Could anyone point me in the direction of the stats currently on the Diamond Princess ship, the one that had the Abels on?
Or does anyone know what the overall infected/recovered/negative numbers are? Thank you.

nellodee · 11/03/2020 22:50

@Oakmaiden, that link you sent is an absolute goldmine of papers. Thank you!

ofwarren I had hoped it wouldn't come to that. Dd has settled in so well and has friends now (autism) I really didn't want to take that from her.

But DH can barely breathe as it is. If he got CV...

Our head thought it was all a big joke when another parent raised it with her so I haven't bothered.

I just don't know what to do for the best. I now feel like if I wait for the 'right' time it will probably be too late. It is already in our town.

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 22:52

I think it is also important to remember that when they talk about children they are essentially talking about under 10 year olds. 11-19 year olds (so last 2 years of primary and all of secondary) have the same risk factors as 30-39 year olds.

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 22:53

@nellodee it is lovely that someone has gone to all that trouble just for us :D

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2020 22:54

Every journalist of every political leaning now tweeting more or less the following:

Alex Wickham @alexwickham
NEW: The UK will escalate its coronavirus response tomorrow

Will formally move to Delay phase

Boris Johnson to chair Cobra meeting at 1:15pm to confirm the decision

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 22:54

@RedToothBrush that’s horrific reading :(

Miriel · 11/03/2020 22:54

Given Matt Hancock's repeated assertions just hours ago that his 'science' doesn't support social distancing measures - that schools won't close and 50,000 people at a football match is just fine, I can't imagine that the 'delay' phase is going to look very different to the 'contain' one if it comes in tomorrow. Call 111 and wash your hands again.

It's like they want it to rage through the population. Months of utter chaos in hospitals and a needlessly high CFR, but herd immunity afterwards? That's the only semi-rational explanation I can see. I hope I'm wrong.

Two top banks had senior meetings today working towards lockdown date of 23 March. Govt department undertaking stress testing this week large numbers of staff working from home.

Oakmaiden · 11/03/2020 22:56

Does this help the conversation that was going on a bit earlier?

from www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-symptoms/
Using available preliminary data, the Report of the WHO-China Joint Mission published on Feb. 28 by WHO, [5] which is based on 55,924 laboratory confirmed cases, observed the following median time from symptoms onset to clinical recovery:

mild cases: approximately 2 weeks
severe or critical disease: 3 - 6 weeks
time from onset to the development of severe disease (including hypoxia): 1 week
Among patients who have died, the time from symptom onset to outcome ranges from 2 - 8 weeks.

fedup21 · 11/03/2020 22:56

They can’t say we’re now in delay and then do nothing, surely....??!

confusedandtired99 · 11/03/2020 22:56

Im actually confused. What was the point in their speech this evening if tomorrow they move to delay measures. Wasn’t it entirely pointless?

Skybluepink123 · 11/03/2020 22:57

Just watching Robert Peston on itv and he said that a cabinet minister is currently being tested. Wouldn’t say who in order to protect their family.

DirtyDancing · 11/03/2020 22:57

I agree a delay phase announcement is pending

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 11/03/2020 22:57

It is so tough we have been told if schools close we need to find alternative childcare asap.
Grandparents etc.
The pressure is very real and today it has been felt massively where I work. I obviously cannot say why or how but today is the first time I've seen colleagues who have played it down, genuinely worried.
I love my job I really do and feel honoured to do what I do. But at what cost?

I've come in tonight and stood in the shower for ages I just feel so unclean.
I've usually been the mum who has said " a bit of dirt is good for you"

I hadn't even prepared shopping wise but after today I can see that I was mistaken and I will rectify it tomorrow.

To those who think this is dramatic.
A couple of weeks ago I may have been inclined to agree.
I was only worried about a holiday I have booked in May
Tonight sitting here I would be happy not to leave the house for a long time.

nellodee · 11/03/2020 22:58

Good night all, I've been frustrated tonight, but it's been nice to link up with some fellow data nerds Smile.

Babamamananarama · 11/03/2020 22:58

Not Rtft but thought I'd add this scientific paper which says that asthma, allergies and COPD do NOT increase your risk from Covid19.

Which if true is a relief to me and probably many others

Peston now asking a minister what the £5 billion for nhs will be used for.

PaediatricianUK · 11/03/2020 22:59

Not true

PaediatricianUK · 11/03/2020 23:01

Not risk factors for infection.

But they will still be more at risk of severe disease when they get affected.

ofwarren · 11/03/2020 23:01

@DirtyDancing
Do you have a link for that?

OP posts:
cheninblanc · 11/03/2020 23:01

I wander if numbers of infected have jumped and that's why a change in tactic coming? Meeting is before official figures are released, I think they know something we yet don't and the two will be released together

GalOopNorth · 11/03/2020 23:01

Night nellodee Smile

Skybluepink123 · 11/03/2020 23:01

Surprise surprise, the politician didn’t answer Peston’s questions. Simply said there was a lot of work going on.
