Watching her speech now, I wish Boris would take note. She’s being very clear re expectations of employers, hotels, school places being for the ‘most critical key workers’ etc. Would love to see BoJo do the same.

If you want a job doing well ask a woman

She is amazing

LadyMadderRose · 22/03/2020 19:04

Stealth :o Yes it's not so much that there aren't any women in UK govt senior positions, just that the Corona briefing line-ups seemed very all-male until today (admittedly I haven't seen every one).

Someone was handwringing about it today on R4 actually and then the female deputy CMO appeared so I wonder if they became more aware of it.

Kordelia · 22/03/2020 19:05

She isn't amazing.

There are too many shambolic, failed projects in Scotland and standards in education are getting worse and worse.

ShellsAndSunrises · 22/03/2020 19:10

@LadyMadderRose She’s been on for the majority of the week; I think... at least half. She’s great. I don’t think there’s a huge amount to praise BoJo for, generally, but she’s been around and excellent.

LadyMadderRose · 22/03/2020 19:17

Oh I'm just talking shite then, ignore me! Blush

Outofdodge · 22/03/2020 19:22

The rates of cases per 100,000 of population aren't that far behind England (8.6 versus 7.6). Considering the difference in population densities, I would have expected Scotland to have a lower rate than England at this stage.

And with only 5 ICU beds per 100,000 people in Scotland it just doesn't seem anywhere near enough.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2020 19:24

Yes I suppose. But at that level of seniority you can't read too much into it. If this had happened 2(?) years ago the PM and CMO would have both been women.

Oh the irony! You might want to dig in to Nicola thinks a woman actually is...hint...her definition includes men...

Falacy · 23/03/2020 16:01

Her speech today was just as good. Clear and extremely to the point.

She needs to school Boris on how to speak publicly. His briefings are beyond awful.

Metoyoutoo · 23/03/2020 16:09

I left Scotland when she came to power. Horrible woman who only cares about independence. She’ll fuck off if Scotland gets it so someone else can clear up the shitshow she left behind.

lowlandLucky · 23/03/2020 16:39

Cant stand the woman but she really led the country last night

Aesopfable · 23/03/2020 17:05

Led the country, how? What powers has she put in place? What decisions has she implemented? What resources has she directed where?

koshkatt · 23/03/2020 17:20

The SNP are a shit show. Dreadful.

MintyMabel · 23/03/2020 17:46

I would have expected Scotland to have a lower rate than England at this stage.

70% of the population live in the central belt. Of the remainder, the two other urban areas account for a further 20% of the population. We are large in area with a low overall population per m2, but that doesn’t paint a true picture.

I feel she has just waited for Boris to make decisions then followed on

She announced school closures before BoJo did. She’s generally made decisions one step ahead of him. I have my own suspicions of her motives there, but she did it nevertheless.

The Scottish Governments response to caring for key workers children was ‘it is up to local authorities’.

Situation normal for them. They make few decisions themselves so they can point the finger of blame up to Westminster or down to LA when it goes wrong.

Are the Scottish NHS contacting people the same as England?
Yes.

How would an independent Scotland be faring now, during this crisis I wonder when we all see the benefits of pulling together?

I think now we’d do just fine. SNP would be throwing money at people to help too, that’s their ethos. I do think we’d spend a whole lot longer recovering financially from it than the U.K. will.

She is a good politician

Yes, she takes no responsibility for anything that goes wrong, promised things she can’t deliver, and fails to answer questions when asked. Excellent as a politician.

playthestation · 23/03/2020 17:50

The only difference between Sturgeon and Boris is that she is better at communicating than he.
They still both spout the same shite. Sturgeon has one agenda and one only.

Aesopfable · 23/03/2020 19:59

She announced school closures before BoJo did

No she didn’t, she said it was inevitable that they would close and that was her planning assumption.

koshkatt · 23/03/2020 20:02

Quite.

Kordelia · 23/03/2020 20:26

playthestation

Completely agree. She speaks better but her and her party's record in Scotland is abysmal.

Smellbellina · 23/03/2020 22:44

The only difference between Sturgeon and Boris is that she is better at communicating than he.

This was my original point, she was very direct and it was clear what she was asking people to do. BJ just doesn’t carry the same clout when he needs to speak with severity.

OP posts:
Aesopfable · 24/03/2020 01:10

I saw someone (Nat) say NS had the balls to call it a lockdown whereas BJ didn’t - and yet it was BJ who announced the measure, she just did what she has done at every step and wait for him to decide then follow up with a pretty speech.
