Watching her speech now, I wish Boris would take note. She’s being very clear re expectations of employers, hotels, school places being for the ‘most critical key workers’ etc. Would love to see BoJo do the same.

I personally do not like her in general but I said exactly the same. The people of Scotland have been told in no uncertain terms. Boris is being far too polite and waffley!

DarkDarkNight · 22/03/2020 17:45

I was very impressed with her speech. She was pretty forceful in what she said.

LadyMadderRose · 22/03/2020 17:45

Ooh I take that back, Bojo has Dr Jenny Harries today.

Ginkypig · 22/03/2020 17:45

Can someone please post a link I can't find the most recent one.

Thankyou.

Asterisktheknackered · 22/03/2020 17:46

Are the Scottish NHS contacting people the same as England?

LellyMcKelly · 22/03/2020 17:49

I’m not Scottish and not particularly a fan of Her politics, but she is endlessly impressive. She’s clear, intelligent, and has thought about, and actually believes what she’s saying. I could trust her.

Mawbags · 22/03/2020 17:50

She's amazing.
She puts that spineless bumbling buffoon to shame

Smellbellina · 22/03/2020 17:55

spineless bumbling buffoon

A very good description of his latest briefing!

She hasn’t laid down the law at all. No laws have been changed. She would need to go to the Scottish Parliament for that. The message on schools places is very muddled so no one knows who can go (possibly only some NHS workers - no one else, even food supply/manufacture). School lunches may be being provided to the vulnerable but only if parents are prepared to drive up to 30 miles each way to get a small packed lunch. Scottish NHS is even more overstretched than the English NHS with fewer ICU beds per head of population.

Aesopfable · 22/03/2020 18:00

The Scottish Governments response to caring for key workers children was ‘it is up to local authorities’. That was pretty much it. And the reason she now has to say S4-6 mustn’t be in school is because they had said schools should arrange for them to go in in order to finish off course work.

AgentCooper · 22/03/2020 18:01

I’m really glad we’ve got her. Her updates are so clear and precise.

I said a few weeks ago that I thought at some point she’d say fuck it, this is what you need to do, regardless of what Boris was saying. I still think that’s going to happen.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 22/03/2020 18:13

She’s a good communicator. I hate her politics however with the anti Boris sentiment in Scotland her job is being made easier. Boris avoiding lockdown, Scottish folk are therefore wanting it. I also think overall Scotland is lagging England in outbreak stats quite significantly, this could prove very important in weeks to come.

McCanne · 22/03/2020 18:15

Nobody in Scotland wants lockdown because Johnson is avoiding it?

koshkatt · 22/03/2020 18:15

I think she is a woke idiot. But hey ho.

Wotrewelookinat · 22/03/2020 18:19

I thought she spoke very well, as did the doctor with Boris. Boris was pathetic.

IntoTheUnkown · 22/03/2020 18:22

I was just saying to DH, the clarity of information and overall optics in Scotland are so much better. I’m not sure what we are being told to do is hugely different from south of the border, but the information given out at press conferences is easier to understand.
Catherine Calderwood looks tired today though. She’s doing an amazing job, but I can’t help wondering if she (& Nicola & Jeanne) have enough time to sleep and take care of themselves. This is only the start.

Smellbellina · 22/03/2020 18:22

Yes the Dr with Boris stepped up, seemed to encourage him to grow a little bit of back bone at the end of the briefing, she was still noticeably stronger than him though.

I love Nicola. Watching her briefings made me so glad that I moved to Scotland. I'm always glad. But that's one more reason.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 22/03/2020 18:26

She is a good politician - sadly can’t count or she would realise independence will destroy us

GrumpyHoonMain · 22/03/2020 18:31

It’s easy to write amazing speeches when you’re not responsible for doing any of the work.

Aesopfable · 22/03/2020 18:38

Clartity? Ha! Even closing the schools what she said was ‘we think it will be inevitable they will close’ and it was an planning assumption’. She didn’t actually say ‘close them!’

Aesopfable · 22/03/2020 18:39

Has she said anything about getting access to beds in private hospitals? So far it seems that is only happening in England.

StealthPolarBear · 22/03/2020 18:45

LadyMadderRose the cmo in England was female till very recently too.
Agh that reads wrong. Makes it sound like Chris whitty is trans. I have no reason to believe that is the case. The role was held by a lady doctor :o she was responsible for the health of the 51% too.

awaynboilyurheid · 22/03/2020 18:46

I feel she has just waited for Boris to make decisions then followed on, Ireland were so decisive closing schools before the UK . To me she could have taken the lead too but instead waited which just showed weakness She talks a good game as we have found to our cost in Scotland If you’ve been at the mercy of one of the super hospitals recently as I have you will see it’s shambolic and that’s before the CV outbreak.

LittleLittleLittle · 22/03/2020 18:47

@Smellbellina like with every message from him.
