Can I drive 5 miles to walk in the woods?

Just that really. We’ve been isolating for over a week and these woods are the only thing that kept us sane. Isolated woods - not many people there. Those we came across were mindful of distance.

With the current lockdown rules, are we allowed to drive there?

...Also there will probably be police road blocks to stop non essential car journeys

I would, I don't think Mumsnet is an authority

We're allowed to have one walk a day.

You no your local area better than MNers. I will be going to the least populated area. If we have to drive a small distance and are allowed to we will. If it’s busy we’ll come back. Pretty much like we will go to our local supermarket. Like many we won’t be able to necessarily always use our nearest facility. A bit of common sense is needed not drama.

@R2221 Hope you get fined.

Def not private woodlands. It’s at the end of a huge national park. Not a very touristy place as there is nothing else there. Only people from the neighbouring towns go there I think.

No it's no non essential travel. You cannot do it.

I walk my dog in isolation every day,I cannot walk him on inhabited streets,he is a nightmare.

I drive to get there, only about 3minutes away as I live in a small village,I will continue to do so.In the 6 years I have walked him there I have never seen another human, all I see is wildlife.

Boris meant a walk round the block once a day.

Just watch this space. In three days they will have removed the ability to exercise. Because every person thinks they are special and feels the need to interpret the rules in such s way as to allow them to do what they want. We are in lockdown. Stay at bloody home. Let your kids do an online exercise class or run Laps around the garden if they have one.

PicsInRed · 23/03/2020 22:25

No, it's not your local area.
You may exercise at your own home and in your own area. Not a drive away. The whole point is to stop the spread, not give it a lift across town.

You see this is why we are now in lockdown the minority not thinking the rules apply to them. By all means go but if you are stopped by the police don’t moan about it tomorrow on mn.

Surely ‘non essential travel’ means ‘don’t go on holiday’. Not driving a few mins in the car to get to a MORE isolated place to take your daily exercise. Why can’t people ever apply some common sense?

Report
Jffpanda · 23/03/2020 22:26

Please don't. This is an unnecessary journey. Can you guarantee you won't need to stop for final? Can you guarantee your car won't break down? Can you guarantee your kids won't get over excited if you see someone you know and break the 2m rule? Just stay at home.

Fuel obvs. Not final.

Would driving to Snowdon and having a steep walk be ok? No?

Then no.

R2221 · 23/03/2020 22:27

@widdioisright exactly! The woods are a lot more isolated than where I live. We live in a densely populated part of the town.

I’m certain he meant the area you live in and not that long

Once again, stupid people will take the piss and the lockdown will go in longer

What about if I own the woods?
