Who is keeping their kids home from school from Monday?

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 13:24

I am. I am at real risk if I catch this. I am not locking my kids in the house. But it will mean they see a small number of kids rather than the hundreds they do in school.
And yes I will be keeping them away from clubs or any large gatherings as well.
Anyone else?

@StillDisappointed That'll be it for me then - thank you for that.

There's your 60%.

StillDisappointed · 13/03/2020 15:18

@alloutoffucks and me. It's a private nursery with extortionate fees - I wonder why they'd want to keep kids in for as long as they possibly can Hmm

Disgraceful.

Drivemybluecar · 13/03/2020 15:22

Mine is 16. So he will keep going as he has exams. But he has no underlying medical problems that would cause a problem with this virus.
He will keep going until they close the schools then he can revise at home. Luckily I can still go to work as he is fine on his own

Giganticshark · 13/03/2020 15:25

No. He's in a small school so less risk.
Plus I'm not a panicker.
Also I'd be wank at home education.

lentenwonder · 13/03/2020 15:27

They aren’t trying to accurately test everyone now - self isolate, don’t call 111, aren't we are now only testing people who need medical help?

I would not send my dc in if I was in a high risk category.

VitCSoup · 13/03/2020 15:28

@StillDisappointed
I actually think there's a huge difference between the known/confirmed number of cases and how many in the population have actually got it. If you live in a city as opposed to rurally, I think I'd assume it's not far away or already in the local enviroment

helpfulperson · 13/03/2020 15:33

To all the people saying there children aren't going in next week you do realise that the timescales of this are months no weeks. Are you planning to keep your children off probably until after the summer?

ploppityplop · 13/03/2020 15:38

ds is schooled online anyway. so his education is totally unaffected. year 8.

ploppityplop · 13/03/2020 15:39

would highly reccomend online school. taught by teachers live stream classes. same stuff as mainstream

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 15:43

@helpfulperson We will reassess. And as I said I dont think it will be long before schools are not doing anything except babysitting, except for exam students. There will be too many teachers off sick to do anything else. And they won't be able to get cover teachers. So yes I would rather home teach them than them being babysat at school with the increased risks.

@StillDisappointed I have just had the same text message, it also says if they have a suspected or confirmed case they will not be closing

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 15:47

So not even a deep clean.

@StillDisappointed I like that nursery manager, she told you all. Many wouldn’t have for fear of their jobs

StillDisappointed · 13/03/2020 15:52

Something really strange is going on. For that sloth in No10 to say no to school closures and now nurseries are going to stay open even with confirmed cases?

Tin-foil hat I know, but what aren't they telling us?

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 13/03/2020 15:52

So divided. DH just diagnosed with high grade brain tumour. He is well at the moment but is also due to start chemo which would be delayed if he falls ill. I have chronic illness. Am not sure whether to keep DS off.

2020 is a bastard.

LuluJakey1 · 13/03/2020 15:57

Thing is that waiting until we have a cough or a temperature to self-isolate means we have already been infectious for several days before symptoms: 5-7 days before.

SnoozyLou · 13/03/2020 16:04

@helpfulperson I think I'll keep mine off until I've had my baby at the very least, but cheers for your input 👍

Gin96 · 13/03/2020 16:11

It depends on your circumstances, if you have 3 young children, school age and live in a flat 60 days (Wuhan have been in isolation since 24th Jan) isolation is going to drive them stir crazy. This isn’t going to be 2 weeks, we are not China and people won’t stick to the rules. There is also the financial side, how are people going to pay their bills, not many companies will pay full sick pay for 60 days, China is a communist country so it works a bit different to here.

Coffeeandgin24 · 13/03/2020 16:19

It is amazing how many people on forums know more than the scientists who have spent all their life researching diseases. Good luck keeping children off till September, or are you going to send them back when cases are rising at a faster rate?

MrsPMT · 13/03/2020 16:22

Thanks for online links, I'm not sure what to do. DS has underlying health conditions but has attendance problems so I'm concerned keeping him of will add to them.

PrettyTricky · 13/03/2020 16:25

@GrainOfSalt thanks, those links will be really helpful!

I'm not sure what to do, but forsee closures by the end of next week anyway, schools will undoubtedly close at some point, and hopefully sooner rather than later. My dc's school is hurriedly setting up Google classroom in anticipation. I'm really tempted just to keep dc off, it's hard to know what to do for the best.

anothernewone · 13/03/2020 16:27

Ours are in private.

School have supplied work to last until Easter break. They're staying open but supportive of those being taken out

We can wfh and live rurally so are lucky I guess

DGRossetti · 13/03/2020 16:28

I think the English dislike of experts and learning is well documented. Not sure why it would be any different in this instance.

alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:30

@Coffeeandgin24 It is amazing how the UK thinks the science is different to what the scientists in WHO and every single other country are saying?
So no I don't trust our Government. I have no idea if this is the right time to pull my kids out, I am groping in the dark here. But I am also going to do whatever I can to leave my kids without a mother.

OP posts:
alloutoffucks · 13/03/2020 16:31

And actually I value experts so please don't make out I am ignorant. That is why I have read the WHO advice and lots of papers around this. I have a better grasp of this than bloody Boris.
