FFS lock the country down now

Is anyone looking at the British public this weekend and thinking FFS lock us down! lock us down now and hard!

Are people really that thick to think that whats happened to poor china, Italy and Iran, cant happen to us.

Our government have seen it coming and done nothing. Other than protect the economy cos that's more important than lives and our NHS. We should have been in lockdown from friday.

I despair at the thought of a full, enforced lockdown but we’re on our knees begging for it, the way we’re carrying on. It’s like a non-stop Bank Holiday in my neck of the woods. And I’m fairly certain I’ll hate my neighbours by the end of all this.

There are a lot of not-so-bright people out there.

SpyApp · 22/03/2020 15:31

We have the lowest number of ICU beds per head of population in Europe so please tourists/second home owners fuck off out of Wales.

TheVanguardSix · 22/03/2020 15:33

And what IS with the group strolls??? All weekend, I’ve seen people walking en masse, 10 person picnics yesterday, dog walks- one dog, 8 people. I mean, never, in every day life do I see this.

RoseCider · 22/03/2020 15:34

I’m in Scotland and I’ve just watched the First Ministers briefing. Nothing was mentioned about lockdown but she did say Police will be given extra powers over the next few days to shut the pubs down that are still opening. She urged everyone not to congregate in groups and our Heath Minister has said that instead of one person infecting 2-3 people its risen to one person infecting between 4 and 6 people. She also announced that no children have to go into High Schools tomorrow to finish coursework unless they are children of Keyworkers or are vulnerable. This is to try and slow the spread of the virus. I’m so disappointed they never went to lock down.

Army. People will soon adhere

Loly365 · 22/03/2020 15:38

www.parliament.uk petition for LOCKDOWN , even if after this weekend it might be too little too late...

AnotherMurkyDay · 22/03/2020 15:42

Well in a country with low policing the police require us to police each other and ourselves and to accept their measures. So I do think they are waiting for public opinions to shift before implementation, because even with the army the last thing they want is rebellion and rioting. We want lock down to be as civilised as possible, but the army are going to have to be a part of that because our armed forces have not been cut to the bone the way out policing has (at least I hope not but I could be wrong about that too, I'm not exactly sure as I don't keep a good eye on the defence budget but have been made personally aware of cuts to policing and healthcare)

Be better off petitioning for a ban on flights from coronavirus hotspots

SpyApp · 22/03/2020 15:52

Or both Vegas

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:06

Yorkshire water have just announced they're having to close car parks around their reservoirs as an unprecedented amount of people have visited them this weekend!! Ffs!

CKoRn · 22/03/2020 16:09

These people are in for some seriously harsh times. There are increasing reports of people in their thirties DYING from this now. It's not just the elderly dying from it, or even people with underlying conditions.

These selfish bastards are about to learn the hard way, because you know they're just thinking it won't affect them.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:13

Just seen the pictures of Richmond and Victoria Parks, are people completely oblivious to this virus?!

weebarra · 22/03/2020 16:17

My parents in law, DH's DSis and her wife and his DGM (90 next month) live in the Highlands, about an hour north of Inverness.
Their village has a population of about 300.
Bloody tourists have been rocking up all weekend and shopping at the only shop.
Fuckwits.

mindproject · 22/03/2020 16:24

I've just been out and noticed that other people are out too. What the hell are they are all doing? Don't they realise how selfish they are all being? Obviously I'm not selfish because I'm special.

I went to the supermarket to buy 200 loo rolls and noticed that other people were buying stuff and they had bought the loo rolls before me. Seriously, don't these people care about other people? What about the people that can't get to the loo rolls first? What are they supposed to do?

You're all mad hypocrites.

mindproject · 22/03/2020 16:26

Most people are oblivious to the virus because they're not glued to the propaganda machine AKA Mumsnet and the News.

Paddingtonthebear · 22/03/2020 16:28

Most people are oblivious to the virus?

What???!!

WeArnottamused · 22/03/2020 16:32

It needs to happen now, if needed bring in the forces to prop up the Police force. What is it going to take for people to realise that in 2 weeks time we will be Italy?

mindproject · 22/03/2020 16:33

Covetingthepreciousthing mentioned that people might be oblivious to the virus. I just gave a reason why that might be the case.

covetingthepreciousthings · 22/03/2020 16:33

You're all mad hypocrites

I've not left my house all weekend, however I have access to twitter and seen all the pictures from across the country Hmm

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 16:37

You're all mad hypocrites

I can see the beach from my garden, I don't need to go out to see how many tourists there are on it today.

CorianderLord · 22/03/2020 16:39

Its very quiet here in London. We went to the supermarket and everyone swerved each other in the street and stayed apart where possible, lots of people wearing gloves. A few people at the park but not interacting.

Chill. Most people are generally doing as they're told and social distancing rather than isolating.

mindproject · 22/03/2020 16:40

I can see the beach from my garden

It's all right for some. If you lived in a damp bedsit with no view, you might find getting out a bit would be good for your sanity.

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 16:41

@mindproject I live in a damp ancient fisherman's cottage. Full of adapted disability equipment for my very vulnerable sick disabled son. So I hope you won't begrudge me the fact it's by the sea.

BillywilliamV · 22/03/2020 16:42

Lock down will kill more people than the virus, just invisibly without the impact on itu beds.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 22/03/2020 16:44

The Govt. got it wrong. Telling us it was a certain age group/co morbid conditions who were most affected. We didn’t know enough. We STILL don’t know enough.

It’ll take a fit and healthy 15yr old/25 yr old/ 30 yr old or children to die before it hits home. We’re fucked because human nature for many means an attitude of “We’ll be fine, it’s only flu”. WAKE UP!
