Help worried about bleach spray on food

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 20:59

Hi I’m in a real state and don’t know what to do, the past couple of weeks I’ve been spraying any shopping with either dettol or domestos bleach spray, I’ve been spraying onto kitchen roll first then wiping over but I haven’t then rinsed them, my husband said his dinner earlier - carton of soup - smelt of bleach and he could taste it. I’m freaking out now, how dangerous is this? I stupidly thought it wouldn’t be able to pass through the packaging but my husband said the food definitely tastes of it.
Is this very harmful, I’m thinking to call 111.

@dontstockpilethelooroll you’re so kind, I sent you a pm this morning as I wasn’t going to bump the thread again, I know how I’ve annoyed people.

@SilverySurfer yes...I actually name changed for this thread and have seen bear behinds posts and not always agreed, however I do today. And with everyone else who called me out on this. I’ve been called some choice names by a couple of family members too who I told about this. So please know I have learned from this and am extremely angry at myself for getting in this situation last night.

If it makes you feel better, I had a mouthful of my tea with Raid on it and I didn't die.

makes note to remove food from vicinity when commiting first degree spider murder

CantCope8 · 25/03/2020 16:48

I just googled Raid as never heard of it!! Glad you’re ok, spider not so lucky I guess!

@CantCope8 Was nothing major. I spat it out when my mouth and lips started tingling and just rinsed with water. Spider was no more.

Honestly, I'm always doing something stupid, may well see me on the Darwin Awards some day 😂

Bearbehind · 25/03/2020 20:17

@CantCope8 I’m glad you’re OK now

It’s completely insane times right now

No one really knows how to cope

We’ve all just got to do our bit

Take care

CantCope8 · 25/03/2020 21:47

@MrsSnitchnose 😂 That cheered me up

@Bearbehind thank you, I’ve actually found your posts to me strangely comforting and appreciated them a lot. Take care as well ❤️

Also I have a question if anyone knows and it might help me not to get so worked up about the food items thing. I can’t find a definitive answer about how long COVID can last on different materials, plastic, cardboard, clothing etc. If anyone knows I’d be so grateful!

You are fine. Your DP is fine. The overwhelming majority will be fine.

Don't post about realising you were wasting MN and critical services time and then ask how long CV might live on surfaces.

That'll just be your next freak out

MrsMGE · 26/03/2020 00:37

OP there is lots of information online but the research is still developing. It really depends on the surface.

Why don't you stick to the advice given, use kitchen roll and soap or Dettol, not bleach. Wash your hands with soap before and after, and also before and after food prep and before meals. You will be fine.

I despair at the idea of bleaching food packaging, but here we are, you've already done it and learnt. You need to work on your anxiety though, it's overwhelmed you.
