No you don’t! Unless they sell emergency vehicles they’re not essential, surely?

HermanHermit · 23/03/2020 21:34

Do they do MOTs?! mine is booked for wednesday morning ARGH

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/03/2020 21:35

No, you really don’t. My local council has a web form for reporting companies not following the restrictions or profiteering - have a look and see if your council has a similar thing.

Which brand do they represent BTW?

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2020 21:35

Dhs want everyone in to lockdown. Fuckers.

If your not allowed to go to work unless your essential how can you go into work.

shutupsteph · 23/03/2020 21:36

Employers will be receiving guidance as to what is essential, I can't see your bosses arguing their case that buying cars is an essential service right now! You should refuse to go in, I think Bo Jo trumps your bosses

Mammatino · 23/03/2020 21:38

Who the fuck is buying a car? Seriously? You are right to be appalled, definately have a look on local council reporting sites. The more places like this that stay open the more excuse the idiots will have for not complying.

RickSanchez · 23/03/2020 21:40

What's the point in being open when 'going out to buy a car' is not what anyone can possibly deem as essential. Surely you're all going to be sat there twiddling your thumbs anyway?

Ipadipod · 23/03/2020 21:50

SeasonallySnowyPeasant it’s an independent- we sell bloody rolls Royce’s , Maseratis !

Report anonymously to the police and the newspapers. They will soon shut.

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 21:54

My dh is a car salesman and his work is shutting. The garage side is staying open I think as cars will need fixing but it's on skeleton staff. I can't see it been classed as essential.
He is going in in the morning to wrap a few things up with regard to car delivery etc but he is a manager so that's why. Hes not had a customer since thursday anyway.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2020 21:59

Dhs dealership is still having customers, all of them the age group who are meant to be staying in.

Dh has started asking them if they really ought to be out right now.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/03/2020 22:02

A Rolls Royce and Maserati dealership Hmm FFS. Stay at home. What are they going to do?

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 22:03

My dhs work have been offering home test drives since last weekend so he has had a couple of those, he has also had the usual handovers etc. I will be glad to have him at home tbh, most of his customers are elderly and I hate the idea of spreading the virus to them.
I honestly don't understand why people would think buying a car is essential right now and it pays my bills haha

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/03/2020 22:07

All shops must shut unless they are essential, I.e. supermarkets and pharmacies. They must close.

Ipadipod · 23/03/2020 22:11

SeasonallySnowyPeasant apparently it’s business as usual

You're not based in the new forest are you?

Ginnymweasley · 23/03/2020 22:14

It really isnt though. As soon as the broadcast happened tonight my husband phone was going off with messages from the owner. They are not allowed to stay open. At least sales departments aren't, I'm not sure about service departments. Who the fuck is buying a Rolls Royce atm anyway.

Ipadipod · 23/03/2020 22:16

TwoHoots74 no

They are not allowed to stay open OP - whoever has told you to still come into work is wrong.

Ipadipod · 23/03/2020 22:19

The message came from the top.

Are they attached to an mot station? Perhaps they are using that as a loophole. “Yeah we sell cars but we are also here to keep our nhs workers cars repaired to keep them working” kind of thing.
(Although we all know that nhs workers can’t afford to get repairs in such an expensive place. I dread to think their hourly rate for repairs.....)

MotherOfFrenchies · 23/03/2020 22:54

My man is a workshop controller in a car dealership and they are staying open (but not to customers coming in) until the end of the week he’s been told. I don’t know about the sales side of the dealership, but the service department still have customers cars they are working on and need to get them back and invoices completed etc. They also need to complete work on sales vehicles like PDIs for cars being handed over this week. I think it’s a joke and absolutely non essential! I work part time in a supermarket so I see that as essential work, but his type of industry not so much.

Likethebattle · 23/03/2020 22:59

@mamatino we put down a deposit last week as our car died. We need a car to actually get to shops as where we live there is no public transport and we can’t get a delivery slot. It’s meant to be ready tomorrow’s. That’s who is buying cars!!!!

Wingedharpy · 23/03/2020 23:09

Update in my emails at 22.45
Car showrooms on the premises which must close OP.
Will link when I can figure out how to do it!
