Now I really am scared

The provisions that the government are making indicate to me that either they are afraid of rioting (which occurs when a population loses faith in the government) or the Corona crisis is going to go on for at least a year.

Closing the pubs and venues has really brought it home to me how bad this is. I am self isolating, just nearing the end of my first week after social distancing for the previous two weeks, so I thought that I had come to terms with it. But it has hit me again listening to this press conference and quite frankly, I am afraid.

@TheLadyAnneNeville thank you! Will try spider potion ASAP. And I’m sorry for your loss, that feeling when someone just isn’t there anymore sucks most at times like these Flowers

JorisBonson · 20/03/2020 20:59

I actually feel a lot calmer tonight.

Maybe it's because I broke out the prosecco.

IrisAtwood · 20/03/2020 21:01

I also recommend a cat for dealing with spiders. She sees them before me and before I know it they’re gone!

IrisAtwood · 20/03/2020 21:07

@JorisBonson It’s strange how a drink helps isn’t it? I’m considering setting up a study to see which alcohol and how many drinks is most effective.

@Reginabambina I hope that fucker is dead too - for its sake! Or maybe you could just explain to it that your socially distancing so would it mind leaving the room?

TheLadyAnneNeville · 20/03/2020 21:08

My cat is utterly useless with spiders. The dog paws them a bit and barks. Useless!

I mix a little lavendar oil with the oil of cloves so that it doesn’t always remind me of the dentist.

Reginabambina · 20/03/2020 21:11

@IrisAtwood best Coronavirus joke I’ve heard this week and I have heard an awful lot (it’s been a really really long week!)

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 21:15

Did you know stress lowers the immune system @thepeopleversuswork? Biscuit and so does social isolation. Oh dear.

Casino218 · 20/03/2020 21:16

When we come out of the other side of this people will go mental. Divorce husbands, spend vast amounts of money, fly all over the world! It's going to be mental!

TheLadyAnneNeville · 20/03/2020 21:17

EVERYTHING is bad for us 😂. I’m flip pin’ amazed we’ve come this far as a species!

JorisBonson · 20/03/2020 21:17

@IrisAtwood I think that's a very important experiment you're undertaking there!

If you need a research assistant I'm happy to help Gin

thepeopleversuswork · 20/03/2020 21:32

RuffleCrow and your point is? are you suggesting that if we all get out and shake it out a bit, do a bit more headspace, take some echinacea we'll be right as reign?

Do you think that the "stress relief" you get from going out and knocking back a few wines with your mates will magically allow your immune system to fight off a virus which it won't ever have seen before?

Do you understand that the whole point about immunity is that it develops in response to exposure and that the reason people are dying from this virus is that no one has immunity?

Or are you too selfish to understand that when the government of a liberal democracy shouts at you with a megaphone to stay indoors it is a sign that times aren't normal and you would do well to fucking listen to them? Because if you don't, people will die.

I despair.

IrisAtwood · 20/03/2020 21:35

@IrisAtwood I think we need as much data as we can get, so the more participants the better!

@Reginabambina Thank you 😊

@TheLadyAnneNeville To be honest spiders are the only thing that the cat catches, well those and fleas.

OP posts:
IrisAtwood · 20/03/2020 21:38

@thepeopleversuswork I don’t think Ruffle was suggesting going out partying, it was just the comment about alcohol and immunity missed the spirit of the posts (no pun intended).

Joe Rogan had Michael Osterman (a virologist) on last week and he said: “I’m not trying to scare you out of your wits, I’m trying to scare you into your wits”.

A society scared of this virus is a good thing - even though feeling so scared is horrible.

I don’t think I’m in any of the vulnerable categories, but even so....

thepeopleversuswork · 20/03/2020 21:40

Iris RuffleCrow fair enough. I'm wrapped a bit tight today.

[climbs back under rock]

Ponoka7 · 20/03/2020 21:45

I want the government to increase measures. I was disappointed that the man who didn't follow isolation isn't going to be prosecuted.

I've had two sets of 'words' today over giving space.

People are going to be out with their children next week and we'll be forced into lock down. But I don't mind and will feel safer.

I'm not having a drink because of possible anxiety when sobering up.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 21:50

Oh my goodness @thepeopleversuswork i'm not sure a single glass of wine (see previous post) is going to cut it for you. Valium, maybe.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 20/03/2020 21:51

I've stopped watching/reading the news for a bit. Each time I start to feel a little bit better it scares the crap out of me again.
I can't do what I need to do right now if I'm so scared I want to cry all the time. I need to try to be ok for my ds. I need to try to reassure him that it's all going to be ok even though I don't think it will be.

I'm now facing a minimum of 3 months alone with an 8 year old. Literally alone. Mine and ds mental health are going to take a battering and that's without the worry of whether I will be able to get food for us and whether I will be able to afford food for us at all.
He was getting fsm. That's now gone. The only option is for me to eat even less than I already do.
We have 1 toilet roll left. I went to all the shops near me today to try and get some. The only place with any left had put the price up to £10.99 for cheap shitty stuff. I didn't buy it because I need to save what money i have to buy food.

Honestly, I don't think we're going to get through this. And now I'm crying again.

HonestlyItsFine · 20/03/2020 21:57

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin what general area are you in? If it's near me, I have spare bog roll. I'm SE England, which will narrow down if you are anywhere near me or not!

Forza14 · 20/03/2020 22:00

@Rory

You WILL get through this. You WILL.

There are no shortages of anything...it’s all panic buying. That will slow down & the shops will start rationing people. You’ll be able to get what you need very soon, I am sure. (£10.99 for loo roll is shocking. I hope when this is sorted arsehole profiteers like that will be shunned).

Physically, you and your son will very, very, very likely only get a mild illness, if you get it at all. I think figures will soon show that far more people have the virus than we realise, but most don’t even get a sore throat (like Idris Elba).

As far as socialising - forums!

You’ll be OK so chin up.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 20/03/2020 22:05

Thank you so much for the offer Honestly. Its so kind of you to want to help.
For now we'll be fine and hopefully the shops will get back to normal soon, or whatever normal is now!
I was so disgusted that this shop had hiked up the price of the normally cheap stuff.

I'll never shop in there again no matter what.

Littlepeak34 · 20/03/2020 22:05

Sad thing is for the friends/family of people who die won’t even be able to have a proper gathering/funeral to say their goodbyes.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 20/03/2020 22:07

Thank you Forza. Tonight is a bad one. Tomorrow will be better.

HooverVacuum · 20/03/2020 22:11

I wonder if the closing of pubs and bars combined with stress and anxiety will lead to more heavy drinking.

Alcohol consumed at home is cheaper and a quick stress reliever.

There is bound to be a massive increase in domestic violence. This is not a good time.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 22:12

If only we were all as fit as Idris Elba. This virus wouldn't stand a chance Wink
