Seriously, just found out we have to carry on as usual- I am so angry.

Nope!
Someone else who is clever will be along shortly......

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2020 23:17

We ordered a new car over a month ago. An environmentally friendly hybrid to replace our ageing diesel. We were due to pick it up on Thursday or Friday. If we can't get it then at some point our old car will probably need work to keep it driveable. (Nearest local shop 3km each way, supermarket 5 miles, pharmacy 6 miles...)

Getting the old car fixed would be more contact than picking up the new one. DH had already worked out with the sales guy how to do it.

No idea what happens now.

Ipadipod · 24/03/2020 03:12

Thank you

If you self-isolated would you be paid? It's all very well people saying don't go in, but would you immediately lose your income (it depends on what basis you work for them. Employed, contract, zero hours etc?

Ginnymweasley · 24/03/2020 06:14

The pay is irrelevant as the business has to shut as it's not classed as essential.

Itsjustmee · 24/03/2020 06:16

ErrolTheDragon
We are in a similar position
Have a new lease car arriving on 3rd April. Haven’t paid anything yet as payments not due till May
Old car being collected same day
So insurance is already set up to cover both cars for one day then switch to new car
But I wonder if either car will be collected or delivered

Casino218 · 24/03/2020 06:31

They need reporting op. Phone police and stay away from them.

LoudBatPerson · 24/03/2020 06:37

Car showrooms are specifically mentioned in the list of what must shut.

Apolloanddaphne · 24/03/2020 06:46

They need to close. If they don't they are committing an offence. I hope you have emailed that list to your boss.

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2020 06:55

Why are people so confused, I can’t get my head round it.

Did he state that car dealerships had to close. No he did not.

Did he state only key workers can go to work. No he did not.

Did he state you can only go to work if your job is considered essential. No he did not.

Did he state all businesses to close other than those essential to life. No he did not.

He stated you can go to work if your job cannot be done from home.

As such, the dealership is correct. They can stay open. End of.

mistermagpie · 24/03/2020 07:01

Blunt but car showrooms are specifically listed as a type of business which must close. BJ wasn't going to sit and lost them all on tv was he? There are actual lists online. Maybe you should read one.

LoudBatPerson · 24/03/2020 07:03

@bluntness100

Car showrooms are specifically on the list of places that must shut. No Boris didn't say it, but he didn't read the whole document out ffs.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/further-businesses-and-premises-to-close

FairyBunnyAgain · 24/03/2020 07:03

@bluntness100
Read the link above it says clearly that car showrooms close in the list

Undecided91 · 24/03/2020 07:03

Never mind car dealerships - my employer - car auction is open as well!!!! Some people are right greedy and crazy

LoudBatPerson · 24/03/2020 07:07

@undecided91

Show your employer the list. Auctions are listed too.

ThePawtriarchy · 24/03/2020 07:07

Hmm, in a town beginning with S, by any chance?

Jocasta2018 · 24/03/2020 07:08

Does it have a section that MOTs & services cars as actual garages are an exemption from closing.
Certainly I get my 2016 Toyota hybrid serviced/MOT/tinkered about by the dealership I bought it from as it has a workshop attached. There's a 5 year Toyota warranty on my car and I only want the dealership to work on it until the warranty runs out in 2021.

Passthedyson · 24/03/2020 07:09

@Bluntness100 you are wrong

Ipadipod · 24/03/2020 07:16

We don’t carry out routine MOT’s or services - we aren’t a garage just a dealership.

OP posts:
Ipadipod · 24/03/2020 07:17

I’m sure they have taken legal advice

OP posts:
GCAcademic · 24/03/2020 07:20

Er, no. They are on the list of businesses that must close. End of.

Ipadipod · 24/03/2020 07:23

We have a work shop that repairs cars still under our warranty- is there anything said about that ?

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 24/03/2020 07:25

Car dealerships can stay open if they have an mot or servicing facility. I am not wrong, it is the retail element that needs to shut down. The show room.

myrtleWilson · 24/03/2020 07:25

Bluntness can you read the guidance before spouting off on threads. I've seen you do this previously on employment threads - bullishly asserting a falsehood and you've been pulled up by experts but never come back to hold your hands up and say, sorry folks I was wrong.
