Breaking news on Sky re asymptomatic patients

I had a pain inside my nose on Tuesday/weds which sort of felt like I was getting a cold as my nose was blocked. It's become a sinus-type headache and I've felt a bit more tired than usual. Since Thurs/Fri I have lost my sense of smell and taste entirely. I've had no temp and no cough, and I was going to call the GP on Monday to ask for antibiotics for sinusitis. A few hours ago a consultant has said that the loss of the two senses can be a symptom even without a cough/temp. I think there's still so much to learn about this virus. I'm now going to stay in and keep my family in for the requisite time, as I'm 95% sure it is it.

What?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/03/2020 19:50

All you can do is stay indoors for 14 days with everyone you live with, and hope for the best.

I've had no sense of smell since September which I was planning on seeing a GP for before coronavirus arrived. I'll obviously wait til afterwards now - but dh ran to me after seeing the same info suggesting it may be the virus Hmm. Since September? Hardly! Grin

I wish you well.

HerRoyalNotness · 21/03/2020 19:51

It’s quite clear what the OP is talking about!

badg3r · 21/03/2020 19:51

I have heard of friends of friends who have also lost their sème of smell for a week or two and it has been linked up covid-19

Binterested · 21/03/2020 19:51

My boss at work had this ten days ago. He now thinks this is what it was also. If so then I have probably also have had it as we work very closely together. But all I’ve had is a sniffle and some sneezing. Who knows ? At home anyway.

OhLook · 21/03/2020 19:52

What does it have to do with the title though?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/03/2020 19:53

Because she is concerned because of the breaking news.

bobstersmum · 21/03/2020 19:54

I think the only way we'll all know is if we can get this test, it will help lots to know if we've had it or not, and will also help the experts to ascertain whether we can get it again.

OhLook · 21/03/2020 19:56

Sorry. I just can't see the news about this. I was expecting the thread to contain the news, but it seemed to go off on a tangent.

Sorry, I am stressed to the eyeballs as my DD has a fever. I didn't mean to sound off.

Deelish75 · 21/03/2020 19:57

I was listening to someone on the radio this morning. She was recovering from CV and said she'd had a metallic taste in her mouth for a few days as her symptoms started.

TKAAHUARTG · 21/03/2020 20:01

Stay in to protect others but don’t make assertions like this I'm 95% sure it is it. unless you want to offer your amazing —made up— skills to the NHS.

IWantToBreakFreee · 21/03/2020 20:01

I had this around 3 weeks ago, had a couple of days off work, went to doctors as I thought it was sinusitis. Have had it on and off since then.

@nomorepies I'm glad it came back. Eating is one nice thing to do and I feel okie the pleasure has been stolen away!
Don't worry, I'm not offering my expert services to the NHS, whoever suggested I should, I just thought I'd mention it here in case, as the consultant said people with these symptoms only should also follow the self-isolation rules.

@nomorepies thank you for adding the link.

My friend and her family are all recovering from it. Varying degrees of unwell-ness, but all with cough and high temperature. 3 out of 5 have lost their sense of taste.

None have been tested, she's hoping one of her DDs who is a nurse will be tested for antibodies which will confirm it for everyone.

Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 20:16

Lots of people have changes in their taste and smell when they are ill, including a metallic taste - I have in the past. It does't necessarily signify Corona virus.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 20:19

I hope they develop the antibody test soon.

OhLook · 21/03/2020 20:19

Yes, thank you

TheGreatWave · 21/03/2020 20:22

A footballer has tested positive for CV-19 and it was reported that his only symptoms were the loss of smell and taste.

Xenia · 21/03/2020 20:23

That is why we need loads and loads of tests which we can also access without 10 hours waiting on the phone for 111 eg if you could click in 1 second on I need a test and it was posted to you that day and came tomorrow on demand that would help a lot of people with a legal duty then to notify back to the same website if you are positive. My daughter has had a headache for a week and I think it is either precursor for the virus or just a different form of it. On the other hand people with lots of ordinary winter germs might be jumping to conclusions. Only a test will help.

My grocery delivery man son by the way is not tested with a thermometer device every day at work before going out (not that they go into people's homes anyway more with the stuff). If high temp is not the only symptom then using temp might be a waste of time as a check.

CappyCapCap · 21/03/2020 20:25

This is weird, because at work the other day people where saying how strong the smell of the sanitizer was. I and one other person couldnt smell it.

About half an hour ago, I got a glass of lemonade and said to dp that it didnt taste of anything.

5 weeks ago, I ended up in hospital, diagnosed with chest infection and sent home. But I generally feel well now.

On the plus side, I am working from home for at least 3 weeks. Dp, has a potential health issue so we are staying in for that period.

Keepcalmanddoyourbit · 21/03/2020 20:26

@Wallabyone I had this to...exact same symptoms you mention
