No - the president of the Catalan government has announced that the region is to be confined. However, we are waiting for the Spanish government to allow this. News will probably be forthcoming today. I would advise your partner to leave Catalunya today, as a shutdown may start tomorrow.

Can he try and get home today?

My friend in another part of Spain is on lockdown. They are taking this deadly seriously. If your husband can't be bothered to get out today you may not see him for a few months.

Should probably clarify that I mean get a train now, this morning, before potential lockdown later or tomorrow.

Flights have not been cancelled out of Spanish airports at this point. I would strongly advise he gets himself out of there ASAP though. Waiting until tomorrow is a huge risk. It's only a matter of time.

The outgoing flights may not go as it depends on where the aircraft is. If it’s in the U.K. and that flight didn’t leave or got turned around then there is no plane to come home.

Again, OP, we are still waiting for the Spanish govt to confirm whether or not Catalunya will be confined. Updates are likely today.

If the planes aren’t going in then there will be no planes there to fly back out. I would try to get him to head home ASAP. Even if they haven’t shut down airports or travel yet, I would think there will be cancellations due to reduced number of planes available. 24 hours is a long time when things start to go into lockdown. By Sunday they could easily have cancelled the majority of flights in and out.

Look at how quickly things started happening in Italy once the initial quarantines started. I would be wanting my DH to be heading to the Airport ASAP and getting the next available flight home.

Yes get him home OP. It won't take long for flights to be cancelled and those running will be full as other tourists catch on to what is happening.

Spanish govt are currently in a meeting about the state of emergency that was declared yesterday. There will be announcements made very soon.
