Thread 2 Feel like my chest is on fire

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 03:07

The other thread looked like it ended I know folks wanted a second thread.

I think I'm now day 13

Chest still heavy. Cough disappeared. I'm hoping it's on it's way now

@Casino218 thanks, do I need to report it anywhere. I just feel dramatic like I’m jumping on a bandwagon and tbh it feels similar to the annual chest/cold virus I get once a year in winter, which I haven’t had this year for once!

Should I just keep on with the paracetamol ?

zigzagbetty · 22/03/2020 05:46

I went to bed last night shivering, couldn't get warm. Temp 39.1, just woke up feeling woozy and with a heavy feeling in my lungs if that makes sense. Paracetamol seems to have brought temp down to 38.1. eyes are streaming like I'm crying.

zigzagbetty · 22/03/2020 05:50

Reading the article above does that mean that self isolating for 7 days is not enough? I know my employer expects people who are infected to be back in work after 7 days

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 05:51

@Tempnamelady you could log symptoms on 111 assessment. It asks you to enter post code.

Yes paracetamol best .

Isolate

OP posts:
Casino218 · 22/03/2020 05:54

@zigzagbetty you should not go back if infected. Absolutely not.

OP posts:
Casino218 · 22/03/2020 05:57

@zigzagbetty it says in article that they detected the virus present but not infectious by day 8. So after 7 days self isolating you are able to go back.

OP posts:
zigzagbetty · 22/03/2020 05:57

I am off for the 7 days but it says if have no temp then can stop isolating. Obviously on day 1 here so have no clue how this will play out. God I hope my mil doesn't get this.

zigzagbetty · 22/03/2020 05:58

Cross post!

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 06:00

I've never had a temp so I think the advice is a bit crap

OP posts:
polkadotpixie · 22/03/2020 06:04

I think I've got it and I'm terrified. I've been up all night literally shaking with fear

Fever between 37.5 and 38.7 (up and down), sore throat, sweating and diarrhoea

I'm so scared I'm going to pass it onto my 18 month old son and I'll lose him or I'll die and leave him without a Mum

No underlying health conditions and I'm 35. Please tell me we'll both be okay

findingschools4myboys · 22/03/2020 06:05

Day 12 here. Chest pressure has definitely lifted last couple of days. But really struggling with my head/sinus/ear pressure which has caused mild vertigo and heaviness. I could barely sleep in the night as I kept waking up from being dizzy. Kept trying to do vertigo exercises in middle of night and was eventually able to get a little bit of sleep sleeping upright.
Will take any suggestions of how to improve vertigo and how can I sleep with this??

Amimissingsomethinghere · 22/03/2020 06:05

Thanksthanks @Casino218. Weve been isolating obviously and we are in a small flat it's tough and I just want to feel better!! Can sleep as just woke up after having a sweating fit.

Does anyone know if there is a website listing the stats regarding symptoms etc?

findingschools4myboys · 22/03/2020 06:14

@polkadotpixie
I know it’s very easy getting anxious (have been there loads) but don’t worry even if you have it. Most people will be fine and can manage at home. Children are barely affected.
I have seen lots of people saying they have same symptoms as you and they are still doing fine.
I had sore throat and diarrhoea earlier in the week and a couple of days where my temp was elevated (37.9)
If you get anxious with panic in night I would suggest you actually get up and get some fresh air from window and listen to calm music for a bit. Otherwise you might just lie in bed shaking with racing thoughts for ages.

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 06:18

@polkadotpixie you and your son will be fine. The reasons being you are young, children tend to spread virus but not particularly suffer any symptoms, you have no underlying conditions. You will probably give yourself more problems from worrying than the virus will give you.

Hey everyone, can I ask how your symptoms started? On Friday I felt very tired and was freezen all day. Yesterday I was exhausted to the point I could do nothing and I was sleeping from 7pm. Today I have woke up with a sore throat and aches all over and a snuffy nose. Im not sure if corona virus or somthing else.

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 06:34

Yep mine started in a similar way but also itchy eyes.

findingschools4myboys · 22/03/2020 06:42

Mine started with temp rise (37.7), on and off tiredness, pressure on chest, oh and actually I remember I kept sneezing.

LefttoherownDevizes · 22/03/2020 06:53

Just joining in. Started with cough, sore throat, sore mouth, feeling like something struck in throat yesterday.

Overnight chills, fever, and oh my goodness the acheing. I could'nt get out of bed for the loo as too cold/achey. Severe headache, and so took paracetamol at 5am. Temp is now 37.8 an hour later, v flushed cheeks and v swollen hands, have had to take rings off.

Only 14 and 11 year old ds' standing, DH, Dd13 and I all ill.

I am someone who had been a bit blase about it, take it all back, it's take not nice at all

Take care peeps

Casino218 · 22/03/2020 06:59

Nitpickpicnic - I’m asthmatic but not severely, moderate never need hospital but have a stronger steroid combined inhaler, otherwise I take a lot of ventolin.

I’ve seen advice against oral steroids, for the same reason we’re being advised to avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, so good to query that if you can. I’ve stopped my preventer as I’ve got a bit worse just as a precaution- but my risk is low and asthma is deadly too so best check with a doctor before stopping.

The illness is like having an asthma flare up (but with sore windpipe) and I’m finding ventolin helps a lot. I think the cough makes the wheezing worse and doesn’t bring up much mucus anyway.

Does anyone feel a cold sensation like menthol in their chest? I have it at the bottom left of my ribs and DH felt in both sides low down.

zen1 · 22/03/2020 07:23

I have been reading these threads with interest. Last week (shortly after you started the first thread OP), I felt like I was coming down with a mild cold (sore throat, sneezing, runny nose etc). Usually, I suffer very badly when I get colds. I get through 2 boxes of tissues per day, my eyes stream so that I can’t see and I feel terrible and the symptoms are usually bad for a week.

This cold didn’t seem to progress and I felt as if I was fighting it off. On day two, as well as the mild symptoms, I felt like I had a burning in my chest (I was trying to think if I’d eaten anything acidic), I also developed a cough (not hacking, more like if you inhale an irritant) and I suddenly felt exhausted. I was walking along and I felt like I had to stop and wanted to go to bed. This was at 9.00 in the morning. I felt exhausted all day. I carried on though and commented to DH that I felt breathless like my bra was constricting my chest and like the area behind my breastbone was burning. I also felt cold.

I was reading Mumsnet in the middle of the night worrying about the burning, when your first thread came up in Active. I didn’t see the topic, but I clicked on it thinking “thank goodness someone else knows this feeling”. I was fully expecting a thread about acid indigestion. However, when I read all the posts, my blood ran cold as they were almost identical to what I was experiencing. I didn’t post though as my symptoms weren’t as bad as other people’s.

My mild cold symptoms abruptly disappeared after 4 days and I felt ok again, but 5 days later, they came back minus the chest feeling. I don’t know whether I’m just fighting a cold or what, but the chest thing last week was quite painful and I also had some upper back pain.

Has anyone had really horrible dreams with this bug? Not sure if it's due to the news headlines or temperature! 😖
Struggling with similar symptoms- day 7
🌹 for all you poorly folk

Porcupineinwaiting · 22/03/2020 07:33

Just checking in. Day 2 (or poss 3 or 4) here. Still gastric symptoms only and chills. And a burning mouth and white tongue. Yesterday I was sure it was cv, today I'm not, but keeping well away from family just in case.

@Casino218
You are giving the wrong advice. The poster you are trying to help has a temperature of 37.6 so telling them they should take paracetamol to reduce this is 100% the opposite of what they need. The human immune system works better at an elevated temperature plus the virus dislikes higher temperatures. I might have had this several weeks ago and I had a temperature all the way up to 39.0 and I didnt try and reduce it. Please can everybody stop telling people to try and reduce their temperature. Okay it might be necessary if we are talking 39.5 degrees (maybe) but thats another debate.

Obviously the above advice applies to adults only. Babies and children are a different kettle of fish and you should always seek medical advice accordingly.
