Is anyone looking at the British public this weekend and thinking FFS lock us down! lock us down now and hard!

Are people really that thick to think that whats happened to poor china, Italy and Iran, cant happen to us.

Our government have seen it coming and done nothing. Other than protect the economy cos that's more important than lives and our NHS. We should have been in lockdown from friday.

I'm terrified for me and my family, I'm a single parent of 3, unless we lockdown I have to continue to work, my eldest son is an apprentice electrician and being sent all over....i fear for him the most. We need a lock down now!! For the sake of all of us!

Smileyoriley · 22/03/2020 14:43

Yes. Sorry I think we do as too many dense people out there. Majority are taking it seriously where we live, but still some wandering around in large groups for a stroll. My next door neighbour has his whole extended family and girlfriend round today!

SuperficialSuzie · 22/03/2020 14:49

It seems like the government ask people to do stuff first, but then when they don't, as everyone thinks they are a special case, the government have to enforce it - e.g. last Monday they asked people not to go to pubs etc...the public ignored them so they closed them on Friday.

They have asked people to stay home...people ignore them so the government have to bring in lockdown.

It's like they have to treat the public like stroppy teenagers.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/03/2020 14:51

Like others I'm in despair looking at all the pictures of people gathering at the seaside and other tourist spots.

It's just so godamn irresponsible.

I just don't understand the mentality at all.

OrangeSamphire · 22/03/2020 14:52

This is the lane above my local beach here in Cornwall. If anyone doubted the tourists are here in droves, this ought to settle that doubt.

We need to lock down NOW.

Worry about this instead.

Flights from Iran, China and Italy are landing daily.

No lockdown will work until this is stopped.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 22/03/2020 14:54

Im just hanging on for the briefing today. I thought they would do the right thing friday but the spread from this weekend will bs horrendous

A family I know were ill last week, one child had a hight temp and cough.
They have taken the children out in the car today. And on a bike ride. They should be self isolating for another 7 days.
They are avoiding people , just knocked at my door and stood well back. But even so I think they are probably still getting petrol and collecting take aways.

rjebgf · 22/03/2020 15:00

So many stupid people.

No comprehension of the situation.

We are mass murdering the vulnerable, together with other people who will be randomly killed. And in the process murdering our NHS workers and the NHS itself.

I am so ashamed to be British.

I know someone (in their twenties) who had a high temp. After a couple of days, he felt better and had a party. 10 of his friends now ill with covid. He deserves to be hung.

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 22/03/2020 15:03

Yep, the sooner the better. People are idiots, we've had conferences saying please stay in for anything but essential, and then yesterday's pretty please don't panic buy with a cherry on top and people pay fuck all attention.

Make them.

Coughisoff · 22/03/2020 15:03

Lock down. Army and police enforcing it. Simple as that.

Well it isn’t realm that simple is it. But that’s what needs to happen.

BogOffWinter · 22/03/2020 15:05

What time is the briefing today?

vegas888 · 22/03/2020 15:06

What’s the point of lockdown when we still have regular flights in from Italy, Iran and China.
Then people are getting flamed for having a cup of tea in their own gardens

Eggcited · 22/03/2020 15:07

BogOffWinter I believe it starts at 4.10.

Upthehillanddownagain · 22/03/2020 15:10

As with so many things, it's the small percentage of stupid, selfish or both that means it's a necessary step for all of us. I've signed the petition - thank you for the link.

DazedandConcerned · 22/03/2020 15:11

My local off license is having a 'yard sale' of beer. Cheap prices. Obviously, people are coming from far and wide mixing while they "stock up on the essentials."

Lock us down now. People have no bloody sense!

HuggedTheRedwoods · 22/03/2020 15:11

HowIrresponsible - I came on to post the same thing!!

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/coronavirus-flights-from-italy-iran-and-china-still-landing-3v7363rxr

How can it be allowed that flights from China, Iran and Rome are still landing in the UK?? WTF is the point of us following measures if this is allowed to happen?

BogOffWinter · 22/03/2020 15:12

@Eggcited thanks!

MissingLinker · 22/03/2020 15:12

*I agree. I'm in the West Midlands, a hot spot. The supermarkets are dire, yet my relatives in affluent part of Bristol say it's fine there.

I don't think some people see what's really happening out there.*

I'm in Bristol as well, but not in an affluent part at all and supermarkets don't look much different here, bar the meat and egg sections in local Asda. High street almost completely shut down though. People seem to have taken to social distancing quite well around here, if not isolation. There's still a lot of people out and about but big gaps between everyone.

Idratherbeatthebeach · 22/03/2020 15:15

I think it's coming too. I think they'll have to as otherwise, come tomorrow, there'll be children playing together everywhere, people bunched together in takeaways and coffee shops.

I've got to say, our city seems a hell of a lot calmer today. We have been out and got some games for the dc for the coming weeks/months. Not ideal I know but I went in on my own and stayed away from people. The shop was extremely quiet and the staff were enforcing 2 metre distances in the queues.

I'm dreading being completely locked in as I was planning a walk everyday with the dc (not to the playground) just woods, cycle paths. I fear we won't be allowed.

AnotherMurkyDay · 22/03/2020 15:19

@covetingthepreciousthings

Yes I think this too. I think he's been listening to the behavioural science and staggering things so that we will be more willing

BarefootHippieChick · 22/03/2020 15:21

I hate to say this but I think it's going to take a lot more deaths before the Government actually do lock down and close borders etc. It's clear they don't want to. They'll just keep asking people to be 'sensible' which quite clearly isn't working. Also, do we even have enough police and army to enforce it?

Loly365 · 22/03/2020 15:23

Agree 100% ! Lock us down ! I understand all the restrictions and mental health issues would be very hard on some people. But I would suffer what ever comes with it. It's better than dying! Nobody is listening to advice, majority twisting it to their needs of "fresh air "

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/03/2020 15:26

Well we probably don’t have enough police officers to enforce a lockdown alone, as government has snipped away at emergency services for years so the army will have to help. The logistics of that will take planning..

Also they need to be careful how they introduce a lockdown, give too much notice and people will be out rioting....jumping in the car to the countryside. But giving half hours notice isn’t fair either

Instead of just closing bars and restaurants they should of closed ALL attractions I mean some zoo business are still open! The also should of closed ALL shops apart from supermarket and chemist, taped off beaches at the same time they closed schools.

I don’t want a lockdown, I don’t like the idea of a lockdown, I don’t agree with a free country doing that. However I think the government could of dealt with this a lot better...They just didn’t think about closing schools and keeping attractions open...Yes some people are wise and wouldn’t dream of taking little Johnny to the beach or the zoo for a day out, but we also have many thick Sarah’s in this world that are more than happy to take Johnny to the rammed beach almost like she wants her child sick.

I also think they need to spell it out harsher for the thick and hard of understanding something like our PM saying “ don’t want your child to die, from this virus keep them home” He needs to be harsher, not this nice polite Britishness we are used too... You need to put the fear of god in to them..You need to appeal to there parental insist, love for there mum whatever works
