Are existing NHS staff going to receive a bonus.

Apologies if this is obvious or has been asked elsewhere but are existing NHS staff going to receive any extra financial government support?
To me it's blindingly obvious that they are at the front line and are going to be exhausted.

Extra money would elevate worries, help with childcare and ease life in general.

Or is there a specific petition or movement anywhere I could support?
Thanks.

Cleaning the staff toilets and providing enough soap and paper towels would be a start

fivesecondrule · 14/03/2020 16:38

This is the sort of petition we should be signing- even if nothing comes of it it at least HCPs will know how much people value and think of them. I can not understand how they must be feeling on the brink of this.

MadisonMontgomery · 14/03/2020 16:39

Forget a bonus, I’d just be grateful if people could try being nice to GP admin staff!

ChasingRainbows19 · 14/03/2020 16:40

No chance but the correct amount of PPE for all in the NHS before it gets worse and better guidance would be a start....

ThreeBlindNice · 14/03/2020 16:41

They absolutely should, but they won't

ChasingRainbows19 · 14/03/2020 16:42

Our pay deal will be in its final year this time tho so could be used in negotiations maybe if anyone is left and not burned out.....meanwhile I'll enjoy the extra couple of hundred pound I get this year I'm sure Hmm

stoptherideiwanttogetoff · 14/03/2020 16:47

With a crumbling economy I very much doubt it.. but then when you sign up I guess you know that it's long unpredictable hours and the shit has most definitely hit the fan quite frankly.. speaking to a HCP earlier today who told me hand sanitizer was under lock and key because staff were stealing it from the stock room 🤨

Sackofspuds · 14/03/2020 16:47

If there was a go fund me page for this surely we could make this happen?

ShootEmUpSarsaparilla · 14/03/2020 16:48

What a hilarious thought OP!

buttonmoonb4tea · 14/03/2020 16:55

NHS HCP don't even have the correct protective clothing, let's at least give them that first.

Then a bonus

Zacharyezrarawlings · 14/03/2020 16:57

as bloddy if!
No protective gear for us yet either. And the cleaner resposnible for the offices was "off" this week so I ended up emptying the overflowing bins and carting out bags of rubbish . (I'm a clinician in a patient facing role.)

MauriceandAlec · 14/03/2020 17:02

No. The government wants the NHS gone. They see this as an opportunity to completely collapse it and shaft everyone.

Bombaybunty · 14/03/2020 17:06

I'm a community based nurse. We were asked if any of us wanted to be on call to swab possible infected people.

No money to pay us, but we'd get our time back!
A resounding no from me.

TweenageAngst · 14/03/2020 17:08

ICU nurse- I have bought my own goggles and visor both which can be cleaned with bleach and chlorhexidine.

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 18:17

@TweenageAngst you shouldn't have to but I understand why.

I've got a load of home visits booked next week (going to ring people and see if they want phone calls instead) mostly with older people.

While a bonus would be lovely, I'd really just like some hand gel...

Motorina · 14/03/2020 18:36

Was doing home visits on friday, using my own hand gel. I have two of the mini bottles. Well, I did before friday. One and a half now...

PPE and communication would do for me. Ohhhh, and an agreement from management that we can stop non-urgent care.

Mumof1andacat · 14/03/2020 18:37

I cant even receive training for when things are normal. You think we're getting a bonus when thing like this happen....yeah right!

chinateapot · 14/03/2020 18:39

Missing the point of the thread here but - we get 10% off at Starbucks?! Really?

I can’t imagine there’s any chance of a bonus. As others have said just some appropriate protection (masks etc) would be good

Motorina · 14/03/2020 19:05

I'd also quite like it if I could stop doing non-urgent aerosol-generating procedures on patients with cold/flu symptoms. I don't mind* putting my health on the line to provide emergency care, but I'm a bit miffed that I'm being expected to do so for routine treatments that could be delayed with no harm beyond mild inconvenience.

(*I do mind. I'm shitting myself. But that's the job.)

Lemonpink88 · 14/03/2020 19:10

Front line pregnant nurse here, I doubt it! Wev been told annual leave maybe suspended. No one to book any at mo. Not sure wat I’m going to if DS nursery shuts - thank Boris a lot of us nhs workers are able to work at the moment as they are still open otherwise surly half our workforce will be down? I don’t have any childcare hubbys abroad & family elderly. I don’t care about risk of virus myself, we look after nasty bugs every day. Lots of colleagues similar situ to myself 🤷‍♀️

Gizmo79 · 14/03/2020 19:18

Would be a nice idea but unlikely. However, OT will be being paid and bank rates will increase to cover demand, if needs must then the hospitals will pay out, the government will then have to bail them out. If they don’t then that’s when the public need to step in and demand they do. They do have the magic money tree after all...no sarcasm there, they really do, after all, how else do you explain their irrational behaviour to this virus and everything else that has occurred in the last few years.

Seventytwoseventythree · 14/03/2020 19:20

We haven’t even got the right face masks (hospital front line) so I think bonus is unlikely

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 20:15

Ok so I'm probably an idiot but I've started a crowdfunder for staff and equipment for my local hospital.

Let's see how that goes...
£100 so far and lovey supportive messages to you all despite a spelling mistake (now corrected🥴) and not being brilliantly composed.

It’s a lovely thought @stayathomegardener. Thankyou Flowers
