Did God create Coronavirus?

I'd really like to have a respectful discussion if possible!
I'm an atheist. I've seen a lot of churches etc posting on our local pages offering live services/ prayers etc.
I have to ask and I'm too scared to ask them directly
Surely if God created all, and is master of all our fates, he created Coronavirus? Or is it one of those 'We are in charge of our own destiny, he can't stop bad things from happening' situations?
Genuinely interested and hope this is taken in the vein it's intended. Flowers

It's wiping out fat old men.

So maybe god is a woman, she's getting rid of the patriarchy and giving us our turn finally.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/03/2020 19:26

Why can't fervent atheists live and let live?

We would. Were we allowed. Religious people want to control the schools, the government and my uterus among other things. Campaign to secularise those things and I will blissfully ignore religion.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:28

In the US, an evangelical pastor and a Rabbi issued a joint statement that God had sent COVID-19 as a punishment for gay people

But they're religious fruitbats

No, it's what can happen when people cram in together with live wild animals, raw meat and inadequate hygeine

MummyPop00 · 23/03/2020 19:33

Why would god create Coronavirus?

To teach humanity some kind of lesson?

If so, it’s a pretty crap attempt. 1-3% fatality is a very, very small dent on 7 1/2 billion.

You need Ebola/Black Death rates really.

OldQueen1969 · 23/03/2020 19:42

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demiurge

There's a whole bunch of interesting stuff here that opens up the debate further.

I'm quite fascinated tbh. I have faith but not in anything that can be explained...... or named....... and simply put I believe No-one can answer the OPs question with any degree of certainty because we just don't know...... but again, that's just my belief opinion......

I loves me a good philosophical debate I does :)

wehaveafloater · 23/03/2020 19:43

Nah my bet is on some mad nerd who got rejected by someone... it has just spread further than they ever intended.

LilQueenie · 23/03/2020 20:03

look at it this way. we ruined the planet. staying in has done wonders for it in such a short time. The air quality is better, animals are returning to areas and roaming free. nature is coming back. We are the ones now under threat. the tables have turned. Spiritually speaking this is our second chance. Are we thinking of others? are we treating people different. none of us are perfect but we have this choice.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 23/03/2020 20:05

@LilQueenie, we’re fighting over the last loo roll and ignoring life saving advice.
Darwinism.

LilQueenie · 23/03/2020 20:09

I call it ignorance and selfishness.

Macca84 · 23/03/2020 20:12

I really can't understand how anybody who believes in god, professes to love him. With all the shit he causes, I'd think he was an utter, narcissistic wanker. But then I'm an atheist, so therefore have nothing to fear.

LilQueenie · 23/03/2020 20:19

Macca84 he doesn't cause it though does he. people do because we were given freewill. if people stood up and took responsibility for themselves and their actions it would be different. but no its all why did god let this happen. how about asking the person/people at fault.

Macca84 · 23/03/2020 20:21

Well obviously I know he didn't cause it and humans did Grin

Isla727 · 23/03/2020 20:24

The world is the world and natural things happen in it. I think I'm agnostic really but did used to be Christian.

Really123456 · 23/03/2020 20:30

It's not possible to understand God and his ways. He works in mysterious ways unfathomable to us. What is known is that he was, is and is yet to come. What is known is that He does work to bring us closer to him.

cantfindausername2 · 23/03/2020 21:27

What cunt of a god would inflict people with this virus?

LilQueenie · 23/03/2020 21:30

what idiot would eat a bat knowing it can cause disease in humans. much the same way ebola came around again a few years back. Ebola could still become a pandemic like this one years from now.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/03/2020 22:00

Cows have TB. Do you eat them? Bean sprouts carry E. coli. I know these markets have risks but honestly, the way we eat is nothing to write home about!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 23/03/2020 22:07

Mother Nature created it as revenge for climate change damage and to let us know who is boss.

OchonAgusOchonO · 23/03/2020 23:49

@LilQueenie - what idiot would eat a bat knowing it can cause disease in humans.

If you'd asked me 2 months ago if I thought eating a bat would be likely to cause serious disease, I would probably have said I didn't think so. I suspect must people would have answered the same. Not everyone has your prescience.

Macca84 · 24/03/2020 00:09

@Fantasiaa probably because religion has brought so much death and destruction to our planet and hindered scientific advances so much it'll be nigh on impossible for the human race to survive. All because some were so fraught on this mythical sky man (a variety of them) who played the best ever game of hide and seek yet condemned those who didnt believe in him to an eternity of burning in hell? Apparently. It really is so ridiculous, it's time that grown adults grew the fuck up.

Macca84 · 24/03/2020 00:11

"God works in mysterious ways" get in! My religion bingo card is complete 😂

LilQueenie · 24/03/2020 00:23

OchonAgusOchonO it wasn't long ago we were all made aware of it during the ebola outbreak.

PippaPegg · 24/03/2020 00:27

God isn't a vending machine y'know. It's not like if you press the magic combo he's gonna drop a load of sweeties on you.

Life is shit and hard. That's why we have God.

Another way of putting it is the Buddha's infamous response, "the question does not fit the case".

CochonDinde · 24/03/2020 01:31

Which magic sky God are we on about here??

Not that any of them exist obvs

LilQueenie · 24/03/2020 02:01

universal energy for me. I don't believe god as a man. Energy source yes. Everything in our universe is an energy of some sort.
