For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

I must admit I'm worried about what will happen if we go to lockdown. I know supermarkets will remain open but I cant physically walk round one to do a shop. I hope deliveries are still allowed

Nammech111 · 17/03/2020 19:33

Where I am its 2 week wait for deliveries. Most stuff out of stock to order too. Soon wont be able to keep up with demand

Redglitter · 17/03/2020 19:36

Soon wont be able to keep up with demand

Soon?? I think were well past that stage at the moment

Nammech111 · 17/03/2020 19:44

Just went on my online shop thats getting delivered tomorrow and barely anything is available 😢😢😢 dam.

Onandonandons · 17/03/2020 19:45

My sainsbury's order was cancelled on the day it was due. I didn't bother to try to rebook as we can get to the shops. They didn't give me a reason. I assumed it was staff shortages.

Holdencaulfieldshomeboy · 17/03/2020 19:50

My online shopping comes tomorrow-hopefully. I'm a single mum with a disabled child and I'm a full time carer to my mum who has to self isolate. If my delivery gets cancelled I will have to walk 3 miles to the nearest supermarket. Asking my neighbours if they need anything adding to my order/picking up if I have to go.

alliwantforchristmasis · 17/03/2020 19:51

As an ex Tesco shopping picker, yes people walk around the shop taking your food off the shelves. But if there isn't what you wanted to be delivered then they can't pick it for you so they will cancel your order and ask you to re order but you still might not get it as the shelves are empty as everyone is panic buying. If we all only bought what we needed instead of stockpiling there would have been enough for everyone to get their shopping. Panic buying isnt helping anyone.

Hally2020 · 17/03/2020 19:51

Completely agree with you @Vallderama. The elderly, vulnerable and those in self isolation need helping right now. I've been told by 111 to self isolate as I'm showing symptoms and am diabetic, am I not entitled to use home delivery the @MummyPop00? Nice attitude!

Itsonlymeeee · 17/03/2020 19:56

I have inflammatory rheumatoid arthritis that for the past 5 years has been drug resistant therefore has progressed rapidly & means my inflammatory markers are always high. I also have to take a drug each week that kills off my immune system. My husband has diabetes. But yeah you're absolutely right, fuck people like us who don't do regular on line shopping. So long as you get yours Jack.

Who has said that to you?

OP what a shocking attitude. I usually shop online weekly as I don't drive and have had a few substitutions in last week's shop, not a problem. I usually pop into my local supermarket for a top up of fresh veg, milk and bread to keep us going. However for the last three days the shelves have becoming increasingly bare - no fresh meat, hardly any fresh produce, tinned and frozen food decimated, no toilet roll and no antibacterial gels/wipes for two weeks. I now fear that there will be nothing in my online shop this week and nothing in the shops to buy either. I feel sorry for staff and delivery drivers facing abuse on a daily basis. The only people to blame are the people stockpiling for the sake of it rather than a real need - they're causing great distress to those that are the most vulnerable. At the moment I am able to keep popping in on my way to/from work but should we have to self isolate then I don't know what we will do.

wondering7777 · 17/03/2020 20:17

I spoke too soon about Zooplus - I've just had an email from them saying to expect delays Sad Luckily I placed the order about a week before my current stock runs out, but I hope it arrives in time...

FelicisNox · 17/03/2020 20:18

There's no stock and this is as much to do with Brexit as it is panic buying.

We noticed a decline in stock in both Morrison's and Aldi months ago, the Coronavirus panic buyers are adding to an existing problem.

But then this is what happens when you leave the EU with no decent trade deals in place and you live in a country that imports more than it exports.

As far as I'm concerned all those who voted for Brexit should be at the back of the queue and I don't want to hear one word of complaint.

Dongdingdong · 17/03/2020 20:30

Total rubbish. I've been able to get anything I want in the shops until this virus hit.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/03/2020 20:42

Check your little shops. Nisa in Coventry has plenty of supplies, and also most of the One Stops are ok.

snoopiij · 17/03/2020 20:46

I just tried to do an online morrisons shop nothing till the 6th april and every time I put stuff in my basket it was deleted as out of stock ffs that's week's in front surely they keep their warehouses stocked up? what are people supposed to do if they are self isolating? that's crazy someone needs to pull their finger out and do something about it!!

Drivemybluecar · 17/03/2020 20:48

@FelicisNox utter rubbish. Seriously. Brexit. Nothing to do with the virus spreading through the world ?

snoopiij · 17/03/2020 20:52

you can't get anything from morrisons online till 6th april and then everything I needed was out of stock don't they think they will be stocked up by then? so it means a bus ride then a taxi home if there is anything left on the shelves and I will shop as early as I can to see something on the shelves ffs we will be having ration books like in the war at this rate, think ya'll can manage on 2 oz of butter a week and a pack of bacon?

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/03/2020 21:03

My Morrisons app has deliveries from March 23rd. It depends where you live.

rainbowbear10 · 17/03/2020 22:08

Our local Tesco staff were stocking shelves at 8am this morning. folk were taking it as soon as they unpacked the boxes ... hardly anything left on the shelves not just the food, loo paper, hand soap. baby essentials A lady last night was raiding the shelves of Sanitary towels not one pack left for anyone else who might have actually needed them today

Alena03 · 17/03/2020 22:50

If your driver call in sick, the order will be cancelled ASAP, mostly with explanation, but we are BUSY, so it’s just how it is.
Sorry I’m working on online department at the moment( they have to put extra hours because delivery volume though the roof).

turkishrose · 17/03/2020 23:55

I can't get a slot at all after my delivery which is due on Thursday but unsure it it will come. I have been a loyal sainsburys online grocery customer for years now and never had a problem until now. I just renewed my annual pass and the service is non existent. Will Sainsburys refund the pass if they cannot honor the service they sold me? Does my customer loyalty count for nothing, why are long term customers not being prioritized? I'd understand if they were prioritizing those sick and disabled but they just take the money and run. On their twitter they just post and repost the same answer.

I am disabled and in the high risk catagory told to stay in from now on but sainsburys are no use at all.

alloutoffucks · 17/03/2020 23:57

Why are Sainsburys not limiting products?

carnivalisover · 18/03/2020 00:07

Half a Tesco order delivered tonight, loads of substitutions too.

Was just a regular week shop - fresh veg/meat, tonic water, hadn’t ordered store cup’d or toiletries/cleaning stuff etc.

We are trying not to go out at all, (health issues) but will have to now.

amispeakingenglish · 18/03/2020 00:37

Drycoughadviceujuju THere are Facebook and whats app groups set up in local areas with volunteers getting shopping for older and vulnerable people. My Dad has had someone drop off a Sainsbury shop. Very nice kind woman. Check it out in your area.
