Anyone else not able to see their partner?

I know this is minimal in the grand scheme of things, and I know other people are having a much, much worse time but anyone else not live with their partner and so are now unable to see them for a minimum of 3 weeks?

It's a horrible situation and of course we will do what is right staying the f at home but god it's rubbish!

Stay safe everyone

I think the risk to mental health from this measure vastly outweighs the risk to physical health. Not to mention the time and resources used to enforce it.

Fortunately the regulations where I am specifically state people can see partners even if they don’t live with them. I really, really feel for those people who can’t do that.

HarrietOh · 03/04/2020 06:41

I think that’s the worst, not knowing WHEN I’ll see him again. We’re both so low risk, both live alone and WFH. We couldn’t temporarily move in because of our pets who wouldn’t get along. But I’m playing by the rules.

StrawberryFizz26 · 03/04/2020 07:34

Thanks booboo24 we'll try that tonight
I need my gogglebox fix!!

Hattietoh Same here, I couldn't leave or take the cats with me, DPs house is much smaller than mine & he's got his son to think of it.
We were in the process of decorating his house to take new pics & hopefully sell it so we can move in together but that's not going to happen for a while.

I hope everyone has a nice day!! Stay safe

StrawberryFizz26 · 03/04/2020 07:36

harrietoh
Bloody auto correct

JenaWren · 04/04/2020 12:53

A couple more ideas of stuff to share when you can't be together...

We did a lovely yoga season together using YouTube (Yoga with Adriene) and FaceTime. Added bonus of a bit of flirting over some of the moves!

Everyman Cinema has a free showing of Cinema Paradiso tonight at 8.30 on YouTube and AppleTV. We're going to crack open a bottle of red and settle in to watch.

@Badhairday101 my other half is much more musical than me. He's learning the guitar and I've agreed to learn the words to Take me home country roads. Stand by - we could go viral Wink

JenaWren · 04/04/2020 13:33

Oops - looks like you have to rent Cinema Paradiso so not free. As you were.

Badhairday101 · 04/04/2020 18:30

JenaWren that is what we’re learning too. It’s been good to practice together on FaceTime. Haha that’s sounds like an amazing guitar/vocal combo, enjoy!

I love yoga (and Adriene) but he doesn’t so that ones off the cards for us. It’s been great having extra time to do it each day, I’ve been using boho beautiful you tube videos while I can’t go to a class, they are really good too.

I do feel like I’m getting used to the situation now, missing him but just focusing on all of the fun things we’ll do when this is over. Trying to focus on the positives too (more yoga, more sleep, less spending, more time with my kids, actually getting started on my dissertation) and just taking one day at a time. Can not wait to see him again though!!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Cecilia2016 · 04/04/2020 18:44

Me too! My husband left uk for work abroad back in January and was supposed to return this week but his flight was cancelled and we don’t even know when he will be returning back home. I’m stuck here with 4 children who are keeping me busy.

JenaWren · 04/04/2020 19:11

Oh wow @Badhairday101 great minds and all that. All tips gratefully received.

Maybe we should get a virtual Mumsnet
Band together Wink

ednatheevilwitch · 04/04/2020 20:05

@badhairday........are you me?? I am also in desperate need of writing a dissertation.........

Badhairday101 · 04/04/2020 21:13

JenaWren I will start practicing my chord changes now so it actually sounds like I’m playing some kind of tune 🤣.

ednatheevilwitch it’s awful isn’t it, there isn’t a cat in hells chance I would have any chance of doing it without lockdown. I have zero discipline 😂. At least we are in now and not missing anything by doing some.

Badhairday101 · 04/04/2020 21:17

ednatheevilwitch are you feeling any better as the weeks go on?

Cecilia2016 That sounds really hard! I’ve heard of lots of people stuck in different countries and can’t imagine how difficult that must be.

ednatheevilwitch · 04/04/2020 21:33

@badhairday - I am feeling a bit better. I was feeling so low missing my bf that I was getting really worried about my mental health. Was starting to think the risks to my health would have to be ignored for my sanity and just get bf to come here. We have both seen no-one apart from click and collect staff for the last 2 weeks. But I'm now pulling out the other side and getting used to it......
What is your dissertation on?

heidihigh · 04/04/2020 21:45

Some really great ideas on here for things to do together while apart! Just imagining my bf attempting yoga though which has cheered me up, not sure he'd be up for it Grin

Hope everyone is doing okGrin

@ednatheevilwitch I’m a teacher and it’s a Masters in SEND Advanced Educational Practice. I wish I could tell you more but just trying to come up with some research that isn’t face to face.
What’s yours on?

Think I’ve finally figured out how to tag people!

Badhairday101 · 04/04/2020 21:59

@ednatheevilwitch glad you are feeling a bit better and coming out the other side. It’s a really surreal situation, if somebody had told me at new year where this year was heading I would have thought they were crazy.

Roobear23 · 04/04/2020 22:30

I've just found this thread. Sorry to hear from others in this situation but it is also strangely comforting.
I was at the early stages of getting to know someone when lockdown began so it's really weird because we don't know each other that well yet but luckily have had some lovely days together (prior covid, obvs!) And have been managing to keep things reasonably interesting over WhatsApp!
Love all the ideas on here.
I did suggest to him that we write to each other, just as a different medium and he's willing to give it a go so will send something off on Monday.
Hope everyone is doing ok xx

diege · 04/04/2020 23:17

Evening everyone! Hope people are ok?- have been very up and down today, though looking forward to my 11.30 WhatsApp video call Wink
I'm a uni lecturer and lead the final year and masters dissertations. I'm marking my students' dissertations now so do feel the pain of those having to get them written! 😂

Mascotte · 04/04/2020 23:18

I’ve been a bit better but now scared it’s going to go on for ages... I’m trying my best but ropey mentally

IronNeonClasp · 05/04/2020 02:39

We FaceTime'd tonight. He had dressed up as a Mexican hilarious and a surprise. No ideas how to dress up back sometime next week...

Are there any 'online' games to play with him without them costing a fortune? Monopoly is £3.99 but reviews say glitchy..

Bool · 05/04/2020 03:49

Yes. Just got married before lockdown. He lives abroad to be near his teenage children who are there and we usually travel every week between the two. But he got Covid very badly in his home country so I am just happy to see him again at all so don’t worry about when.

StrawberryFizz26 · 05/04/2020 08:42

iron words with friends is a good game.
We've found an app called twoseven that lets us watch programmes together, we used it on Friday with our laptop & phone and it worked really well.

I had a really lazy day yesterday, we did facetime but today I'm gonna be really productive, clean the house & carry on painting the fences then we're going to have a date night.

Hope everyone has a good day

Badhairday101 · 05/04/2020 18:08

@diege I don’t envy you the marking job with such big word counts. At least it will pass time 😂.

@IronNeonClasp I’ve been playing charades and guess the drawing on Houseparty App. I’ve found them fun but probably not for everyone, might be worth a try as it’s free though.

Hope everyone is doing ok today and managing to keep positive.

crazycatgal · 05/04/2020 18:10

Me! We were supposed to be moving into our new build home last month but it was delayed until May and now who knows when it will be ready. I'm also missing our dog as well (lives with him.)

diege · 05/04/2020 20:35

I'm liking the sound of all of these apps/games!

Badhairday101 yes dissertation marking a distraction but gets dull even with the most riveting of topics!

Just wondering how much virtual contact everyone has with their partners? We chat first thing, then around lunch, teatime, then a late night one (11ish though getting later with my wandering, sleepless teens Angry).
