Lighthearted.

Just made me laugh that it's out of stock everywhere. Even Amazon has run out.

More precious than toilet roll!

I'm looking forward to seeing tv presenters change. They're already doing their own make-up but their hair is going to get interesting. I always have a box of hair dye in but am going to see how far I can go before deciding what to do.

My dd has her hair coloured by a mobile hairdresser every few months and was due to have it done today. I use to study hairdressing at college and know how to properly tint hair. Got a colour which was nearly the same and done her roots and came out perfect Grin

I'm looking forward to seeing tv presenters change doesn't Holly Willoughby advertise blonde dye?

browzingss · 26/03/2020 00:21

I reckon tv presenters and celebrities will still get their hair done! Their salons/stylists will probably make a special exception for them

earsup · 26/03/2020 00:24

I got peroxide and 4 tubes of my ash blonde shade a few months ago so have plenty and can last over a year with that amount...!

disneydatknee · 26/03/2020 00:31

I bought a box of hair dye about 2 weeks before lockdown and dont intend to use it until we get the all clear! Husband knows my natural hair colour and couldn't give a shit.

HeIenaDove · 26/03/2020 00:45

@browzingss i said exactly the same thing to a supermarket worker on Tuesday and she agreed with me.

And i bet the same goes for the Royals too.

HeIenaDove · 26/03/2020 00:49

DH isnt bothered either way

At 70 he still has quite a lot of dark hair

1300cakes · 26/03/2020 00:52

I've had a box of bright red colour I bought last year but didn't have the courage to try yet. Well I guess nows the time!

MrsMGE · 26/03/2020 00:59

I watched an interview with a celebrity haidresser and he said box dyes are the same as pro dyes. I agree with that. The difference is in not being able to do highlights or lowlights, that's my pain.

I guess some people might pick the wrong colour or not follow instructions correctly, but then with a bit of research it's doable.
Years ago I used to do full head colour using a box dye easily, will just have to go back to this for now.

I don't really get all those "don't use a box dye" posts from haidressers, what exactly are people supposed to do if we keep going like this for 3 months, 6 or till the end of the year? Not to mention all appointments will be taken for the foreseeable when they reopen.

Because you'll realise it's fairly easy to do at home and won't need the hairdresser?

MrsMGE · 27/03/2020 08:46

Edith, do they really think that (apart from more sophisticated colouring & cuts) we're all thick and don't know this? 😂

Yes, I wondered why they were against box dyes too.

And cutting your own fringe.

My hairdresser (small local salon, also a barbers) used to charge £45 for roots and a trim and I would go every 8 weeks religiously. Then they got greedy (decided on a whim to refurb the salon and upped their prices to pay for it) so I stopped going.

I have a medium length bob with fringe and a few layers. My plan is to grow my style longer, cut my fringe if absolutely necessary (if, when I grow the fring out, it doesn't suit me) and use half a box dye every 8-10 weeks to disguise my grey parting.

May even attempt the Mumsnet haircut if I can get my hair a bit longer. Smile

HeIenaDove · 27/03/2020 17:28

Its fairly easy to do at home if you dont have thick hair with many many layers.

MrsMGE · 27/03/2020 17:38

I have really thick & layered hair and yes, it's challenging but with several boxes you can do it 👌

I'll give colouring a go but no way will anyone apart from a trained hairdresser be cutting my hair! I've no idea if I have the right colour but I can put a darker one over the top but there's no way I can disguise the damage if I cut it!

soupforbrains · 27/03/2020 21:02

I stopped dying my hair a couple of months ago and decided I was going to embrace my natural colour.

Except now the regrowth is coming through I have discovered that my natural colour is greying.

In desperation I just used a henna wash in hair dye thing I found in a cupboard. It’s about 10 years old I think... it didn’t have a use by date and I figured if it all went wrong then well, I’m not going anywhere for a while.

Anyway i don’t think I used enough so it didn’t have a dramatic affect but i think it dampened the grey... I’ll go back in with another attempt in a couple of days.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/03/2020 21:53

I embraced the grey years ago, but my bob does need cutting every 5 weeks to look decent.
Obviously that's not going to happen so once it gets a bit shapeless I'm going to dye the ends bright pink or purple.

MysticWytche · 27/03/2020 22:11

I've been box dyeing and cutting my own hair for years. It's fine.
However, I recently decided to go platinum blonde (which was a whole other saga after years of dyeing)
Now I'm left with just enough bleach and developer to do my roots once and 3/4 of a bottle of purple shampoo to tone it and I can't find any more online anywhere (not going out for that)
I was surprised by the sudden dearth of hair colourants available. Oh well, should be interesting.

Francina670 · 27/03/2020 22:21

My hairdresser gave me the details of the colour she uses and have ordered on amazon. L’Oréal Majirel which is a professional brand. There are instructions online about how to mix it. Haven’t tried it yet mind but if it works could save me a fortune.

Writersblock2 · 27/03/2020 23:58

I’m naturally dark and I’ve been platinum for the last couple of months. My roots are horrendous and I can’t find what I want anywhere (noob, so was thinking the Bleach London kit). I’m going to look so bad after this!

soupforbrains · 28/03/2020 01:44

I have just ended a mass group chat and not only did nobody comment negatively on my hair but i actually recieved positive comments so am feeling pretty good about my hair.

hair cut wise i can understand people being more cautious on this than for dye. i however am sort of lucky in that i am awful at gettin my ar cut as it's a phobis of mine. so mine often over grows and honestly beyond a certain point nobody gives a shit and so long as you're not attempting certain do's then it doesn't matter.
