’s delivery slot for this evening last night at 10pm. I don’t know what made me try because there haven’t been any for ages. There were 2 for tonight but nothing for the next 3 weeks. I guess they’d released cancelled slots. So I’d try very late at night each night if I were you. In the meantime try Facebook groups etc. Our council have a list of local shops delivering and contacts for the the volunteer group that are helping people.
