Why can people not follow the rules?

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/italy-coronavirus-death-toll-lockdown-uk-self-isolation-social-distancing-a9414581.html
Article about why Italys death toll continues to rise rapidly. Data finds that 40% of people are still leaving their homes.
I just don't understand why people can't follow the rules. Yea sure no one wants to isolate but surely for everyone you would do it?
I have a feeling the UK will go down the same path. Guidelines have been slack. They recommended pubs and clubs etc close. Alot stayed open and people continued going against advice. I really do not get why people don't care and are going against advice and guidance which is in our best interests?
IsolatedIzzy · 21/03/2020 07:49
Loads of pubs posting on my Facebook yesterday about 'One last hurrah' party before we close open until Midnight etc etc . I can't imagine how many people will have got infected last night.
People are stupid, think it doesn't apply to them.
You only have to see how many people are posting on here. I'm going to my mum's, brothers dogs dinner party,
I can't believe people aren't taking this seriously , surely people can understand that the Govt do not bring in the sort of measures they have this week for fun!
KatherineJaneway · 21/03/2020 07:53
Some people have the view they'll get it sooner or later so get it over with.
Megan2018 · 21/03/2020 07:55
If there’s any justice it will be the irresponsible people that get it themselves. It won’t though-they will just infect others.
Fedupandpoor · 21/03/2020 07:59
People just don't think the rules apply to them. My local chemist is only letting people in 3 at a time. A worker is stood next to the door and every time she opens it she's met with prescriptions pushed in her face, people trying to barge in, abuse, one man even put his foot in the door to stop her closing it She's just following the rules, but the impatience and selfishness of other people make it almost impossible.

I think the messages from Boris have been mixed. I know that things are fluid, and fast-moving, but the government daily updates are not helping the situation. Same in the States.
In Ireland, Leo Varadkar, has given two strong statements. And it’s worked. Most folk are doing their bit. The shops & bars are shut. It’s a collective effort, but we got into it quickly.
AuntieStella · 21/03/2020 08:07
I've been reminded of what happened with the roll out of the Boris ban on drinking on the tube.
There was a large drunken binge at the time of introduction. Then it settled down, and is generally well observed and still has public support. No one was berated or prosecuted during the 'last hurrah' binge, but they started doing it more quietly as it settled down. No the tube is a better place for it.
They're using the same behavioural techniques here.
I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the stricter rules for the super-vulnerable are being brought in on Monday (announced a week or so ago). If they had announced at the same time that there would be partial suspension of public transport and a closure of the hospitality and leisure sector, there would have been uproar. But there was a drip feed of 'nothing off the table' (we knew it could happen, we saw it elsewhere) and then a huge swell of calls for stricter measures.
Boris has brought in the strictest ever curtailment of the activities of the British public, and there is little talk about authoritarianism. The criticism that exists is all about how it should have been done faster.
I think they did it at a time they chose a couple of weeks ago, when they first showed us trajectory graphs comparing countries. And have pulled off what was unthinkable even two short weeks ago

The British public and press demanded the daily updates.
VettiyaIruken · 21/03/2020 08:15
Too many people are stupid, selfish and think they are special and they have Really Good Reasons why the rules don't apply to them.
GoldenKirst · 21/03/2020 08:16
I think those that have gone out for one last 'blow out' should forfeit their wages if they have to self isolate. I just don't think it's fair that they are actively taking the risk of catching/spreading
covidisolation · 21/03/2020 08:27
Shame allocation of ventilators cant be based on those who have followed instructions and limited social contact to need only. It is going to be a huge learning curve for some to understand that play dates, beauticians and meals out are not a need. Totally different expectation and understanding in countries like China.
Ineedwine1 · 21/03/2020 11:37
I think people see the decline of deaths in China and think we will go the same way. What they don't realise is China has extremely strict rules and entire cities were completely shut down.
So far this morning I've seen a guy post videos with his mates in McDonald's rolling around on the floor still drunk.
I've seen a guy try to arrange a fitness circuit on the roads of an estate which tons of people saying yea great idea. Clearly a large gathering in a public place which he thinks is great.
I've seen a large house party last night which over 40 people there.
Honestly I'm so baffled.
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/03/2020 11:52
I assume the lockdown will follow in a couple of days when it is clear some people won’t comply.
Randomschoolworker19 · 21/03/2020 11:57
Because a lot of people are stupid.
A lot of people are selfish or think the rules don't apply to themselves.
I spent all of yesterday at work delivering learning packs to children's homes and checking up on our vulnerable children on free school meals etc.
Had some parents trying to lie or blag their way onto the key worker list because they can't bare the thought of looking after their kids and want free child care. Those same parents are also the ones who think their children can't do any wrong at school....
feelingverylazytoday · 21/03/2020 12:07
It's not just Britain, it's happening every where. In Iran people are ignoring government pleas to stay at home for their New year celebration.
Greendin · 21/03/2020 12:09
I don't think that a lot people watch or pay attention to the news and that it will take a while for the information to filter down to them.
BabyGsMummynow · 21/03/2020 12:23
I live in a seaside town and it’s busy with tourists 🤦🏻♀️ I’m also a key worker and it’s really infuriating that people are choosing to ignore all the advice and come here.
Ineedwine1 · 21/03/2020 12:27
@randomschoolworker19 how did they try blag it? That's awful, they should take a look at themselves as parents.
@babygsmummynow is it Southwold by any chance? Saw about it in the paper and said it was really busy as people were going to 2nd homes from London. Again selfish, this isn't a jolly or holiday to the coast
Lynda07 · 21/03/2020 12:28
People are sometimes ridiculous. They might be alright but they risk infecting others, it's so selfish.
I enjoyed a bit of fresh air as I was getting the milk in this morning and received something from the postman :-). That's my ration for the day, it won't kill me.
BabyGsMummynow · 21/03/2020 12:33
No it’s not down south, sounds like it’s everywhere 🤷🏻♀️
onalongsabbatical · 21/03/2020 12:34
I never, ever, ever thought I'd say this and I'm shocked at myself - but I begin to see the point of authoritarian regimes.
It's awful.
Ineedwine1 · 21/03/2020 12:34
Thing is they will ruin it for us who are following the guidelines. Some of us are having a nice daytime stroll to get out but this probably won't be allowed soon because people aren't listening and sticking to the rules
Galvantula · 21/03/2020 12:34
Folk off to the Highlands and Islands in caravans and campers, there's much less infection up there you know. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
