Is that mother nature is teaching us all a valuable lesson here.

After years of abusing our earth, our environment, the way we have become consumer mad, children playing on gadgets rather than socializing with friends, how we could be sitting next to loved ones whilst continuously on our phones etc. Its almost like some greater being is saying " here you go, this is what you wanted, now you can only use technology to contact loved ones, no socialising, no physical contact, no consumerism, no waste, play xbox and watch Netflix until your hearts content..."

And now that freedom has been taken from us, we crave the simple things so badly. It's like we are resetting our lives and thought processes.

For what it's worth I'm neither religious or a conspirasit. But I cant help but wonder now.

I know lives are being lost and I dont wish to down play that. But I hope I'm making sense here. It feels like its happening for a greater reason.

I get you OP. All the environmental damage, the extreme politics and so on. This will provide proof that our lifestyles are damaging the environment. This could save the world for our children. Small comfort at the moment, but it does feel like there's something bigger behind this. It is still desperately sad though.

The sky was bluer than I’d ever seen it in England today.

Not a single contrail, and it was beautiful.

SomethingOnce · 24/03/2020 02:02

We could’ve done it the easy way; we’re doing it the hard way.

OregansHairStreak · 24/03/2020 02:04

The earth is not a sentient being. There’s always been viruses. This just happens to be happening to us now.

DustyMaiden · 24/03/2020 02:05

Mother Nature is not a sentient being.

Happymind · 24/03/2020 02:11

Maybe I'm not using the correct terminologies, but the sentiment is still the same... it feels like its happening for a greater reason. And like a pp said, it gives a small bit of comfort to think it might make way for a better future for our children's children.

I get you! Mother nature is showing us who's boss.. and it's not us.

Sparkles9768 · 24/03/2020 02:33

if we find a vaccine then everything will go back to the usual killing Mother Earth.
I looked up at the sky yesterday and marveled at a passing plane. I thought Wow, I wonder where that's going. The hoards of passing planes before really were disgusting. We can live without Mexico vacations. My homeland is very far from where I live and it makes me sad to think I may not go back for a long time, but sacrifices must be made. It's better that we don't have a choice, humans are not good to the environment.

puds11 · 24/03/2020 02:55

Isn’t the science that post virus lock down emissions etc will be even higher whilst things get back on track, people can do want they want again etc? So probably only a slight respite for MN until she takes a more severe hammering.

MarieFromStTropez · 24/03/2020 02:57

It's come from eating animals, like most of these awful viruses. If we take anything from this, it should be that the time has come to put a stop to animal agriculture.

ArriettyJones · 24/03/2020 03:01

If “Mother Earth” disapproves of children overusing tech, she has cooked up a strange plan to wean them off it Grin It’ll be tablets and x-boxes agogo for months.

COVID is not a plan, or revenge, or a”lesson” from some entity. It’s just nature. It’s cyclical. Things like this happen at least once a century. We just have to hunker down and do our best.

zaffa · 24/03/2020 03:02

I get you. Look how this crossed fo humans - how we kept animals in inhumane and unhygienic conditions. Look at what we allowed to world around us to become while we sat on our phones and bought all the rubbish and tat our heart desired - only now can we see the effect of a me first attitude because we all have to beat this together or none of us beat it. We can't outrun it or spend copious amounts of money hiding - look how many rich, famous people are admitting to being sick. We have to look after the poor and the weak because we need to eradicate it from everyone to survive.

I know I've already started to make real changes - I really hope that once this is all over we still have this clarity and remember what's truly important.

PinkandOrange · 24/03/2020 03:03

The fact that you are thinking this tells us more about people’s desire to tell stories, to make sense of that world, than it does about Mother Nature.

Shinesweetfreedom · 24/03/2020 03:21

Yup I think it is because of the appalling way the Chinese are with animals, even eating cats and dogs.
Nature is getting its own back

Gingerkittykat · 24/03/2020 03:23

I agree it is nature sending us a great big wake up call.

Monty27 · 24/03/2020 03:27

It's a freak of nature. Like tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.
Maybe people will begin to respect the world back. When this is all over.
Remember the planet? 👍

Frouby · 24/03/2020 03:36

I agree OP.

I am looking forward to when this is over to things being more simple and taking pleasure from simple things again.

user1471447924 · 24/03/2020 03:43

Give people long enough once things calm down somewhat and they’ll go back to exactly how they were before. Human nature never really changes.

GatoradeMeBitch · 24/03/2020 03:45

Yup I think it is because of the appalling way the Chinese are with animals, even eating cats and dogs.

Well that's a whole discussion in itself. Arguably a lesson is that we should not eat any animals or drink their milk - we've had diseases from animals and animal products start here too.

Felicitycity · 24/03/2020 04:14

Three months of corona virus has done as much for the environment as ten Greta Thunbergs could have done in a year.

RoseLalique · 24/03/2020 04:19

I’ve been wondering this too. If Mother Nature is not a sentient being it is at least an evolutionary survival thing. I’ve been thinking a lot for some time about the humans psyche needing a wake up call and a reset back to simpler lives and deeper values but will it last when this is over?

JayAlfredPrufrock · 24/03/2020 04:19

The Revenge of the Pangolins.

Oh the delicious irony.

RoseLalique · 24/03/2020 04:20

Sorry - the human psyche (singular)

Beautiful3 · 24/03/2020 04:22

The earth us over populated. This virus is simply the earths way of culling us. Agreed that the sky looks blue, and air smells clean. I think that when this temporary lockdown is over there should be a permanent sunday shutdown, to let mother nature clesnse and recover.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 24/03/2020 04:52

I'm sorry but that's nonsense. Mother Nature is not "teaching" us anything. This IS nature. Disease is part of life and death and the cycle of the world. We might choose to learn lessons if we are that way inclined. But once this is over I guarantee the world will return to its previous ways.
