Are existing NHS staff going to receive a bonus.

Apologies if this is obvious or has been asked elsewhere but are existing NHS staff going to receive any extra financial government support?
To me it's blindingly obvious that they are at the front line and are going to be exhausted.

Extra money would elevate worries, help with childcare and ease life in general.

Or is there a specific petition or movement anywhere I could support?
Thanks.

I doubt it very much. They will sadly be expected to do what we already do. Work through breaks, Stay late, do the job of 2 nurses as we are 40,000 short as it is.
We get 10% off at Nando’s though. Winning.

SauvignonBlanche · 14/03/2020 15:56

No fucking chance Hmm

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 15:58

Thanks @ANiceSliceOfCake I did google first and suspected it was not the case.

As a household with asthma and underlying health conditions our lives will depend on you all waaaay beyond a 10% off at Nando'sSmile

Maybe Mumsnet should start a crowdfunder if there's not one already.

SpeedofaSloth · 14/03/2020 15:59

I doubt it.

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 16:00

It would be one positive in all this mess, we clearly can't rely on government to support you and I just feel a bit hopeless it would be good to focus on something.

Frontline staff here! And being provided with the correct protective equipment would be bonus.....let alone a monetary one

ViciousJackdaw · 14/03/2020 16:00

Extra money for childcare is no use if there's no places at the CM or nursery. I suspect many may prefer to have a childcare solution already sorted out for them. Same with elder care, a real solution is needed rather than just saying 'Here's a few quid, you're on your own with this'.

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 16:04

I totally agree with you @ViciousJackdaw however solutions seemingly take time and a crowdfunder at least would get things going.

Will they hell. The footballers will sit around earning millions while the NHS work all the hours for peanuts. Maybe this will make people reassess their priorities but I doubt it.

crosser62 · 14/03/2020 16:06

Bless you but no.

I’ll still have to pay to park my car to go to work.
So I’m kinda paying them!

Wineislifex · 14/03/2020 16:09

Pha...you don’t work for the NHS do you OP 🤣

It used to be 20% at Nando’s? They haven’t changed it have they?! Haven’t we been through enough this week 🤣🤣

Coffeeandnutrients · 14/03/2020 16:12

That would be lovely but sadly no.

Starbuck8419 · 14/03/2020 16:12

Hahaha no. I’d give my left kidney NHS staff will not be given any kind of bonus, additional expenses, time off etc.
People voted in a government that makes a habit of trampling over those deserving types of folk.

TheQueef · 14/03/2020 16:13

Italian HCP have had €1000 extra this month.
For being cannon fodder.
Mortgage breaks, free childcare and a substantial emergency pay top up in the very least.

I think we are underestimating the toll on HCP.
Luckily we have an NHS (what's left of it) that still means something to many and they will do their duty.
I suspect this will be carried more by determination of NHS staff.
Yet they are rolling their sleeves up and getting stuck in.

Bravo to our NHS staff.
Bravo. Flowers

plus3 · 14/03/2020 16:16

Well that would be nice....I am a sister in PICU - think I am about to get a crash course in caring for adults requiring ICU. If ever there was time to feel valued ...

MegCleary · 14/03/2020 16:16

I’m a bank nurse. Have had to cancel 5 shifts due to cough, they can’t tell me if I’m entitled to SSP, no guidance as yet.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 14/03/2020 16:16

I thought we got 20% off Nando’s

I doubt it. If I have to take time off when ds schools closes I don’t get full pay

I shall be working extra hours this week hopefully balance my wage out

Straycatblue · 14/03/2020 16:17

Never mind a bonus, we dont even have enough protective equipment on the frontline, ie facemasks, gowns to wear and nurses are being pressured by managment to treat patients without.

Nothing new there though.

addictedtotheflats · 14/03/2020 16:22

You have got to be joking right 🤣🤣🤣

My bonus will probably come in the form of Covid itself. We don't even have FFP masks, simple surgical masks are obviously being made out to be ok because of the cost of FFP 👍🏼 ive already been exposed to 5 possible covid patients in the past 2 days

PlomBear · 14/03/2020 16:24

And 10% at Starbucks! Same as the military.

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2020 16:24

I'm listening.

OP posts:
BabyLlamaZem · 14/03/2020 16:24

Same as police. Nope! Career seen as a 'lifestyle choice' and they just have to do it. Will never forget when Teresa May said about nurses "they are good at doing a job we don't like doing" as if no one she knew/addressed to was a nurse. What a shame.

Would love it if this changed

Loppy10 · 14/03/2020 16:24

Ha ha, fat chance

Forget a bonus, I'd be pleasantly surprised if they even managed to get us some hand gel

Mrspimplepopper · 14/03/2020 16:25

Icu nurse here

I'm very anxious about bringing the virus home to my young children

Iliketeaagain · 14/03/2020 16:29

A bonus 🤣 - most of us would be happy with consistent advice, appropriate PPE and some alcohol hand gel.

As a manager, I try to make sure I keep the tea, coffee, milk and goodies stocked up to try and keep morale going - it's one little thing I can do.
