Are existing NHS staff going to receive a bonus.

Apologies if this is obvious or has been asked elsewhere but are existing NHS staff going to receive any extra financial government support?
To me it's blindingly obvious that they are at the front line and are going to be exhausted.

Extra money would elevate worries, help with childcare and ease life in general.

Or is there a specific petition or movement anywhere I could support?
Thanks.

That’s so sweet of you OP.

I’m an an ICU sister and we’re gearing up on my unit for absolute mayhem. The government will reap what they’ve sown over the last 10 years + in terms of cuts and no pay increases. Our service can barely cope normally let alone with a pandemic of this magnitude.

We also do not have the correct PPE so goodness knows what’ll happen when we go down too. The NHS for years has been partially carried along by the goodwill and kindness of its staff so God help us all when we’re infected too.

Unlikely to get anything extra given our already poor pay, staff shortages and supply shortages.

Lovely if you to think of us though Grin

Thank you @stayathomegardener

Though some nhs staff will really show their how worthy they are ICU, A&E, paramedics (so often overlooked)

And let’s not forget carers they to will have to support people who have contracted the coronavirus as there simply wont be enough hospital beds

No way. As has been said, the correct/bare minimum equipment to be able to carry out the job safely and effectively would be nice. I feel like the goodwill and the duty aspect has been evaporating for a while now, I would bet the numbers will dwindle further after this.

@stayathomegardener what a lovely thing to do. A and E nurse here, I’m at work tomorrow and feel sick with nerves. The rules are changing daily and I’m terrified I will get something wrong. We are a 26 bedded department, usually have 50-70 at any one time during the day, particularly afternoons and evenings. Constantly juggling, moving people in and out of cubicles to do essential treatments/catheters/ECGs etc. Our corridor is always in use and recently we have extended it...! this week have had to section off 5 normal beds and a resus bed. But we will still have people coming in their usual numbers with A and E issues unrelated to CV19, and now we will have virus patients and 20% fewer beds spaces to house everyone else. And still fined if they are in A and E for more than 4 hours before
Discharge or admission. Glad I’ve stepped down from sister to staff nurse. In our trust band 6’s lead a shift and are nurse in charge. The stress is unbelievable and really not worth it, despite it being a really interesting job which I learned tons from. But my boss is great and we are lucky to have an excellent team.

I expect hospital executives will take a pay cut and reward their staff out of their own.pockets..dream onConfused

Our bonus is working and putting our lives at risk for £9.05 an hour!
