Do you think there will be riots?

I’m quite surprised there haven’t been any yet! Do you think people will just snap eventually of being stuck inside and rebel against the lockdown?

OP posts:
Mimishimi · 26/03/2020 10:01

You do realise that this virus has likely been manufactured for exactly this fascist push right?

Pishposhpashy · 26/03/2020 10:11

Oh yes totally, and 9/11 was an inside job, and the moon landing was faked, and Tupac is still alive.

Divebar · 26/03/2020 10:20

Mumsnet is definitely the place to come for scaremongering and conspiracy theories. No one knows if there will be riots... I doubt it based on the fact calls to police are down significantly but time will tell.

BanKittenHeels · 26/03/2020 18:03

And the moon went missing?
And it’s all down to 5G?

TrainspottingWelsh · 26/03/2020 18:12

We realise mimi but we only discuss it with briefcases and false moustaches whilst pretending to feed ducks. Mumsnet is part of the conspiracy, it watches us through our screens. That's what all the deleted posts are, anyone that has tried to raise public awareness of your very logical theory. I only dare post now because my pack of cheddars blocks 'them' from reading my post.

ChibiTotoro · 26/03/2020 18:18

We've been told for years not to walk around in uniform/wearing lanyards because it makes you a potential target e.g the murder of Lee Rigby. Additionally people steal from ambulances etc all the time, it's just that the media doesn't normally bat an eyelid about this kind of thing which happens a lot but people are generally oblivious to.

StirCrazed · 26/03/2020 18:20

Once younger people start to realise they are not affected physically but are being screwed over financially, yeah maybe. Once the idea of lockdown as a long term state becomes more widely understood, maybe not riots but slow dissent building to an unachievable lockdown. If people are still hoping for a vaccine any day now, then maybe not.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 26/03/2020 18:28

Who knows..the main cause of the London riots seemed to have got lost and for some among the crazy amount of damage just because a case of take a photo heres me and what I've stolen...the guy with the bag of rice for example...

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/03/2020 18:29

Whereabouts are you BanKittenHeels?

Im in NI, in a really poor inner city area and we have had none of that.Shock And we're partial to an aul riot with hijacking here.Grin

AJTracey · 26/03/2020 18:41

I’m scared

BanKittenHeels · 30/03/2020 11:08

NW England (although from the same neck of the woods as you).

esjee · 30/03/2020 11:13

Well all I can see is it's been blissfully quiet here lately. There's usually tons of drunk, yelling football yob types wandering around here on a weekend or off their face druggies, but there's been not a peep from anyone.

Mintjulia · 31/03/2020 17:47

Quiet here too (south) apart from one bored teenager who’s been racing around the local roads in a beat-up fiesta. He’s on his own, so social distancing on wheels. Smile

Other than that, I can hear lawn mowers, a chain saw and next door pressure washing his car.

Hardly social unrest.

TestBank · 31/03/2020 18:00

That's week one ticked off then ...

TestBank · 01/04/2020 06:55

Week Three in Italy and articles like this start

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/01/singing-stops-italy-fear-social-unrest-mount-coronavirus-lockdown

Wait til we see if it really worked in China or not. If it didn't, riots come earlier here is my bet

Roselilly36 · 01/04/2020 06:58

Quite possibly

KatherineJaneway · 01/04/2020 07:01

Riot about what though? No one likes being inside all the time but everyone knows it is being done for our own good and the good of the country.

It's not like the riots in 2011 which started as protests against a death and were hijacked by people desperate for a fight.

Tara336 · 01/04/2020 07:03

I don’t think there will be riots, but I do think there will be some unrest if we are not released from lockdown sooner rather than later as the frustration, boredom and financial worries will become too much for some. We are all a cooperative lot really but even the most civic minded will eventually have enough and begin to rebel

TheCanterburyWhales · 01/04/2020 07:06

There are no riots in Italy.
Sky news picked up initially over the weekend the fact that a bloke kicked in a cashpoint and some yobs raided a supermarket. Then a tale of some "revolutionary" group mobilising for civil unrest. (A group no Italian has ever heard of, and neither has Google.it, which might mean of course it's highly slick and operating on the dark web. Except it's a local group of about 2000 idiots on Facebook. Stories of armed guards outside supermarkets...like every day if the week vurus or not in some areas.
The other papers and news outlets in the UK are now running with it.
Of course some people are struggling financially, the same as Britain. But a bloke kicking a cashpoint and a handful of yobs on FB does not a riot make.
I'd say, given the past decades, rioting and looting would be more likely in the UK but no I don't think they will happen there either.

cornishdreams1 · 01/04/2020 07:06

We have seen a big drop in crime across the country is the real answer.

No, I don't think there will be riots of any description. It would pointless and dangerous, and no one is that stupid. Riot against what? An invisible killer virus? There is plenty of food, plenty of box sets, the weather is great and before long we are likely to see the peak, and that will focus the mind (and not on riots)

TheCanterburyWhales · 01/04/2020 07:08

Oh, and as for the singing- that wasn't widespread either and generally done by people less interested in the fact people were dying and more interested in their viral video possibilities. It was thought in most areas to be in less than good taste given the circumstances and stopped thankfully almost as soon as it started.

TestBank · 01/04/2020 07:29

I give it six weeks if the news from China isn't promising (or trustworthy)

JorisBonson · 01/04/2020 07:33

They are on standby in North London for civil unrest. (Friend in emergency services).

I'm emergency services in South London and this is bollocks.

I love it that MN posters find new ways of scaremongering now we're settled into lockdown.

TestBank · 01/04/2020 07:40

Thing is ... if you made your money black market ... where's it coming from now? It's ok if you are wfh full salary middle class world, but for the young, who are not affected by the virus anyway in any scary way (young people quite happily take class a drugs despite occasional deaths) where's your stay home save lives incentive? Summer is coming ... riots don't start in April, but they do in June.

fartyface · 01/04/2020 07:48

Agree joris. It is the first I have heard of it too and I am briefed daily in my emergency services org.

Scare scare scare mongering.
