General idea of how supermarkets are doing

I can't seem to find out anywhere a rough idea if supermarket shelves are coming back to normal after the lockdown? I was thinking the supply chain would recover fairly quickly. Anyone done an essentials shop today and would mind sharing joentheu found it?

Aldi was very well stocked this morning, the only thing I couldn't get was flour (they had none at all). I noticed they had toilet roll and eggs, and plenty of meat.

There were lots of people shopping in pairs though. Why are some people so reluctant to do something so simple alone, even when there are really clear rules?

Went to Waitrose this morning at 8am. Generally the shelves were very well stocked and bountiful - however, no toilet paper or pasta.

It’s 3 across the sub category, some stores are obviously interpreting it incorrectly. So 3 each fresh milk, cheese, yogurt etc. 3 across fizzy drinks not 3 diet and 3 regular but 3 total across that sub category, 3 across cat food, 3 biscuits, 3 bread items. Wine is 3 red and 3 white so you can buy 6 total. Bottled water is 3 total, whatever flavour you’re buying.

Things like toilet roll, pasta, rice, tissues, uht milk, kitchen roll, anti bac products are limited to two max. Anti bac is sprays and wipes so only one of each if you’re getting both. Wet wipes but not baby wipes count as tissues so one pack of tissues and one pack of wet wipes is the limit. Pasta is two packs for the category not two of each type so if you want spaghetti and lasagne sheets it’ll be one of each.

I get it’s hard to follow because it’s all been set up based on the sub categories they fall under on the system and it doesn’t always make sense but to say you’re unaware of the rule at all is rubbish.

I would query someone who was saying three dairy items total because that is wrong and obviously not workable for any household.

Wafflehouse · 27/03/2020 17:49

I meant I’d query the person who removed the items not the poster saying it happened.

Please don’t go to two different shops in one outing. You are carrying your germs from home, then the germs from the first shop to the second shop then all of those home again without a hand wash.

One shop then home. Please.

Who said I didn’t clean my hands in between shops?

  • Hands washed before I left the house.
  • Sanitiser when I arrived at Sainsburys.
  • Sanitiser again when I finished loading my shopping into my car and had the trolley put away.
  • Sanitiser again when I got out of my car at Tesco.
  • Sanitiser again when I loaded the second shop into my car and put the trolley away (which was then cleaned by a member of staff who was waiting.)
  • In the house and immediately changed and showered. Clothes and shopping bags then washed.

To be fair to most of the people I saw getting in and out of their cars in both Sainsburys and Tesco - almost everyone was using hand sanitiser and a lot of people were wearing gloves.

Waffle if I'd been doing the shopping I would have queried it.

Weird that smoked salmon and ham were in the same category!

Oh, and I live in a 2nd floor flat. Tesco normally bring it to my door but today said they wouldn't because of social distancing when there's literally no difference in terms of SD for them to drop it off at the communal door downstairs and get my signature than come to my actual door with no other people around, as always.

It wasn't easy to carry all the bags up 2 flights if stairs but a lot of people would just not have been able to. At all.

There were 2 male deliverers (usually 1 only) and one did say 'can someone give you a hand?' To which I said it'd be fine. Which it was in the end but for more vulnerable people, it would not be.

Persona that’s ridiculous Lidl is on my way home and I used antibacterial on leaving Sainsbury. I won’t go near a shop until next Friday. If I hadn’t gone to Lidl I’d have gone tomorrow. Zero point in 2 journeys.

Waffle did u mean 3 of particular bread items or 3 across the whole range?

kingis · 27/03/2020 18:38

Dh went to Sainsbury's this afternoon and got everything apart from chicken. He bought more that three dairy items and some other groups too. Dh bought 3kg pasta bag that was only pasta they had. They didn't have too much tins or alcohol.

greenlynx · 27/03/2020 18:40

DH went to Waitrose yesterday. It was ok, there were few gaps: no flour, no unwaxed lemons (yes, I know, it was for DD cooking project) milk and broccoli only organic, no Parmesan but there was pasta and toilet roll, and even Dettol wipes. The security measures were tough but shop still tended to be a bit crowded near meat and yogurts, obviously people were checking for dates etc. so he didn’t buy some things just because he didn’t want to spend ages in the shop looking for them.

Lacazettes · 27/03/2020 18:57

Went to a large Tesco at 3pm today. They had toilet roll and a worker was putting out pasta. Both have been OOS for 3 weeks. Not many baked beans but they did have Branstons and the reduced sugar stuff. No bread apart from fresh bakery stuff. Plenty of fruit and veg, dairy and most frozen stuff was available. DD was pleased frozen pizzas were back in stock!

Wafflehouse · 27/03/2020 19:31

Shr1nkyD1nk I think loaves are counted separately to other morning goods so you could have 3 loaves and other bits. I think it would be managers/checkouts discretion but if you were having 3 of everything from the bread aisle they might stop you. I’ve seen people get a mix of a packet of scones, a packet of crumpets, a pack of wraps and a pack of croissants.

Qasd · 27/03/2020 20:12

Couldn’t get beans or hot dogs yesterday but no problem with anything else certainly not a difficult shop compared to the Friday before lockdown - think things have calmed down!
