General idea of how supermarkets are doing

I can't seem to find out anywhere a rough idea if supermarket shelves are coming back to normal after the lockdown? I was thinking the supply chain would recover fairly quickly. Anyone done an essentials shop today and would mind sharing joentheu found it?

Only thing I couldn’t get today was zaflora.

Everything else (meat, fresh fruit and veg, bread, milk) arrived.

Didn’t ask for pasta or loo roll though.

Drivemybluecar · 27/03/2020 14:38

It seems to depend on where u are. Mine had meat this week. But no tins. My little supermarket in the village has everyone and loads of it.

milienhaus · 27/03/2020 14:38

Quite a bit better though shelves still a bit thin - plenty of meat and veg, no eggs, toilet roll or cans still.

PencilFace · 27/03/2020 14:39

I did one yesterday and the shelves were pretty much fully stocked to my relief. The only thing missing was loaves of bread although there was fresh bread.

Aposterhasnoname · 27/03/2020 14:39

I went at 5pm last night, there was lots of gaps, but the only thing I couldn’t get a reasonable enough substitute for, was rather randomly, frozen blueberries. I got soap, bread, milk and............ loo roll. I was so shocked I texted DH to tell him.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 27/03/2020 14:39

There was a massive queue to get into our local big supermarket so i left it. Tesco Express had everything except toilet roll and cleaning supplies

nevernotstruggling · 27/03/2020 14:41

Morrisons and Lidl in Plymouth where I am are back to normal

RadioRodeo · 27/03/2020 14:41

Massive queue at my local supermarket, 1 in 1 out - the line was over a km long. I'll try again tomorrow. :(

eurochick · 27/03/2020 14:44

I went to Waitrose this morning. The queue wound halfway around the car park but was fine. There was plenty of fresh food in store with just a few gaps on the shelves - the tins aisle was a bit thin, there were no crisps at all, hardly any cleaning products and very little flour. And no loo roll (but we managed to get some last week so that was no problem). They only had half the tills open so it took longer to pay than usual but was all very civilised.

Shr1nkyD1nk · 27/03/2020 14:45

New way of shopping. Q to get in but everything in stock once inside. Was actually a nicer experience.

PinkJam · 27/03/2020 14:48

Tesco this morning and the best it’s been for a couple of weeks. Pasta back in, milk, eggs, bread, meat, veg, fruit, got toilet roll and kitchen towel. Anti bacterial hand wash back in stock. Only thing couldn’t get was tinned stuff.

Iamthewombat · 27/03/2020 14:56

No bleach or loo roll. Shelves stripped of eggs again: eggs second only to loo paper as most desired item around here. One of the supermarket staff told me that they can barely get eggs on the shelves before people grab them.

Eggs. Why? Who is panic buying eggs and why?

AgeLikeWine · 27/03/2020 15:00

I went to M&S & Sainsbury’s this morning. I live in the East Midlands.

Both were operating a ‘one out, one in’ queuing system to maintain social distancing within the stores. I had to queue for around 30 mins in both cases. I heard that the queues for Asda across the road were much longer.

M&S was very well stocked with very few gaps on the shelves. Only half the checkouts were staffed. My impression was that given the very slow rate at which they were letting people in, they would struggle to shift their stock. There were already plenty of yellow sticker bargains available at 10am, many of which are now sitting in my freezer Smile.

Sainsbury’s was much more patchy in terms of stock. There was plenty of meat & fresh produce but there were lots of big gaps in other departments and all the counters were closed. There were very few tins, frozen foods or cleaning products available & very little 🍺 or 🍷 but loo roll was available.

Shr1nkyD1nk · 27/03/2020 15:02

Our massive Sainsbury’s and Licl were fully stocked.

Cornishbelle · 27/03/2020 15:07

@AgeLikeWine are you talking about thurmaston? We are in Leicester and Asda thurmaston was terrible in days leading up to lockdown. Sounds like things are getting there hopefully people are being less selfish generally now and that is also helping. Thanks for replies

The smaller supermarkets seem better stocked here than the large ones. Went to Aldi earlier this week and they had practically everything but Tesco Extra was still lacking loads of stuff - no milk, fresh meat, pasta etc. It’s a case of just going and hoping you’re lucky I suppose!

onanothertrain · 27/03/2020 15:11

I went to sainsburys, there was a queue to get in and it was one out / one in. There was no flour, tins or wine. They had Toilet roll and eggs though.

caz114 · 27/03/2020 15:11

@ Iam thewombat

My mum told me the egg shortage is due to the fact that hens lay less at this time of year. She used to keep hens
can't remember why tho

SisterVanHelsing · 27/03/2020 15:12

DH went to Sainsbury's a couple of hours ago, got everything on the list except eggs.

ilovecakeandwine · 27/03/2020 15:12

I went to Asda near me couldn't get hand wash or much soap. There wasn't much tins , pasta , rice but plenty of other things . It was a but depressing as could see some g the staff didn't want to be there . They did the best they could with gloves on and asking people to keep distance.
I've got what I needed mostly be prepared to wait to get in .

Ginfilledcats · 27/03/2020 15:12

My husband went to our towns Morrison's today and got everything he wanted, only thing still not available was pasta. Nice and calm and sensible he said

AppleKatie · 27/03/2020 15:16

No flour and limited bread here.

Limited choice on frozen stuff but there was frozen stuff which is better than last week.

Some eggs although none of the ones I usually buy.

Plenty of fruit, veg fresh stuff.

Loo roll aplenty.

Fred578 · 27/03/2020 15:16

I went to Sainsbury’s (large store) at 1pm and queued for 5 mins to get in and managed to get almost everything I wanted. The thing I couldn’t get I managed to substitute for something else. Plenty of fruit and veg and there wasn’t loads of meat but enough to have a choice

AgeLikeWine · 27/03/2020 15:16

@Cornishbelle : Other side of town: I was at Fosse Park Smile.
