I want to start a boycott thread

I’d normally put this in AIBU but it’s a Coronavirus topic so thought I’d save admin the trouble of moving it.

AIBU unreasonable time start a boycott thread...listing all those companies who have behaved abominably to their employees during this time?

This is not the apocalypse, things will get better and at some point these companies are going to want our business and our money - and we get to choose where we spend it.

So, I’ll start with Britannia Hotels and their “admin error” that made their staff homeless:

Also, someone might have already started something similar to this, so if they have feel free to report and get this deleted.

Good idea - although boycotting companies might just put them in an even worse position, so they’re even less able to support/keep their staff?

UnderHisEyeBall · 21/03/2020 19:18

Virgin for a start.

Jobseeker19 · 21/03/2020 19:19

Topshop

middleager · 21/03/2020 19:19

Wetherspoons
Virgin

middleager · 21/03/2020 19:19

Topshop

myrtleWilson · 21/03/2020 19:19

I think Jack Monroe has one on twitter if you easily wanted to add orgs already collated.

Butterymuffin · 21/03/2020 19:20

Arcadia after Philip Green's dick move towards Top Shop staff

middleager · 21/03/2020 19:21

Boundary Mill has closed but for the past fortnight its marketed hard - its clientelle are mainly over 70s!

RoseAndRose · 21/03/2020 19:23

I tend to agree that this is a bad idea, because it'll only make things worse for employees, and surviving Ines may well need a leg up, not a boycott, even those who got it wrong.

Then I read the thread, changed my mind, and want to shout Wetherspoons.

I saw that interview, fucking disgrace.

coronade · 21/03/2020 19:25

The multi billionaire Richard Branson forcing Virgin staff to take 2 months unpaid leave.
Bet he’s nice and safe on his private island in the Caribbean!

BriefDisaster · 21/03/2020 19:25

I heard Wilko were cutting sick pay.

Falacy · 21/03/2020 19:29

Wetherspoons - absolutely disgraceful comments.

Virgin - absolutely disgraceful way to treat your staff after barely a few weeks of disruption.

30not13 · 21/03/2020 19:50

Parkdean holiday parks.

All facilities closed but because parks are "open" you cannot get a refund .

I'll never book with them again.

Sopissedofwithmyson · 21/03/2020 19:51

Coffee1
Poor man in there was serving customers while I’ll
Told me they don’t give staff sick pay ,if he’s of ill he dosnt get paid just £12 a day from government
You expect that from the shitty companies
But thought coffee1 was better than that

DianaT1969 · 21/03/2020 19:57

Not a boycott, but a well-done. I receive newsletter for non-profit organizations in the community. Martin Lewis donated a large sum of his own money to be used as grants and must be applied for this week so that people in need get urgent help now. 👏

MummyPop00 · 21/03/2020 19:57

China.

Don’t but any cheap tat on eBay from China until they seriously rethink some of their practices.

PeskyRooks · 21/03/2020 20:01

Haven
EasyJet
Definitely Topshop and that fucking idiot Philip Green.
Wetherspoons obvs
Virgin

FuckThisWind · 21/03/2020 20:03

Boundary Mill too. They asked their staff weeks ago to basically fuck off, drop hours or leave. Hopefully they will be covered by the Govts recent promises.

Virgin are cunts ...who knew?!

They always were

BanjoStarz · 21/03/2020 20:16

It’s a valid point that a boycott might harm the employees further, I hadn’t thought of that.

But, I just think there’s so much going on in the news at the moment that companies are getting away with being absolute shits to their employees and the prospect of this being recognised and acted upon when it’s all back to normal might just stop some of them?

Likethebattle · 21/03/2020 21:16

G1 group in Scotland, laid of staff then told them they’ll need to apply for their jobs once things re-open.

BigChocFrenzy · 21/03/2020 21:20

So many ruthless bastards, who can afford to treat their staff decently, but are brutal

Let's remember them

and also the firms who behaved decently to staff and customers

MumofTinies · 21/03/2020 21:23

Parkdean

OntheWaves40 · 21/03/2020 21:27
