Who is keeping their kids home from school from Monday?

I am. I am at real risk if I catch this. I am not locking my kids in the house. But it will mean they see a small number of kids rather than the hundreds they do in school.
And yes I will be keeping them away from clubs or any large gatherings as well.
Anyone else?

Just interested if you had mentioned it to the school? And if so what response did you get?

TK1930 · 13/03/2020 13:38

Seriously considering it
Will discuss at the weekend with DH

User1775564212 · 13/03/2020 13:39

I spoke to our headteacher today and she said closure is imminent.

bemoreeverything · 13/03/2020 13:40

How long will you keep them home for?

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 13:40

As long as I need to

Me.

inselfisolationnow · 13/03/2020 13:41

So they're going to miss 4 months of schooling then?

PeskyRooks · 13/03/2020 13:42

I am. Dh is immuno compromised. Secondary school has said absence due to parent /carer having to self isolate due to underlying health condition will be authorized under code Y.

ProveThemWrong2014 · 13/03/2020 13:42

Won't you get fined?

bemoreeverything · 13/03/2020 13:42

That could run into months. How old are your children? Are you in England and likely to be fined?

LJL1 · 13/03/2020 13:42

I kept mine off today and will for the foreseeable future. Schooling is less important than preserving life.

SunshineMoon100 · 13/03/2020 13:43

I think once the schools close anyway
Every child will miss months of schooling. They wont close to open in a couple of weeks now that would be really stupid.

Figgygal · 13/03/2020 13:43

What about fines?
What about maintaining their education?
If you still going to take them out and about and see people what’s the point?

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 13:44

I am ringing in saying they have a cough and have to self isolate for 7 days first.
I think schools will close anyway. And I think them having a mother who is alive is more important.

I will be watching them closely over the weekend and if they so much as clear their throat to speak or feel half a degree warmer than usual they will be off. I won't keep them off if they have no symptoms but my threshold for keep them off just got much much lower.

SerendipityJane · 13/03/2020 13:45

Won't you get fined?

Hard to stack that up against "not dying" though.

NellyGrace · 13/03/2020 13:45

I'm going to keep the most vulnerable one off and see how it goes for the rest of the week. Take each day at a time.

PeskyRooks · 13/03/2020 13:46

They won't be going out and about. House & garden maybe a walk a half mile up the track. I live very rurally though.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 13:46

I will look at home education stuff online to try and keep them up-to-date with things.

SunshineMoon100 · 13/03/2020 13:47

Theres plenty resources online to help our children if need be

PinkyU · 13/03/2020 13:48

We received an email a short while ago from school to say to keep an eye on their app re school closures - no “potential” in there, so I’m likely gearing up for not sending mine on Monday.

My youngest’s class had only 10 of 27 children in today.

Scruffyoak · 13/03/2020 13:48

No. Son is year 11 so will be going so it's pointless keeping the rest at home.

Notlong20 · 13/03/2020 13:49

@LauraAshleySofa what’s the point in that? Surely you would keep them off before they get ill Hmm

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 13:49

They will be seeing very few people. It is far from foolproof, but better than being at school with hundreds of other kids.

Our school is sending an update later... I've asked if they'll support me if I remove them.

I don't want to be a government guinea pig.
