to ask if your kids are going to school on Monday?

I’ve been quite happy to follow government recommendations so far, but today my DD couldn’t go swimming with her mates as their parents are keeping them home. I made a comment that they’ll be surrounded by kids at school on Monday anyway and she said that their parents will be keeping them off now as they disagree that schools should be open. I was going to keep sending mine as long as they’re open, I’ve got three healthy teen kids but also a preschool child with asthma who ends up in hospital fairly regularly just from basic colds and am second guessing myself now?

yes - I have to go to work!

TheCountessatHotelCortez · 14/03/2020 22:16

Yes no confirmed cases in my area of Scotland and I am frontline nhs staff so panicking about schools closing as it is

ghostyslovesheets · 14/03/2020 22:16

should add we have cancelled an Easter trip to stay with my mum who is 74 with heart failure and angina

MoonBlood · 14/03/2020 22:17

Sorry I forgot about the voting bit!

Yabu - yes send them to school

Yanbu - keep them home

Do what you need to do. Keep them home if it protects the youngest. Or let the older ones go in if it affects their exams but be prepared for them to stay somewhere else for the interim. Xx

Darbs76 · 14/03/2020 22:18

Yes until Boris says otherwise they will go. Ds2 has GCSE’s in 2 months and syllabus to finish. They will both be going

MoonBlood · 14/03/2020 22:18

We’ve got two confirmed cases in our area and I’m on maternity at the moment with a baby due soon, so they could feasibly stay home without too much trouble.

Mine asleep going in until the guidelines say to keep them off.

Leeds2 · 14/03/2020 22:18

I don't have a school aged child but, if I did, they would be going to school until such times as the schools are closed. Which I believe they will be.

cardibach · 14/03/2020 22:19

I think it’s entirely up to you. With a child who has health difficulties I can see the worry. I’m a supply teacher so if schools close I don’t get paid, and I still think they should close. It’s tricky if your kids will miss out on teaching though - once schools are closed teachers will do something to provide work and feedback but if they are open you can’t ask for that.

Queenofeverything44 · 14/03/2020 22:19

My daughter is 10 and has a heart condition so I'm seriously considering not sending her. I've already lost one daughter to pneumonia by following medical advice so not taking the a chance this time. They can fucking fine me and I'll sue them.

MoonBlood · 14/03/2020 22:20

@ScorpionQueen & @Darbs76
Yes my eldest is in gcse year, there is talk about the exams being postponed but nothing decided. It’s so hard to know what to do for the best really.

Darbs76 · 14/03/2020 22:20

Luckily for me now my kids are old enough at 12 and 15 to stay home alone if school is closed

curlycat · 14/03/2020 22:20

DS is desperate for school to close but he's in S4 with exams coming up so he'll be in for as long as its open

Queenofeverything44 · 14/03/2020 22:21

Just to clarify I will be accessing online learning for her so she won't be sitting doing nothing all day..

InArrears · 14/03/2020 22:21

Yes. I have had a house full of teens this evening and we are going to a teen birthday party tomorrow.

Though I have told them to make sure they get everything they need from teachers (GCSE's this year) in case schools suddenly close. I am also going to bring everything I need from work to wfh if I need to do so at short notice.

Teen2 (no symptoms) decided he was self-isolating this morning, but lasted till 11am before he caved and went out. It's going to be a challenge when it does happen.

MoonBlood · 14/03/2020 22:21

@Queenofeverything44 I’m so sorry to hear that Flowers

IsolationMum · 14/03/2020 22:21

Mine are staying off next week as one has a cough.

AlexCabot · 14/03/2020 22:21

No. Dh is unwell and we've been advised to self isolate the household.

Darbs76 · 14/03/2020 22:22

I’m not panicking about them catching it. As it stands children tend to be very mildly affected, I’d just keep him away from any elderly relatives. Yes lots of talk about exam options, I think I read earlier a meeting is planned to discuss more this week. It’s going to be at its peak by May / June no doubt

formerbabe · 14/03/2020 22:22

Yes I'm sending mine in. Maybe I'm mad but I'm not worried...from what I understand children aren't especially affected and neither of my dc have asthma or underlying health problems. I'm happy to continue life as normal.

fixyourgardengate · 14/03/2020 22:22

Mine are going to school and all their clubs until they are closed.

InArrears · 14/03/2020 22:23

I wouldn't judge anyone for staying at home now though.

Darbs76 · 14/03/2020 22:23

@Queenofeverything44 - you won’t be fined. Just say she’s got a cough

Doyoumind · 14/03/2020 22:23

I'm sending in until they close or we have symptoms in the house.
