Help worried about bleach spray on food

Hi I’m in a real state and don’t know what to do, the past couple of weeks I’ve been spraying any shopping with either dettol or domestos bleach spray, I’ve been spraying onto kitchen roll first then wiping over but I haven’t then rinsed them, my husband said his dinner earlier - carton of soup - smelt of bleach and he could taste it. I’m freaking out now, how dangerous is this? I stupidly thought it wouldn’t be able to pass through the packaging but my husband said the food definitely tastes of it.
Is this very harmful, I’m thinking to call 111.

www.livescience.com/coronavirus-food-risk.html

This makes a good read that should reassure a few of you.

Mysocalledlifexx · 24/03/2020 22:01

Stop using bleach ,fairy & water they say to use as it breaks down anything thats on there.
Try not to worry it will be fine just use fairy from now on.

Mysocalledlifexx · 24/03/2020 22:05

Dont use fairy to wash food just on packaging. I diddnt make that clear
Dart your link helped put my mind at ease as i do freak out when we take shopping

FreakStar · 24/03/2020 22:24

This thread is a wind up, surely. It would be impossible for someone to be this stupid, on all accounts!

playthestation · 24/03/2020 22:27

did call 111 and they are now getting a paramedic to call us back which has made me worry even more.

Angry

The NHS, 111, paramedics are dealing with a crisis for fucks sake. Apply some common sense.

Ansumpasty · 24/03/2020 22:33

My dad’s ex drank a bottle of bleach when they were teens after he broke up with her. She was hospitalised, obviously, but she didn’t die.

Drank. A. Bottle. Of . Bleach

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 22:36

We have to go to a&e ffs I can’t believe this.

MiggyMoggyMoo · 24/03/2020 22:38

Op, I hope you and your DH are ok

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 24/03/2020 22:40

No way would I be setting foot in a hospital right now unless it was life or death. Your dh will be fine. Bleach cannot Penetrate packaging!

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 22:46

This is the problem I don’t want to go to a hospital at all but she insisted and said because his tummy felt a bit weird he needs to go. Believe me I wish it wasn’t true

We have to go to a&e ffs I can’t believe this.

Neither can I....

QuimJongUn · 24/03/2020 22:51

Please don't go to a&e. Please.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 24/03/2020 22:54

I highly doubt you need to go to A&E.

playthestation · 24/03/2020 22:55

Let's recap..

You sprayed bleach on the OUTSIDE of a carton of soup and you are now going to A&fuckingE? In the middle of a global medical crisis?

I am stunned more than anyone else has ever managed to stun me, both on the internet and in real life.

ALittleBirdhouse · 24/03/2020 22:57

If you have presented this in a very dramatic and anxious way, they probably have no option but to recommend you go, since you will have triggered a response procedure of some sort. From what you have said, the actual risk is extremely low and you will be using up NHS time and resources. Have you not got a sensible RL friend that you can ring for reassurance instead?

SuckingDieselFella · 24/03/2020 22:59

Is this a joke?

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 23:01

@playthestation no it’s on the outside of several products over the space of a week and trust me I wanted so badly for her to just say it’s fine stay home.

FlabberMcBlasted · 24/03/2020 23:02

Um...I can’t actually believe this is happening. Now is not the time.

QuimJongUn · 24/03/2020 23:03

OP as you're still posting I assume you haven't gone to a&e? Good.

I promise, he'll be fine.

BikeRunSki · 24/03/2020 23:04

OP, I once accidentally drank half a pint of Milton. I was fine. It burnt a bit on the way down, but I was fine.

(I’d stupidly made it up in a pint glass, and later thought it was water).

SuckingDieselFella · 24/03/2020 23:07

How did you manage to get through to 111?

I thought they were too busy to answer at the moment.

GrumpyHoonMain · 24/03/2020 23:07

Don’t use bleach spray. You can just use a bit of dishwashing liquid on a kitchen wipe.

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 23:10

I called them not long after first posting and updated while on hold. I’m sorry if I’ve annoyed people 😞 we’ve decided not to go and to see how we are in the morning now. I’m just shocked at my own stupidity tbh, this virus has messed with my mind in a way nothing ever has before.

OP posts:
whiplashy · 24/03/2020 23:11

Don’t go to A&E OP, don’t waste their time!!

CantCope8 · 24/03/2020 23:13

I don’t want to, I feel sick at the thought that I wasted their time with the phone call. Thanks for replies and reassurance - I had no idea that you could purify water with bleach.
