I've always been a bit like this. If someone buys me a gift I save it, for a special occasion or for best.

I notice last night I'm now doing it with everything. We had spag bol last night, there was me do we really need cheese? Best not bother with garlic bread.

Biscuits, no don't eat those, save them.....

That's the last packet of something, save it.

Strange feeling. I suppose I am almost meal planning based around what we have most of and saving anything else in case I have an emergency requiring cheese and or garlic bread.

Light hearted. Slowly going mad.....

Another daft sod here!! Freezer is full to bursting as separated everything up into portions and meals. Cupboard is usually fairly stocked with packets and tins, even more so now... but I keep thinking that if I eat any of my stash, I’ll never be able to replace it... so I’ve been eating toast ...a lot🤭
The dog is eating better than me!

Why are we like this??🤷‍♀️ I guess it’s cos we’ve never faced anything like it ever, so we don’t truly know what to do for the best?
I got given a load of eggs unexpectedly last week... they go nicely with toast...🙄

"My pharmacy has ‘closed for safety’ and it’s where my prescription automatically goes. I currently can’t get blood testing stuff but if I’m not eating or driving I don’t need as much. I mean I have some - my worry is when it goes, that’s it."

Although your pharmacy shop might be closed it may well be that there is work going on behind the scenes and that prescriptions are being prepared for example for delivery. Check the website for your doctor or pharmacy/try to email and phone them. I'm sure they will be putting into place plans to get out essential medication even if their shop front is not open.

Yes my husband and are doing this, trying to eat as little as possible in case it's difficult to get supplies (and also because we want to go out as little as possible to get food).

Today's lunch - boiled eggs with no bread or toast
Today's breakfast - nothing
(Kids eating normally though)

Now I've read this thread I'm going to clamp down on kids' snacking!

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:41

Yes, reduced the amount of loo roll I am using.

Made a packet of choc biscuits last for three days!!!

I have some chocolate areo, but can only eat this if we have a country wide emergency

Squirrelfan · 24/03/2020 15:41

I'm SI in the bedroom (cough and fever - now gone, but taking the advice) whilst my family is ordering pizza and letting veg die a death in the drawer. I had a fit when I heard that DC had opened the salami with a very long shelf life that I'd thought would be a lovely treat when we wanted something nice in oh, say, April. V v frustrated.

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:42

Boiled eggs with no bread or toast- oh blimey!

Solomangrundy · 24/03/2020 15:43

@Connie222

Post of the day!!🤣🤣🤣

I love the fact that even as we descend into some sort of world-wise chaos, Mums are still guarding the household food stocks with a vice-like grip (but have had the forsight to stash the wine, chocolate and biscuits😁)

Connie222 · 24/03/2020 15:44

I have some chocolate areo, but can only eat this if we have a country wide emergency

I got a box of chocolates for my birthday which will remain sealed. Dh is joking that they will end up passed down to the grandchildren. I don’t think he’s far wrong.

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:46

@connie222
what kind of chocs?

EstuaryBird · 24/03/2020 15:47

I wouldn’t say I’m hoarding exactly.....but this morning I had one slice of toast for breakfast then DH got up and had 4rashers of bacon, 2 eggs and 3 slices of toast. He’s sitting there now shoving pistachios in his face and munching away on them. We’re hoping to get an Asda delivery next Monday and he’s eating everything we’ve got Angry

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:48

@estuarybird

You'll have the dig on the patio on your own now, although one other can help with the body
would that count as exercise?

Connie222 · 24/03/2020 15:49

@caz114 Thorntons selection. I’m like Gollum giving the box a stroke every few days.

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:49

shoud be dig a hole on your own

Pineappletree33 · 24/03/2020 15:49

Yes!
Dd not quite 2 wanted more cheese on her meatballs last night. I grated a bit and let her eat it before grating more. Don’t want to waste a drop.

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:50

mmmn thorntons!!!

JorisBonson · 24/03/2020 15:50

YES. I have all the stuff for spag bol but daren't touch the spag lest I need it 😂

FuckOffCorona · 24/03/2020 15:54

I’m the opposite. I’ve decided that if ever the rainy day I’ve been saving all the nice toiletries and food treats and scented candles for is going to happen, it’s right now. What am I waiting for if not this?

Allthepinkunicorns · 24/03/2020 15:55

We are trying to not be wasteful and only cook what we actually use not over portion things. I do not want to leave the house for food for at least two weeks and we could manage this if we ration a few things.

caz114 · 24/03/2020 15:55

I'm saving the candles in case the lights go out!

caperplips · 24/03/2020 15:56

I sort of get this as I'm being very mindful of using everything up and not wasting anything at all if we can help it.

But we ARE eating really well and now that I'm working from home full time rather than out of the house from 8am - 6.30pm 5 days a week I am making nicer things that take longer to cook.

I'm not in UK and even though we have the same measures in place as the UK has now, we have not really had food shortages in supermarkets so I'm happy to cook /eat well while we can.

That may change down the line and we'll adjust our eating at that stage in line with what we can get.

I think eating well, with good home cooked / home baked foods is essential to see us through these stressful times.

northernstars · 24/03/2020 16:00

Totally agree. I've been working through several veggie/vegan books and using veg:beans etc. Am really enjoying it. It isn't as much of a chore when you've time to burn.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 24/03/2020 16:00

I've stashed 6 hot cross buns in the freezer just in case...

northernstars · 24/03/2020 16:01

Although I am working through stash of chocolate- knew it was a bad idea buying more in.

CakeAndGin · 24/03/2020 16:01

Sort of. It’s a battle between stress eating and wanting to make sure I’ve got something nice in for if things get worse.

I’ve got some halloumi in the fridge, which I’m desperate to eat. It’s calling to me, telling me that it’ll make me feel better if I eat it. It says that it’s a vaccine to coronavirus. But I just think - what if there’s no halloumi on our next shop, wouldn’t I rather save it for either when the shit really hits the fan or when we have a celebration? We will have been together for 10 years in a few weeks - we were having a fuck-it, big holiday (all inclusive, adults only, 5* in the Caribbean) a few weeks after and a nice meal on the day. Now my plans for the celebration are focussing on a bottle of champagne that we got at Christmas and the halloumi. But still that bastard halloumi is calling to me.

Donkeytail · 24/03/2020 16:02

Do you not think that it is important to eat well and look after your health when there is a global pandemic? Surely you want your bodies to be fit enough to fight off the virus?
We've been doing one shop a week since the schools closed and just eating like normal, it just seems like a weird to time to start starving your body of nutrients. Someone said their kids were grateful because they got fruit for the first time in a week, someone else skipping breakfast and just having boiled eggs for lunch, why if you still have the money to buy food?
