Do you think there will be riots?

I’m quite surprised there haven’t been any yet! Do you think people will just snap eventually of being stuck inside and rebel against the lockdown?

I'm not scared

Verily1 · 01/04/2020 08:18

I don’t think riots can materialise without a street presence of people.

TestBank · 01/04/2020 08:19

Yes I guess rioters would also have to ... not care about rules on not going out ...imagine!

JorisBonson · 01/04/2020 08:21

riots don't start in April, but they do in June.

The timings of the London riots were with the school summers holidays. There's no such thing as school, or indeed school holidays right now.

TestBank · 01/04/2020 08:26

It's the weather factor as well though. Nice weather (admittedly April can be lovely) is more likely in June, plus dissatisfaction needs to build over a few months of kettling. If it rains all June, I bet no riots!

JorisBonson · 01/04/2020 08:27

I'll stick my neck out and say there will be no riots.

There will be idiots, but no riots.

It depends if people can afford to eat, desperate people do desperate things, Italy 3 weeks on, the singing has stopped;

I thought there would be when the schools and colleges closed. Theres actually been less trouble than before and honestly I work in a rough area. So long as we have food, power and water I think we'll be ok.

StrawberryBlondeStar · 01/04/2020 08:55

I think if the lockdown goes on for over 13 weeks (into July) and we have a hot July then yes.

So many people on MN live in a bubble and do not realise how hard this is for some people. A lot of people face financial ruin, bereavement, as well as being confined too small properties with no outdoor space (imagine this with temperatures rising).

They have factored into the modelling risk of civil unrest with restrictions.

FourTeaFallOut · 01/04/2020 08:59

I think if hot weather is the tipping point rather than a disappointing summer of lukewarm days and warm drizzle, we should be fine in the North East.

sleepingpup · 01/04/2020 09:03

nope.
