Seriously the PM is not going to put london on lock down? Is he ok though 🧐 most deaths are in london.. to the point they have extended the morgue!

He may as well say

We are all going to get the virus in the next 12 weeks and if you die well bad luck! Sorry 😐

Obviously he’s following the advice of his advisors. If everybody follows the rules we won’t need lockdown. If they don’t it will follow.

NoBoojustNo · 19/03/2020 17:36

I thought he was doing well the first couple of days. But after watching this evening I'm of the opinion he's an utter bellend and they're all well out of their depth.

covetingthepreciousthings · 19/03/2020 17:36

I'm just watching it in utter disbelief. My local market town was busy, no one was paying attention to these guidelines!!

vera99 · 19/03/2020 17:38

If only Mumsnet was advising the government instead of decades schooled Professors at the peak of their expertise.

Lordfrontpaw · 19/03/2020 17:39

What did I miss?

0007floosie · 19/03/2020 17:39

How is he going to turn this around in 13 weeks!! without drastic measures Hmm generally hes thinking we are a very obedient lot and will comply. Kids are off school. Keeping them in will be a big challenge...yeah good luck with that one!! Still have learnt nothing from other countries that are having trouble containing this. More people are needlessly going to die before he will make drastic action..

KenDodd · 19/03/2020 17:42

My local market town was busy, no one was paying attention to these guidelines!!

Maybe they listened when this lot were deriding experts and calling them 'doomsters and gloomsters'. So, in fact they have listened to this government.

Borisdaspide · 19/03/2020 17:46

He's a coward.

If only Mumsnet was advising the government instead of decades schooled Professors at the peak of their expertise.

The experts are telling them people shouldn't be in cafes etc, which he's translating to the public as a request rather than absolute necessity.

0007floosie · 19/03/2020 17:52

Today is worse than the 'herd mentaity' idea he had last week. Confused

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/03/2020 17:54

I honestly don't think that closing schools is going to make a blind bit of difference if social distancing isn't enforced.

0007floosie · 19/03/2020 17:54

'Immunity' not mentality Grin

PeterPanGoesWrong · 19/03/2020 17:55

It’s ridiculous to expect people to self isolate, not rush off to their holiday cottage or stay off from work when he’s not making it a requirement but a request.
They let the screaming masses self police at the supermarkets and look how well that’s turned out!
For pities sake Boris, enforce the closure of gyms, pubs, Brownies/scouts, all shops that are not food or medicine. People are not taking this seriously enough.

LadyLuna16 · 19/03/2020 17:56

He was truly awful tonight. Like this was some jolly that we'll get over soon enough. Where are the adults leading us?

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 19/03/2020 17:59

We've not had the daily figures for the cases either. I guess we don't need to know Hmm

TheReluctantCountess · 19/03/2020 18:00

I just cannot have faith in BJ. The way he was asking if these sessions were useful or not. It was like he was saying he couldn’t be bothered to do them.

LambriniSocialist · 19/03/2020 18:01

Why are people such selfish fucks though? Why aren't people social distancing? The advice is clear.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 19/03/2020 18:03

I wonder if it's because there aren't enough police to enforce it.

Duchessofblandings · 19/03/2020 18:06

I do t like him, have never voted conservative.

The problem is the great British public will fully ignoring the very clear advice. It will be friends, family and neighbours that will kill each other.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/03/2020 18:07

It is clear that Boris needs to be clearer. Social distancing is not happening: gym. Pool, Costa etc open where I am.
We cannot beat this in 12 weeks as most people are not adjusting their behaviour.
Some are critical of the Chinese’s approach, but when people are so naive to think they can still go out for a coffee it is safer for all of us to take choices away.

Fartintheloft · 19/03/2020 18:07

It’s like he is still going with Herd Immunity, but letting the public do it to themselves!

Too many people don’t seem to understand. I don’t know if they don’t watch the news, or .... I don’t know, I just give up. I have seen so many pubs saying they are staying open ‘for their public’, one even saying they have been busier than normal and thanking their community. Hmm

Then lots of people saying they think it’s the media over dramatising things. I just don’t get it.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/03/2020 18:07

Chinese approach - horrible random apostrophe there!

EstuaryBird · 19/03/2020 18:09

PeterPanGoesWrong. All Scouting (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, .Explorers) has been suspended until further notice since Monday.

Mlou32 · 19/03/2020 18:17

We shouldn't need to lock down. The guidance is clear and people should be adhering to it. Ridiculous that people can't just do as requested, especially in regards to such a grave situation.

We as a society need to start questioning when we see people flouting the guidelines. It's for everyone's safety.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/03/2020 18:18

Lockdown will be inevitable if this behaviour continues,

TheLadyAnneNeville · 19/03/2020 18:18

The message is still not getting through, is it?

And BJ looked lost. He didn’t answer some of the questions and went into “we’re all going to get through this!” guff.

Dear oh dear.
