to ask if your kids are going to school on Monday?

I’ve been quite happy to follow government recommendations so far, but today my DD couldn’t go swimming with her mates as their parents are keeping them home. I made a comment that they’ll be surrounded by kids at school on Monday anyway and she said that their parents will be keeping them off now as they disagree that schools should be open. I was going to keep sending mine as long as they’re open, I’ve got three healthy teen kids but also a preschool child with asthma who ends up in hospital fairly regularly just from basic colds and am second guessing myself now?

BBC covering it now

HasaDigaEebowai · 16/03/2020 18:09

Pregnant women must take special notice of the social distancing measures too

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 16/03/2020 18:09

I don't people will stop going out. There will always be people who will go out.

itsallthedramaMickiloveit · 16/03/2020 18:09

*doubt

London particularly hit and is a few weeks in front of the rest of the country in terms of infection rates

MoonBlood · 16/03/2020 19:23

Not sure what sort of a correlation you’re looking for but mine have had every single vaccination. I have no truck with anti-vaxxers

Same here. No one knows anywhere near enough about this new virus to gamble with lives, which is what our government have very much sounded as though they are doing. I don’t know why it’s difficult for anyone to understand that people want to protect their loved ones of ALL ages until we know more? Hmm

@coronavirusissueatschool Did you mange you mention about sending out a letter to parents today? I’ve finally had some communication from the school so if that happens to have been down to you, thank you Grin😊

Never experienced anything like this in my life, scary.

Leithwalk · 16/03/2020 20:21

Working across schools today - in my LA attendance figures for those schools are between 69 - 80%.

Treaclepie19 · 16/03/2020 20:50

Yeah I'm not sending him tomorrow.
My husband is now working from home, I'm social distancing because of pregnancy. Makes zero sense him going to school as normal.

HulaHoop2 · 16/03/2020 20:54

I’m from the UK but live in Canada. We have no cases where I am but the schools are shut. It seems like the UK is the only country not closing schools. In this case I think people are right to ignore the government’s advice and keep their kids off school. I don’t trust Boris to make the right decisions to keep people safe.

coronavirusissueatschool · 16/03/2020 22:46

@MoonBlood Grin

We did get a letter out today. But if a line said 'we have no confirmed cases of COVID-19' that was a lie Sad

belay · 16/03/2020 23:12

So anyone over 70 can't go out for 12 weeks ?? 🤔

nellodee · 16/03/2020 23:16

I'm one of the biggest doom sayers on here.

I'm also an atheist, don't believe in the healing powers of crystals, don't believe in chemtrails or ghosts or dogs knowing when you're about to come home, am a big advocate of vaxxing and really miss Ben Goldacre's Bad Science column.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 16/03/2020 23:23

So anyone over 70 can't go out for 12 weeks ??
This. I don't know how they'll implement it.
A lot of over 70s are still fit and healthy and go to work every day in important jobs, now they're to "self isolate" for 3 months?!
How would it be enforced?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 16/03/2020 23:23

Bold fail, top sentence a quote

MoonBlood · 17/03/2020 05:02

@coronavirusissueatschool Oh no :( No our letter was a very brief ‘we’re working closely with the LEA’ and cancellation of anything and everything extracurricular. It won’t be long til the schools are closed now I think.

I want to stop them going today. They both really want to go and I’m not sure whether to wait until the end of the week or not.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 05:13

For me it’s the huge amount of cases that will hit hospitals in the next few weeks.

Reading posts on here about the amount of idiots who think the new instructions don’t have to apply to them is unbelievable.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2020 05:14

And everywhere. There are enough people behaving selfishly and illogically for me to close it all down now.

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/03/2020 07:12

Mine are not at school We haven't even had a call from school to see where they are and so I suspect quite a few are off.

If you can keep them off I think you should keep them off. My money is on the government initially copying the system in France and closing for all children but the young children of essential workers who need childcare.

bobstersmum · 17/03/2020 08:07

For the people who, if they didn't go to work would not be able to eat or pay their mortgage, is the government planning to help with that in any way?
I've seen talk of them helping businesses. I am keeping our dc off school, but dh is the only wage earner, if he had to self isolate or his work had to close we would be screwed.
