Please keep your children off school if you possibly can!

Teachers are not in school to save your job! They are not there to enable you to work from home! They are not there so your child doesn't miss their education! They are not there because you can't face looking after them all day! They are not there so your boss can keep his business operating! They are only there to keep absolutely critical workers working!

When this all over I want to return to work with ALL my colleagues.

OP posts:

Bad call OP. It smacks of rushing to be the one to deliver the news.

It's a tragic case and while you may have reasonable points, it's possible to get a message to hit home without this - that poor woman's family.

I don't really care if I upset you

You could well be upsetting the people you're seeking to 'protect,' which is why we try to choose words carefully in difficult times.

It would be very few children that don't have any alternative- people will have to be at home with them.

Yup, and in Italy, it's probably their grandparents that they are now staying with. Or I guess the nurses can leave their jobs and stay at home with their children, but I don't think that's going to do much for the cate fatality rate in the hospitals either.

Absolutely tragic. RIP.

I’d seen the news before I saw the thread. It’s terribly sad and will affect a whole community, and more.

I’m a key worker but sending my child in would be the last thing I want to do.

I have to mix with people, my children don’t.
I’m trying to decide whether to keep my children at their dads until all of this is over. School is the last thing on our minds.

Please ask for your title to be changed op.

Holdmenow “ several other countries including my own country have managed to work it out without having the schools open!! What makes it so difficult/different for the U.K.!!???”

How has your country done it?

OP very odd and hysterical title.

Everyone who dies will be somebody.

Yes, this is local to me. It's very sad - she wasn't particularly old, either.

Her school closed a couple of weeks ago once she tested positive as well. Sad

You sound unhinged.

Calm down.

Nobody is immune to this virus.

You cannot make assumption about where anyone caught it.

I am curious how those countries managing without closing schools are doing it?

We opened today to a tiny fraction of those we expected. We expect even fewer tomorrow. SLT are phoning round the Key Worker children checking how much they really need to be in eg if parents are on split shifts.

@user1477391263 - actually, one of the reasons so many elderly were passing away in Italy is the Nanas looking after their Grandchildren and people unwilling to keep their children away from their Grandparents.
@FreakStar - I understand you're upset but this is a very bad post title. She was human, someone's partner, mother, friend, relative. She deserves more than a forum post with exclamation marks.

Eerie, I did wonder that about Italy too.

This poor headteacher took ill a few weeks ago she must have put up a heck of a fight bless her. The hospital she was in (FGH) has no more ICU capacity already and serves a massive area covering the whole of South Lakes. Cumbria is one of the worst hit areas, I have a feeling things are about to get really bad. RIP to this poor lady.

Daisychain the title of the thread is correct, if you cant handle that, tough. Not everything can be pink and fluffy.

The reason so many elderly are dying in Italy is the same as everywhere else, they already had serious co-morbidity issues.

Given how many jobs the keyworker list covers, I’m not amazed quite a lot of children are going to school. Until lockdown comes, how on earth can parents who are both key workers or single parent key workers cope? Teachers can self isolate if needed.

It's like all compassion is just dissolving.

This person was someones family. On the odd chance their famiky sees this, would you be happy saying 'get over it....its factually correct'.

Theres resectful ways to this point across . This isnt one of them.

That's very sad OP, but there is no evidence that she caught it at school, she could have caught from family, at church, out on a shopping trip etc.

Report
Devlesko · 23/03/2020 14:48

You are right OP, it is disgusting how people are so entitled these days.
If you have kids unless you are a (real) key worker they should be at home.
Even if a key worker and your partner isn't, they should sah to care for their own children.
Step up and look after your own children. Don't try to work, a teacher and child minder aren't fitting another job in whilst they look after your kids. It's your turn now, so parent up.
Poor woman, so sorry, another person gone before their time.

Theres lots of reasons.

Their population had an average age, much older than china. Grandparents looking after kids, and th way they record them.

Theres no one reason.

You can't assume that she caught it at school. She was a person like the rest of us, going to the supermarket etc.

Teachers, let’s face it the public aren’t bothered if you die. They just want childcare.

ALL of us should self isolate for OUR safety.

Absolutely wrong. Some people dont care. Those people clearly dont care about their family and their community in general though.

The vast majority of us do care. If the public didnt care, most kids would be in school.

Lots of us, including key workers, are at home and mot sending kids in.

Making it a teachers vs all the public really isnt helping anyone.
