For fuck sake. My whole ocado shop for today has been cancelled. Generally speaking it's tricky for us to get to the shops but by some rare stroke of luck my partner had to bring the car home this weekend (usually kept at his parents many miles away). Thankfully we'll be able to drive to the shops but what about those who can't? People in self isolation or those who have to rely on online shops for other reasons? Slots aren't available until next week, midweek at the earliest!

I've been telling myself to stay calm, only buy what we need, don't add to the problem of shops being out of stock. But now I'm panicking it's really hard to stick to that. I'm now not sure if I'll be able to hold back from panic buying now. We have barely any food in the house and usually we only get enough to last us a week but I think I'll have to stock up on two weeks worth now. We might end up not even being able to get anything today due to shelves being bare.

Those who fall into the vulnerable categories who require shielding should most definitely have priority

SjogrensCVQuestion · 17/03/2020 13:30

Amazon are offering (and that means telling) their staff 60 hours overtime and upping wages by £2 an hour.

wondering7777 · 17/03/2020 13:38

Could those in these queues just go out to a shop instead if they are not in quarantine?

I'm 33 weeks pregnant so want to avoid the supermarkets at all costs right now if I can.

Has anyone had a delivery from Ocado today and have you had any missing items?

Xenia · 17/03/2020 13:54

Might be a good time to make the husbands of the pregnant wives get the shopping for a change in that case!

Babysharkdoodoodood · 17/03/2020 14:17

My Morrisons is on time and only one (sensible) substitution. Just need to re-organise freezer to fit it in.

Lllot5 · 17/03/2020 14:30

I had my Tesco delivery yesterday. One substitution, I ordered chicken soup I received chicken and mushroom instead. No problem.

Nanasueathome · 17/03/2020 14:33

I had an Ocado delivery this morning.
Scheduled between 9.30 and 10.30 and came at 9.40
Only thing missing was Panadol...I’d ordered them as no paracetamol available when I placed the order

1980sQueen · 17/03/2020 14:40

I can't get a Tesco order for my mum now.
All slots fully booked for the next 3 weeks!
I will have to see if another family member can go to the shops for her as I'm now stuck at home with the children.
It's an absolute nightmare for everyone!

Baaaahhhhh · 17/03/2020 14:59

I getcat food from the local "snack and tack" farm type shop, they also sell fruit and veg, so I am hopeful they will stay open. I understand obviously, not everyone has these, especially in a city, and I suppose we are really, really lucky round here to have these alternatives. No village shop in our actual location, but a few farm shops, Co-ops, Budgens and petrol stations with Waitrose and Sainsburys Locals within 5 minutes drive. These all seem to be fine, so if my Waitrose order doesn't arrive, or doesn't have much in it, I will be travelling around for extras from our local shops.

DD1 is coming back home from London this week, everyone in her flat share are coming home, they are locking up and going to work from home, so we will need more supplies. The plus side is I can also send her out for supplies Grin.

viccat · 17/03/2020 15:28

I'm worried about my Ocado delivery, it's due 4-5pm today and currently it says "we are preparing your order" on the website. Surely it should be out for delivery by now if it's due in 30 minutes? I don't live that close to their depot. Haven't had a text or email from them as I usually do either. Sad

NervousInYorkshire · 17/03/2020 15:32

My 12-1 Morrison's order still hasn't arrived

I hope it's just late, as I got the 'we have everything you wanted in your order/Colin will be arriving later' etc texts earlier.

Nothing from them, still showing as 'on it's way' online.

So far I've been waiting half an hour in their phone queue...
Starting to worry a little bit..

KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2020 15:40

Hope both of you get your orders

NervousInYorkshire · 17/03/2020 15:58

Apparently the delivery driver had no reply when they turned up (to what I can only assume was the wrong address), and didn't bother to try phoning.
They're going to try again this evening - fingers crossed.

The guy on the phone was telling me about how we're all going to have to work together to get Britain fed, it's going to be like wartime, choice will be severely restricted, he's speaking to lots of people in vulnerable groups with no friends or family who are very scared and not everyone realises that when they're placing their orders...

I burst into tears at that point because I'm in one of the vulnerable groups with no friends/family to help out.

@viccat hope it arrives - keep us posted.

Mine is due tomorrow morning - I will update if/when it gets here...

viccat · 17/03/2020 16:23

Mine now says "Some of our deliveries are running late today. We don't know if your order will be affected yet, but we'll update your status here if it is." Sad

I won't starve imminently if it doesn't arrive but this whole thing is making me feel much more vulnerable I've ever felt. I live alone and don't drive, and have always felt I can get everything delivered. My last Ocado order 10 days ago had missing items, then the Amazon Fresh order I got to get some of those things didn't arrive at all and now this. More worried about the cats than me at the moment as well, if we run out of their food and litter.

Lordfrontpaw · 17/03/2020 16:24

My wine delivery site is no longer delivering...

Xenia · 17/03/2020 17:15

Amazon is hiring 100,000 more staff in the US to keep up with demand and in the UK there is a lot of paid over time for Amazon workers too so not a disaster for everyone work wise currently.

viccat · 17/03/2020 17:40

My Ocado order has arrived, about half an hour late and with 7 missing items - including cat litter (again! not been able to get any since 3rd March now), cat food and bread. Feeling quite worried about what's to come as it seems things are getting worse not better for a long while.

singledadstu · 17/03/2020 17:43

Uber and deliveroo (I think), are in talks with the government to put in place special deliveries to older people during this emergency. Fingers crossed that it finds its way quickly to happening. If you know of elder people and are concerned it might be worth keeping an eye out for this announcement in particular

urkidding · 17/03/2020 17:43

In Taiwan: Check points at office buildings, night markets, bus stops and schools take the temperature of those entering and spray their hands with alcohol. Buses and taxis have clipboards showing how many times they have been disinfected that day. Here nothing is done.

Stinginthetail · 17/03/2020 17:44

Same happened to me with Ocado yesterday morning for 'operational reasons'. I bloody spent ages on Sunday finalising the order too.

Goingtogetflamed · 17/03/2020 17:46

@MummyPop00
ODFOD I don’t normally online shop but am now self-isolating and living with someone who has clear symptoms. Should I risk everyone else in the supermarket and go myself rather than take “your” slot? It would certainly be easier for me to go to the shop than wait for a delivery but that’s not really the point.

Mumgonenuts2020 · 17/03/2020 17:47

I got this email from Ocado today: mine is due Thursday..

our service isn’t running as smoothly as you’re used to at the moment. Like all supermarkets, we are working round the clock to keep up with high demand and make sure everyone gets what they need. We may not always get it perfectly right but we are trying our best. Thank you for bearing with us.
I’d also like to take this chance to thank our amazing drivers and warehouse staff who are working tirelessly to deliver groceries to as many people as possible in these uncertain times. Their dedication and hard work is truly amazing.
Naturally, the safety and wellbeing of everyone connected to Ocado remains our priority. We will continue to follow the latest advice from the Government and the World Health Organisation while the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation continues.
These are some of the changes we’ve put in place so far:
Receiving a delivery. Your driver will knock and greet you as normal, but they will then place the bags on your doorstep. They will no longer be carrying them into your home or handing them to you directly. Also, please do not hand any used bags back, they will not be able to take them.
Placing an order in advance. Delivery slots are selling a lot faster than usual, so we suggest booking one or more ahead of time to avoid disappointment. We are releasing further delivery slots as soon as they become available. Don’t forget, slots are bookable up to three weeks in advance.
We’ve switched off the app. Due to performance issues driven by continued high demand, we have decided to keep our app offline for the time being. In the meantime, please shop on our website instead.
Managing the flow to the website. We have also launched a new queueing system on the website to manage the increased demand. This will help us to give you the best shopping experience possible under the current circumstances. If you see a page saying you’re in a virtual queue just sit tight, don’t close or refresh the page or you’ll lose your place.
There’s enough for everyone. We continue to see high demand for certain products as customers are choosing to stock up. To help with fair distribution, we’ve temporarily limited some products to one or two items per order. We are working closely with suppliers to restock products regularly so all customers get what they’ve ordered each time they shop.
Those are just some of the changes we’ve put in place to help manage in these extraordinary times, and it’s important to remember that we’re in this together. To quote this week’s joint announcement from all of us supermarkets together, “we would ask everyone to be considerate in the way they shop. We understand your concerns but buying more than is needed can sometimes mean that others will be left without. There is enough for everyone if we all work together”.
Here are a few ways you can make a big difference at the moment:
• Only buy what you need, there’s enough for everyone. That will help us to make sure everybody gets what they need.
• Share deliveries with neighbours if you can. The continued high demand means delivery slots are selling out very fast, so sharing a delivery could be helpful. Also remember to look out for vulnerable people you may be able to help.
• Try not to make last-minute edits to your order. Even better, place your order in one go and only make edits if you must.
• Make sure you’re at home when your delivery is due. This may seem like an obvious one, but if you’re not there to receive your order it’s unlikely we’ll be able to redeliver and the fresh food will go to waste. Frozen food may get wasted too.
• Follow the guidelines carefully. If you’re in self isolation, it is essential that you notify us in your driver notes as you check out your order. We ask you to remain inside your home when your shopping arrives. Your driver will leave the shopping bags on your doorstep.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2020 17:47

@viccat cat litter has been in short supply for a long time everywhere. It was due to one of the major suppliers not being able to source some of the stuff in it.
