No BBC special this afternoon - is there a press briefing?

Just that really, I noticed there wasn't a BBC news special today and Boris did seem to be getting a bit bored with the whole daily press conference thing Confused

Updates on the numbers at 2pm seem to have gone by the wayside as well.

I was wondering this. We've been tuning in each day...

halcyondays · 23/03/2020 14:13

There’s a COBRA meeting today. I expect there’ll be an update after that.

AudacityOfHope · 23/03/2020 14:13

Scottish numbers have been updated today.

AudacityOfHope · 23/03/2020 14:13

Although I suspect a later briefing to announce lockdown.

SpudleyLass · 23/03/2020 14:13

I expect there will be the usual 5pm briefing.

Seems like they're gearing up for a lock down, too, after what he said last night.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 23/03/2020 14:14

There is? 3.45 Bbc1.

Can’t see picture. I’ll try again (bet the first one appears now as well)

There is, it starts at 15.45

I thought that no special might mean that Pointless will come back, but no joy. Why they can't just put the special on the news channel and leave the rest of the schedule alone, I'll never know.

There can't be anyone left who doesn't have access to the news channel somehow, surely?

Actually, I think the most vulnerable may not even know the news channel exists. I’m sure my aunt’s TV gets the free view channels but she watches BBC 1 and ITV. As far as I know, Channel 4 and Channel 5 don’t get a look in , let alone any of the other channels.

andannabegins · 23/03/2020 14:47

@marchez I think it's a good thing. When all other tv stops as a result of them shutting down production there will still be lots of pointless episodes on the can

evilharpy · 23/03/2020 14:48

My 80 year old mum doesn't know the news channel exists and wouldn't be able to find it if I told her. She remembers the numbers of BBC1 and 2, ITV, C4 and the RTE channels and finds them by putting the numbers into her remote control - she can't use the guide to scroll up and down. And complained bitterly when terrestrial telly was switched off as she found it all so confusing. I suspect lots of elderly folk are the same.

Unlike my husband's grandma who was still programming the video recorder well into her 80s.

I think BBC1 is the right place for the updates.

BarbaraofSeville Plenty dont get the news channel, my dad being one of them

BookSkark · 23/03/2020 14:56

I thought Pointless had moved to BBC2

adaline · 23/03/2020 14:57

You can follow everything on the BBC website, they have a live newsfeed running from about 6am each day, it's very useful.

Otherwise there's a programme on BBC News at 3.4pm.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2020 15:00

I thought Pointless had moved to BBC2

Oh, so it has. I appear to be one of those people unable to find channels other than BBC1 or ITV Blush

Taddda · 23/03/2020 15:00

It wasn't there this morning, is now

Taddda · 23/03/2020 15:03

As for pointless and the like, please tv planning people mix it up a bit now everyones stuck at home!!?? If I see anymore 'Classic' this and 'Best Bits' that....Angry

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2020 15:15

Yes, but I can find the news channel if I want to watch the news.

What I was complaining about was moving programmes from one channel to another with no information and then showing exactly the same programme on two channels simultaneously.

RadioRodeo · 23/03/2020 15:55

Just looks like 'normal' news that's on now?

FFSStayAtHome · 23/03/2020 16:27

News special banner says "Downing St daily breifing will not take plae today due to COBRA meeting"

PollyPocketLucyLocket · 23/03/2020 16:28

On Sky news now, it says that Boris will not give usual conference at 5pm, but will speak later.

DishingOutDone · 23/03/2020 16:29

Most people I know dont want to watch the news, or hear what Boris says. They'll get it second hand from Facebook friends or the Daily Fail.
