Is anyone else imagining that this could be some kind of social experiment?
Childhoodbooks · 14/03/2020 21:00
Ok so I know it's ridiculous to say really. So this is semi lighthearted. But my mind does have a tendency to run away with itself.
But honestly all of this reminds me of a dystopian film or book. Some kind of government experiment, to see how easily we can be controlled, or to get rid of a few people.
Butterwhy · 14/03/2020 21:03
No, there have been several pandemics throughout history, we don't seem to learn from them to be honest. If it was an experiment you would hope that someone would write notes for next time.
BirdMascara · 14/03/2020 21:06
The virus is on all continents. Which government do you think is orchestrating this? The Illuminati?
Helenj1977 · 14/03/2020 21:06
Yes! I said this to dp this morning.
It could be the UK are the test people and the world is watching to see how we cope. I don't know anyone self isolating or ill. It could be a test for future outbreaks.
(obviously would love for this to be true 😢)

I've no idea, I don't literally think this. It just feels this way.
I've not seen anything like this in my lifetime, where countries have closed schools/shops and so on.
It just has that feel about it, like a dystopian film, where everyone watches things unfold.
The80sweregreat · 14/03/2020 21:11
I'm not sure. I'm in the conspiracy team myself with nothing to back it up really! I feel we're not being told the truth but it's easy to get drawn in when you spend hours on social media and mumsnet as I tend to do.
I am concerned about how it will pan out but trying not to worry too much if that makes sense!
I don't know what to think to be honest.
PersonaNonGarter · 14/03/2020 21:13
I think it will feel weird and unreal ... until people we know die. Then it will not feel like a film.
Papoy · 14/03/2020 21:14
Nature is sending a warning signal to humans... so in a way this is definitely a social experiment... A brutal one but still just a dress rehearsal to the main event...
How we act in the next 6 months to others will define the future of the humanity... if we cant deal with this pandemic today, come together and support the people and communities we live in, we have no chance to survive the challenges global warming will bring.
sillysmiles · 14/03/2020 21:14

I know its a lighthearted thread but you do realise the UK is not the only country with an outbreak, ya?
SapphireSalute · 14/03/2020 21:15
it the aliens
they've sent it down to wipe out the generation who invented and over used plastic/power stations/diesel/anything thats killing our planet
its our punishment
LynetteScavo · 14/03/2020 21:16
I wonder if different countries have been told to handle things differently in order to compare the outcomes.
BMW6 · 14/03/2020 21:18
No
I just think we in the First World have taken an awful lot for granted and are in for a reality check.
Notonmyshift · 14/03/2020 21:18
I've lost faith in humanity with the panic buying and selfish behaviour of others
The80sweregreat · 14/03/2020 21:18
Nobody I know has died or been ill so it's easy to be a bit very blasé , head in sand about it. The news has altered a bit lately ; they said there was another meeting at no 10 , then it went quiet so it is easy to think something is afoot when maybe it isn't.
I am at a loss ; as much as I like mumsnet it tends to fuel my fears a lot especially as there are a lot of very clever people that post up things and sound more in the know than what we're being told. The Internet makes you doubt yourself!
SuckingDieselFella · 14/03/2020 21:19
@LynetteScavo
Spot on. And you know who's been travelling around a lot lately telling them what to do?
Harry and Megan.
taps side of nose
newbingepisodes · 14/03/2020 21:19
Yes did no one tell you the U.K. are the control arm the pandemic randomised control trial of intervention!
DGRossetti · 14/03/2020 21:20
I wonder if different countries have been told to handle things differently in order to compare the outcomes.
I think that would happen anyway. Geographical if not cultural differences playing a part ...
peekaboob · 14/03/2020 21:21
@BirdMascara I literally said the same thing to my DF today. Apparently the government controls what the WHO tells people. I just looked at him like and asked him which government is controlling the WORLD Health Organisation.
GulliBelle · 14/03/2020 21:27
Bans on large gatherings after St Greta materializes in front of a vast adoring crowd in Bristol. Coincidence? I think not.
Fannia · 14/03/2020 21:29
Apparently the government controls what the WHO tells people
Funny since they have been quite critical of our government response.
Goawayquickly · 14/03/2020 21:30
With the way our government is acting compared to other countries it feels like we in the UK are being experimented on to an extent.
It’s a strange time whatever, feels a bit like we’re in limbo right now.
SuckingDieselFella · 14/03/2020 21:31
@peekaboob
I had to google Thanos. You are much wiser than I am. Yes, it could be Thanos but my money is on SHIELD, or possibly Hydra.
SuckingDieselFella · 14/03/2020 21:34
@GulliBelle
Yes indeed.
And then fake St Greta made the fake phone calls to Harry and Megan.
To throw us off the scent that they are making REAL phone calls to each other and orchestrating the whole thing. Who knew that a former squaddie, a 16 year old and a soap actress had such brains? All fake personas of course. They're the brains behind it all, mark my words.
