So far I’ve thought of:

Drug addicts that normally shop lift to get money, what will they do?

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

Err that’s all I can think of, but surely there’s more?

OP posts:
agentstarling · 22/03/2020 23:23

some druggies will end up clean due to lack of income

Hollyhobbi · 22/03/2020 23:24

One thing I can confirm having been in A & E in the largest hospital in Dublin 4 times over the last few weeks. All the junkies and alcoholics are avoiding the hospital. It's great. Even got seen by a doctor immediately the last time. Also all the time wasters with sore fingers which have been sore for the last three weeks are nowhere to be seen! Although the fact that one half of the A and E is full of suspected Corona Virus patients is very scary😢

NotAGirl · 22/03/2020 23:26

TheLadyAnneNeville I have no helpful advice just compassion for the situation you are in. This is a scary position particularly when you're still in the raw grief stage. It took 2 years after my father's death before I felt I had accepted it. If your mum died just before Christmas this is early days yet, it does get easier with time.

Hopefully someone with more experience of MH and anxiety will have more to suggest.

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 23:26

Herd immunity will not work, we will be potential carriers, so most countries will ban British people from entering,

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 23:26

As a scientist this is like one gigantic (tragic) experiment that no ethics committee would ever allow

That made me laugh.

I can just imagine the grant proposal.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 22/03/2020 23:27

I thought the same about handshakes. I can’t imagine it ever being normal to shake someone’s hand again after this.

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 23:27

Herd immunity will not work, we will be potential carriers, so most countries will ban British people from entering

Yet most countries around the world have Coronavirus...

Sprinklez · 22/03/2020 23:28

Vacation/holiday trips abroad around the world will be limited. The day of cheap flights and people jumping on planes as many times as they fancy and to whatever country they fancy and travelling continents as they fancy are over. Work trips will have to be pre-approved on the basis of necessity.

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 23:29

British of a certain generation will never trust any government again.
Pension and disability benefits bill will be reduced for a generation.

chomalungma · 22/03/2020 23:29

Pupils might actually respect school and education.

You don't know what you've got until it's gone.

Alialialiali · 22/03/2020 23:30

@CloudsCanLookLikeSheep
Not sure my brother is taking the advice on social distancing very seriously if he is having some random come round his flat for a shag!

As long as they shag with masks on and wash their hands for 20seconds

IpeartreeI · 22/03/2020 23:30

People might get used to not plastering their faces in makeup if they're not going out, so will learn to embrace the natural look, their skin will improve and they'll save money.

More online shopping and more high street shop closures.

People might not be able to care for their pets which will lead to more neglect, dumping and cruelty.

Jade308 · 22/03/2020 23:30

We will all have the hands of an 85 year old women from washing them so much.

Will probably get more colds/sick bugs as our immunity will be shit from months inside

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 23:30

@chomalungma and they are eradicating it, we risk making it endemic like flu.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:30

@NewNameChange2020, thanks love. Yes, I have a DH and DSis but it’s only now, with everyone in bed I can drop the mask and cry.

It’s exhausting being “brave” all day. As I say, for myself, I do not care but if anything happens to me, there will not have been enough time to prepare DS for independence. He has ASD.

Thank you for caring,

Pineappletree33 · 22/03/2020 23:31

We'll all emerge after 12 months about a stone heavier

Optimistic, I think I’ve done about 5 stone in the last week alone Grin

FannyCann · 22/03/2020 23:31

It's true. My Mum fell and broke a hip exactly two weeks ago. She was through A&E and on a ward in no time and the nurse actually said all the people with splinters are staying away.

Thankfully operated on and out of hospital just before it filled with coronavirus patients. Alas, she has gone to a home for some recuperation and rehab, the home closed its doors on Friday. I hope they keep her safe and I get to see her again one day...

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:32

@NotAGirl. Thank you. That’s very kind.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 22/03/2020 23:32

Massive recession the likes of which we have never seen before prompting a fairer society
People actually living hedonistically have lived through such uncertainty
More people choosing to live off the grid and be self sufficient
Huge increases of OCD and agrophobia as paranoia of humans and invisible germs
The realisation that plans can change overnight
Nature taking over parks and areas looked after by council
People not as obsessed with celebrity culture and how they look
The whole pandemic being studied after the event and how it changed everything after.
On a positive note if it goes on for a long time countries that are usually hostile to each other pulling together resources, aid and support as we all realise we get ill, suffer and become poorer

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 23:33

A class action against the British government for deliberately allowing elderly and vulnerable people to die. Will take 15 years with lots of shocking facts revealed in newspapers and will lead to a record settlement. Johnson will become most reviled PM in history.

Sprinklez · 22/03/2020 23:33

alloutoffucks Any banning of entering countries will work all ways and both ways. This can't and won't be allowed to happen again. Anaylsis of spread in time will illustrate exactly how this virus spread and by what patterns and means, and steps will be taken to severely limit the channels by which it happened. The world can't afford another pandemic (as, when, if we get past this one).

Ilovemypantry · 22/03/2020 23:34

Everyone’s lips will be normal size again as lip fillers will be unavailable. Unless a lot of people will buy online in which case we will see all sorts of horrific diy jobs!

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:36

@Mintypylonsfryingsurplus, it’d be wonderful if On a positive note if it goes on for a long time countries that are usually hostile to each other pulling together resources, aid and support as we all realise we get ill, suffer and become poorer.

Can you imagine how amazing THAT would be?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 23:38

Boris Johnson’s ego has led him to this position as PM. Nothing more than the poisoned chalice he so deserves.

alloutoffucks · 22/03/2020 23:39

@Sprinklez We will get another pandemic at some point. Antibiotic resistance has been a major issue for some time. A bacterial pandemic will be the big one. There is lots that has been written about this. Largely ignored by governments who think much more short term.
Difference will be population will take it more seriously next time and people like me will not be accused of scaremongering when we were talking about CV weeks ago on here. Then people did not believe it would ever reach Britain, even though it was clear they were wrong.
