Spain, France and now Germany (about to go) in lockdown, so when will we? And when will the schools close? I'm guessing it will be Tuesday/Wednesday time. It's looking inevitable now.

OP posts:

I think we should have an announcement by Wednesday. Or at least I hope we will.

It is indeed, fireflower, we'll know when there is an announcement on the news.

WomanIsTaken · 15/03/2020 17:12

Ah, Warrior, I suspect my school will be one asked to stay open; city centre and within easy walking distance of three large hospitals. Makes sense.

MaomiMak · 15/03/2020 17:14

Hopefully not at all

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/03/2020 17:15

I think it will be Friday if not earlier that schools close, but not sure when we will go into 'lockdown'.

I actually spoke to someone who said they just think schools want to close so they can have extra time off Shock

peoplepleaser1 · 15/03/2020 17:19

Please be careful with uncorroborated news stories.

The press done quite know what is happening next so many are speculating and making it sound like fact.

lubeybooby · 15/03/2020 17:21

our plans seems to be to isolate the elderly and vulnerable instead of closing schools

WinterCat · 15/03/2020 17:23

I think Friday will be the last day before Easter. Potentially they might not open again until the next academic year.

CricketCrocket · 15/03/2020 17:27

I’m hoping soon. I work in a large school and we have many staff in the ‘at risk’ category and/or over 60.

We’ve already got a lot of staff self isolating, if it carries on the way it’s going then we won’t be able to keep students safe as the staff:student ratio will be so low.

Babyroobs · 15/03/2020 17:28

I expect it to be soon. Just checking my three teenagers have laptops that are working ok to receive online work etc and hoping they would work unsupervised whilst me and dh are at work. DH ( high risk) is looking to re-arrange his working day so that he can be at work when others aren't do essential maintenance ( IT ).

When they work out the legalities of how to close other childcare providers without setting precedents that bankrupt the Treasury.

fedup21 · 15/03/2020 17:29

That TES story is the only thing I’ve seen to suggest it’s happening at all.

How accurate it is, nobody knows?!

I doubt schools will close, unless forced to do so through lack of staff, either ill or self isolating.

I hope i'm wrong, but I just can't see the goverment closing them.

Sunshine1239 · 15/03/2020 17:31

They’re putting a law in place to force them to stay open so no time soon by look of it and they’ll be shut til sept I reckon

How do you think they will stay shut till September if you don’t think they’re closing?

TimeforanotherChange · 15/03/2020 17:34

I very much doubt schools will close. The knock on effect would be incredible and affect the economy to such a degree I can't see it happening. Boris and his cronies would have to care about teachers, and they don't. They would have to care about the elderly, the sick and the poor. And they don't. Teachers will be expected to keep providing free childcare so that everyone else can keep the economy going.

I'm a teacher and it is becoming increasingly clear that despite vague murmurings about 'getting prepared' that actually they will not close the schools.

tiredanddangerous · 15/03/2020 17:35

Our LA has told schools to get everything in place for a probable close on Friday until after the Easter holidays.

supersop60 · 15/03/2020 17:35

I am a visiting Music teacher, and one of my schools is carrying on, but having no visiting teachers (not great), speakers, concerts, or trips. So only core curriculum, and no germs from outside!

Sunshine1239 · 15/03/2020 17:37

I don’t think they will close but if they do it’ll have test longer than the peak which is June (so last the peak and the down turn) which would be July so no point!

Nat6999 · 15/03/2020 17:37

I wouldn't be surprised if we just wake up one morning & have received an email overnight.

Sunshine1239 · 15/03/2020 17:37

Plus Irish minister said they’d have to close 16 weeks

crustycrab · 15/03/2020 17:41

@Sunshine1239 eh?

They won't close but they will til September?

Knowhowufeel2 · 15/03/2020 17:43

I've been told by Wednesday at the latest.

crustycrab · 15/03/2020 17:43

"don’t think they will close but if they do it’ll have test longer than the peak which is June (so last the peak and the down turn) which would be July so no point!"

Sorry what? Test the peak? How do you know that will be in June and why would there be no point closing a school in July? Makes no sense whatsoever
