Is anyone else panicking about this emergency act about to go through?

I just heard about it on the radio.

Are we all walking blindly into this?

Our freedom is being snatched from us while we are blindfolded with fear.

I do think you need to seek some help from some of the mental help lines offering support at the moment. If you’d truly rather be dead than have your liberty restricted for a few months to save hundreds of thousands of lives (as 800,000 predicted to die without any social distancing) then you do need to seek some help. For the sake of your young children please do reach out

The pandemic is clearly real
The social response to it is really interesting

But then people are people. We don't really change.

On another thread someone said it's wrong to question the actions of the authorities ( on something unrelated a few years back where they admitted they had lied) because it will undermine confidence in them.

I think a fair amount of the population have a sort of desire for really quite heavy duty stuff from the authorities and no questions asked because they like to believe in them, and also a bit of an us and them mentality with the assumption they will always be in the us group.

Not aimed at any posters just a general observation.

People are calling for their liberties to be taken - temporarily - to save lives, because the large number of fuckwits in society think that they outsmart a virus.

Are you not able to understand what's happening with CV by looking at statistics of cases and deaths abroad? Why do you think it will be different here?

OP. You've said "If we have to live like this we might as well be dead." Live like what? You don't even know what the updated restrictions are yet. You've been advised not to do some other things but so many people aren't able to stop being stupid and selfish that now everyone will have to have stricter restrictions. Needs must. You'd rather be dead? Really?

Because that's what you've said and soon that might literally be the choice. So would you rather live in a lockdown to see if it helps, or die? Or a loved one die?

It's correct to keep an eye on what is happening with new laws, and very interesting to see societal attitudes. But, idea it is all fake. Nope.

The way this has been handled in UK being so out of step I put down to govt dithering.

The thing is, if they don't lock the country down we will be in a lot of trouble. That's no exaggeration. People have been warned multiple times by the government and have continued to flaunt it; what happens next is the fault of the public, not the government.

Some of us have been prepping since late January, because we didn't think then it was "Just flu"

You need to take a few deep breaths

I do find it funny that 2 months ago people were handwringing about China going into lockdown - that it's so barbaric to lock people into flats and have police and army roaming the streets and arresting people for breaking quarantine. People were going on about it being an abuse of human rights etc. Now they're crying out for the same thing here.

But you're saying "they" and "they" interchangeably here as if all the people who said one thing have done an about turn and are now saying the opposite.

When actually it's a huge venn diagram - not everyone who said the first thing is now saying the other.

Plenty of us saw the necessity of lockdown before and continue to see the necessity of it now, thanks to people proving they won't keep themselves and others safe unless it is legally enforced in the moment.
