For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

Mine has also been cancelled - including my Fetch order, which is more irritating as now I need to go and track down cat food (I'd assumed that part would be fine although that's probably a bit naive). And like others, it was a fairly bog standard order, not a panic buying one. Now I need to go into the website to work what I'd ordered so I can go and get it elsewhere. Grr.

Think companies should prioritise long term customers who pay yearly upfront (like us). Been with Asda paying this way for the last 3 years.

Pissed off that I’m fighting for slots with Johnny come lately all of a sudden & will be emailing them to say so. One typical weekly shop, that’s all I need, I’m not asking a lot and ordering 300x dried pasta every other day like all the loons

So someone elderly who has never shopped online before because they enjoy the experience of going to the supermarket and chatting to the cashiers shouldn't be allowed to shop online when they are most at risk simply because they haven't been doing it as long as you?! That is a seriously worrying train of thought to be on and indicates a concerning level of self-interest that doesn't place you too far from 'all the loons'.

Herpesfreesince03 · 16/03/2020 10:32

My Asda shop was cancelled. It did actually say out of stock of most goods with no possible substitutions for missing items

ChrisPrattsFace · 16/03/2020 10:33

We had a click and collect for Saturday, half of the shopping was unavailable. Ours comes from the store direct so we had to go in and find alternatives.
I’m not panic buying, but I wish I had before now! I can’t even get a normal shop, very frustrating when you’re trying not to feed in the hysteria.

Message on Orcado

Please note, that in this time of unusual demand, we have made the call to temporarily prioritise deliveries for existing registered customers. We will not be processing new customer bookings for the time being.
We are very sorry to have to disappoint anyone that chooses Ocado, and we’re working hard to increase our delivery capacity.

ConferencePear · 16/03/2020 10:35

This is worrying. These posts made me look at my current order and several items which were available when I ordered have been been deleted as unavailable. I am trying to self isolate, but this will force me to actually go to the shop. I'm a regular customer too.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 10:36

Considering I pay £1.99 for my Ocado smart pass, (have paid that for years) I really don’t think my order is any more important. If they cancel it’s for good reason.

poppymatilda · 16/03/2020 10:36

I've given up on trying to get an online shop. DH has a car so we're going to go to the supermarket later in the week. We live in London so a lot of our neighbors don't drive so we're going to offer to get some stuff for them too

Lochroy · 16/03/2020 10:37

@ConferencePear If you need to self isolate, then you can't just go to the shop!

PumpkinP · 16/03/2020 10:38

Lochroy So what do you expect people to do then if they don’t have shopping in and their online order is cancelled. Confused

ConferencePear · 16/03/2020 10:39

I should have said this is Tesco and I was not asking for toilet rolls.

DameXanaduBramble · 16/03/2020 10:41

Please remember that it’s immaterial whether or not you’re a regular customer at this time. There’s no system that can differentiate.

hoorayforharoldlloyd · 16/03/2020 10:41

Heard someone yesterday explaining they will have to end inline food delivery as they will need staff for shops as virus worsens.

Nanasueathome · 16/03/2020 10:44

Ocado is delivered from a warehouse, not a store

Lochroy · 16/03/2020 10:44

@PumpkinP I wish I could answer or help, but I can't. This is the craziness of the government saying they're working with supermarkets and a load of other bull.

Bloody hell. This takes entitled to another level altogether Hmm

Are you actually seriously suggesting, in unprecedented times of need, that your delivery saver is a top trump Confused

Fuck, not a lot shocks me, but this is right up there in the table of things that have managed.

ConferencePear · 16/03/2020 10:46

Apparently Lochroy thinks I should sit here and starve.

WhataMissMap · 16/03/2020 10:46

I’m adding neighbours’ orders on to my order. All my neighbours are in their eighties. We had fun last week apportioning everyone’s orders over the garden wall. It was like playing shop.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/03/2020 10:46

DH went to Sainsbury's first thing this morning - he said the staff picking out stuff for online orders were there in force, if he'd not been early there would have been bare shelves for a couple of the items he wanted to get. I'm sure they'll be restocking through the day.

PumpkinP · 16/03/2020 10:47

I’m a lone parent, I don’t have any family that are in a position to help. I’m relying on my Tesco’s shops, if it doesn’t come then I will have to go out as I will need to feed my kids. Luckily I’m not self isolating yet but if I was I would have no choice. I’m now worried about my slot since a lot are now being cancelled.

MummyPop00 · 16/03/2020 10:47

Didn’t think it would take the MN mafioso to start piling in.

Reason we are online shoppers who pay upfront is we have two disabilities in the household.

That ok?

So yes, I think people with disabilities AND who pay upfront for over 3 years should have priority.

Also FYI, we have offered to add to our shop for our 81 & 96 year old near Neighbours.

So, all the self-righteous sheep can kiss the starboard side of my arse to be blunt.

The email has gone to Asda.

Nameofchanges · 16/03/2020 10:49

Before any of this started, I have had orders cancelled in the past because Tesco drivers rang in sick.

The Tesco delivery man I last spoke to said sometimes orders don’t get delivered due to customers abusing the delivery drivers. The delivery driver then can’t finish his shift.

So I have my fingers crossed that my order is going to turn up during Coronavirus, but I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

PumpkinP · 16/03/2020 10:49

It’s not me I’m worried about it’s my children. Not everyone has a great set of neighbours who will go out and do their shopping. Mine have never spoken to me, mind you they are mostly all elderly anyway so wouldn’t be in a position to help.

Februarycat · 16/03/2020 10:50

Just been on Sainsburys to do my usual online food shop and all slots gone for the next 3 weeks. I don't drive so means a long walk to Aldi one day this week, but at least I can get out, feel sorry for those that can't walk and rely on the online service.

SheldonSaysSo1 · 16/03/2020 10:51

I have a Tesco delivery for Wednesday so fingers crossed it comes. I tried to arrange one for next week and can't find a slot with any supermarket.
