Lockdown weight gain!

Thedogshow · 25/03/2020 14:34

Lighthearted. Sort of. I have gained 3lbs back of the stone that I worked very, very hard to get rid of after Christmas.
Is anyone else having a snacking nightmare? Trying to work, deal with fighting kids, home school and make all the meals. Feeling stressed about jobs, the virus etc. Drinking a joyful glass and a half of wine a night and eating WAY too much chocolate. Eating lots of healthy things too, and going on a 30 minute run, doing Joe Wicks with the kids etc every day. It’s boredom, stress and accessibility of food as we are spending most of the day in the kitchen. I know it’s not a major issue in the scheme of things. But... Help!!!

Losing about a 1lb or 2 a week atm, our appetite is lowered, I eat something small in the middle of the day, toast or slice of banana bread then dinner late evening.I always eat less when sedentary tbh. I have been drinking cans of coke every day which isn't my usual habit but it doesn't seem to be making me gain anything.

Decided no wine or alcohol at home, cut back since before christmas and just not got back into it. Brings me no joy for want of a better word. Had a bottle last weekend and concluded it isn't for me anymore, so that will reduce my calorie intake.

Inforthelonghaul · 25/03/2020 15:55

We are rationing so 3 meals a day no snacking. It’s actually working really well and everyone is hungry at mealtimes which is great. We didn’t stockpile and don’t normally buy loads of treats so it’s not there to pick on.

It’s definitely making us think about what we can do with the food that we have and use up leftovers properly. I’ve realised that we spend a lot more than we need to on food and want to learn from this.

PanicOnTheStreets85 · 25/03/2020 15:59

I'm down 5.5 pounds in a week and a half, but I'm consciously trying to lose it and joined Slimming World online in an effort to not be obese when I get the virus (only 12 pounds left to go and then I'll just be very, very overweight rather than obese!)

GrumpyHoonMain · 25/03/2020 15:59

Losing here. Combination of breastfeeding, not snacking, and trying to exercise.

Thedogshow · 25/03/2020 16:03

Well, for those asking how I have lots of food, I was pretty well prepared food-wise, so we are not low on it at the moment. I had been watching this from the beginning when it began in China (I work in science research, so it was relevant, and felt early on that the virus was not going to be contained) and gradually buying food and preparing it, and I batch cook a lot because I have 4 children, so we were pretty well stocked already.
I never normally eat things like crisps or biscuits, and in fact we don’t really have any in the house, so my snacks are things like cheese, fruit, nuts, toast.... healthy but a lot of them. And chocolate.
Anyway, it doesn’t really matter. It’s just annoying that I can’t stop eating!
Joe Wicks is great, and I am getting out for a run daily. Just getting gradually a bit more wobbly 😬. Pleased it’s not just me though! And since there are not many enjoyable things at the moment, I will enjoy my snacks.

I think it must be partly how you deal with stress. Some people eat, some don’t. I tend to snack when moderately stressed and stop eating when experiencing proper trauma, and this is definitely in the moderate stress bracket.

Currently inhaling a packet of Jammy dodgers, definitely going to be in the fat camp when this is over

DitheringDoris · 25/03/2020 16:07

Haven’t gained yet but will, I have a large stock of Easter eggs that I was going to give out at Easter, won’t be seeing anyone so my son and I are slowly working our way through them. Luckily my husband doesn’t like chocolate, all the more for me.

Rocketmam · 25/03/2020 16:07

I'm really starting to regret being a prepper...

Plenty of staple foods, so no fear if rationing for a while. But I also made sure we were well stocked on treats. This in combination with a tendency to stress eat and the gym being closed is not a good thing.

Why the fuck did I decide we needed a shelf of easter eggs!

Thedogshow · 25/03/2020 16:09

Yes nightmare- if we had Easter eggs I would definitely have tucked in 😂

I used to walk about 2.5 miles most days plus a high intensity exercise class a week, I'm eating the same but have only done the joe wicks pe work out once in 3 weeks. Fair to say I'm keeping away from the scales!

I wish I was someone who lost their appetite in times of stress, I just don't sleep ☹️

MrsSnitchnose · 25/03/2020 16:14

I'm going back to only eating in the evening again from today. All the stress over the last few weeks has made me eat everything I can get my hands on and I've put back on most of a stone. Lost 7 over the last 5 years and I don't want to slip too far

It stops now. I will not undo all my hard work!

velocitygirl7 · 25/03/2020 16:16

Don't worry op unless you've got half a cracker and an apple left, you'll be accused of stockpiling on here Grin Our cupboards are well stocked because we normally live that way, multiple food intolerances, so we often bulk buy when things are on offer etc

I'm less hungry as I normally do a very active job and walk to and from work etc
Lots of my friends are doing Joe Wicks, apparently he's really good. I'm avoiding him as he is the double of my brother in law and so I'm trying hard not to find him attractive like the rest of the country!!

Falacy · 25/03/2020 16:25

@DisorganisedOrganiser where are you? The shops around here are mostly back to normal. When there are subs it wasn't on the crisps and biscuits and snacks etc.

If you're in self-isolation why not go onto Amazon and buy some multipacks of crisps / chocolates/ sweets etc? I just got youngest DD a 50 pack of walkers prawn cocktail because she's already wolfed through the ones I bought.

tangeriney · 25/03/2020 16:45

Apparently I had no need to stockpile chocolate. I already had multipacks in bulk to last me until about 2022.
It's been a bit of a disaster for me staying in so much. I think I'm panic eating. I even wake up and watch the joe wicks thing whilst my dd is doing it, I'm sat on the sofa in the background scoffing my chocolate.

If they stop cloth shop deliveries I'll probably have to live in a bedsheet wrapped around my waist with my extended iPad cable or something. 🤔 definitely should rein in the snacks soon to avoid this.

rabbitsnose · 25/03/2020 16:46

I've decided that coronavirus is my diet and exercise chrysalis and I shall emerge from lockdown a beautiful butterfly.. I'll let you know how that goes Wink

caperplips · 25/03/2020 17:00

I am definitely gaining. We don't have a shortage of food here nor rationing. We always have a very well stocked fridge and kitchen as we live rurally - 20 mins to nearest village. DH is going out once a week to Aldi to get our groceries and that's it. We're both working from home now and I have most definitely been eating more ! And drinking FAR more wine in the evenings.

I've been baking - so far we've had banana bread, muesli flapjacks x 3 batches, chocolate chip cookies, gingernut bisuits and chocolate brownies. Thinking of making coffee and walnut cupcakes tomorrow.

Teen dd loves baking and it's also an activity for us - she is eating lots of the it, and being borderline underweight she can use it.

I've also made lots of soup for lunches - roast parsnip, minestrone and chicken noodle so far.

Due to having more time on our hands dinners are generally things that take longer to cook so we've had things like homemade meatballs, curry, roast chicken etc

I'm definitely gaining and need to get a handle on it !

RadioRodeo · 25/03/2020 17:00

I've lost a few pounds, being very mindful of food portions and not snacking as I want to ration my beloved crisps out! I want to postpone going to the shops as long as possible too really.

timeforawine · 25/03/2020 17:10

Probably gaining here too drive since i can't go to the gym. I am doing Joe Wicks PE but i can't hack that as much as i can 45 mins on the cross trainer. Really trying not to snack! Doing 16:8 is helpful though

Beautiful3 · 25/03/2020 17:12

I've lost weight because I'm rationing our food. I'm skipping breakfast/lunch to make sure the children have enough. Where are you getting all this spare food to snack on?! I've been to 3 different shops this morning trying to find food. I could only find sausages and pizza. We had the pizza today. Looks like sausages tomorrow!

monkeytennis97 · 25/03/2020 17:14

I've lost about 5lbs in a week I think..(am fat though). Rationing the food we have and can't eat due to anxiety are main reasons

Greenpop21 · 25/03/2020 17:40

As I’m off I’m waking later and not eating until 11/12 so only 2 meals per day. That helps as when I’m at work I’m eating at 7am, 12, 6.

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 25/03/2020 17:43

Me too :( In my normal office routine I only eat one meal a day and dont have breakfast / lunch. 3 meals with the rest of the family at the moment, and it's showing...

CatyaPurella · 25/03/2020 18:17

Not here...realised as I was putting kids dinner in the oven I had forgotten to eat lunch. No time to eat!

DisorganisedOrganiser · 25/03/2020 18:21

Beautiful3 sounds similar to where I am.

Falacy, I don’t want to say where I am but I’m in England in a small town. I’ve obviously not seen it for myself but according to friends, neighbours and local Facebook sites the shelves have very limited food. I hadn’t realised Amazon sell stuff like that and that would actually be amazing so thank you, I’ll look into that.
