I want to start a boycott thread

I’d normally put this in AIBU but it’s a Coronavirus topic so thought I’d save admin the trouble of moving it.

AIBU unreasonable time start a boycott thread...listing all those companies who have behaved abominably to their employees during this time?

This is not the apocalypse, things will get better and at some point these companies are going to want our business and our money - and we get to choose where we spend it.

So, I’ll start with Britannia Hotels and their “admin error” that made their staff homeless:

Also, someone might have already started something similar to this, so if they have feel free to report and get this deleted.

Haart Estate Agents

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/03/2020 22:07

Virgin- run by a man who makes me want to puke. He is worth 4 billion. Just let that sink in for a minute, yet he wants staff to go without pay for 8 weeks.
Sell your private island to pay their wages you repulsive dickhead

HonestlyItsFine · 21/03/2020 22:12

What has Haart done?

Janaih · 21/03/2020 22:13

Haven parks have shut. I was due to go on monday. They were trying to get people to still go up until Friday, with a 25% refund if you turned up, despite the pubs and disco closed. Glad they have shut now and people can get full refunds.
I'm guessing staff arent getting paid though :(

Not sure if this link will work..

excel doc from twitter

If Richard Branson used a billion of his own money he'd still have more than he could ever spend.

I don't want to get into boycotting anyone at the moment, but would sign up to sending warning shot across the bow to these companies about their behaviour and future consequences. Once this disaster is over, I will be thinking very, very carefully about the behaviour of companies during this terrible time and how they behaved when the people of our country faced a very dark time.

In the financial crash we faced off of jobs and financial hardship. This is not even our main priority now. We face sickness and the loss of people we love on top of potential hardship.

We will remember those companies who treated their employees with humanity and when this is all over, we will hammer those who treated us like shit into the ground.

local governments who blatantly disregard government advice and make their employees work in an office when home working can be done. Only problem is we can’t boycott our local government- they have us by the sort and curlies.

Potatobug · 21/03/2020 22:24

I absolutely hate Virgin, it’s a bastard company. Always has been from the get go. So grabby it’s unbelievable. Richard Branson can go fuck himself.

RoseAndRose · 21/03/2020 22:25

But you can vote in a different set of councillors next time. Get people to get emailing the current incumbents now

ADreamOfGood · 21/03/2020 22:29

@HonestlyItsFine Laid people off with no notice (article in guardian)

ADreamOfGood · 21/03/2020 22:30

@Bonkersblond I sincerely hope that is an attempt to be funny?

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 21/03/2020 22:30

Foxtons estate agent who was forcing viewings onto people who were self isolating. Asked them to leave so prospective buyers could view www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/foxtons-coronavirus-covid-19-tenants-letting-self-isolate-a9412516.html

Fedupofballs · 21/03/2020 22:32

We have an Easter trip to a hoseasons Park in Derbyshire. The facilities are obviously closed but the only option is to move to a different date. Many of their parks are in rural areas and with this policy they are encouraging people to go anyway. Everyone really should stay home and not add additional risk to areas with less infrastructure and resource than the cities.

Happygirl79 · 21/03/2020 22:34

Wilkos
Virgin
Both terrible to their staff apparently.
Not supporting them at all
Both privately owned

Shoots pharmacies

QueenofLouisiana · 21/03/2020 22:40

Siblu- parks are shut, owners are stuck there (France is strictly policing travel) with no-one. If they have a problem, phone a random in the nearest village. No mention of refunding the £thousands paid annually by owners, but no staff are being employed by the parks.

KatnissMellark · 21/03/2020 22:40

Jhoots, not shoots

Kalifa · 21/03/2020 22:40

Easyjet. Here’s to them losing a fortune!

everythingisginandroses · 21/03/2020 22:40

@Cheekywifey - I can't read the B&M notice as it comes up too small. Could you give us the gist of it, please?

Cam77 · 21/03/2020 22:48

@MummyPop00
China. Don’t but any cheap tat on eBay from China until they seriously rethink some of their practices.

I’m sure that will terrify them and their $14 trillion economy.

Nat6999 · 21/03/2020 22:48

Any static caravan park, they have closed all the facilities but are still expecting caravan owners to pay the grossly overpriced rent, they don't care that many owners have lost rental income as well as may have had their own wages stopped or cut. At a minimum they could have halved the ground rent for this season, they are saving by not employing staff to run the facilities, entertainments & clean the caravans, why can't they pass the savings on to owners who are struggling to pay their ground rent?

Lifeisabeach09 · 21/03/2020 22:52

I will be making a concerted effort not to buy anything made in China, they were the ones that caused this mess.

^^Viruses can be unleashed anywhere. MERS, for instance. Also, remember when the UK got hammered for BSE/CJD and how it affected industry. Yes, not a virus and transmitted differently but it highlights that this sort of thing can occur anywhere in the world.
