So have we all given up on our Easter holiday bookings?

Haven’t had a holiday in so long and this Easter’s trip to Denmark has been booked since last Summer, I’m reluctantly coming to terms that we’re not going if things carry on as they are and stupidly because the country is so expensive we booked a non refundable hotel room to save money, that’ll teach us we’ve already been in touch with hotel and they’ve confirmed there’s nothing they’ll do regardless of the situation at the time

I'd go, it's not like you're living in an uninfected country now, you're as likely to catch it here as there.

HollyHocks13 · 10/03/2020 22:11

I've just had to cancel our holiday to Sicily. We were supposed to be going in just over 2 weeks' time. I'm gutted Sad

blue25 · 10/03/2020 22:14

We’ve cancelled. The last place I want to be at the moment is an airport or plane!

Happy to stay closer to home this year. Feel much less anxious since cancelling.

Lepetitpiggy · 10/03/2020 22:18

We are booked to go to Portugal on the 30th of this month and I have n intention of not going unless told not to.
I'm as xauroous as the next person about corona but genuinely don't see that cancelling is the right thing to do unless told to.

Lepetitpiggy · 10/03/2020 22:18

*cautious

irnbruxtra · 10/03/2020 22:23

Nope! Off to Gran Canaria next week - no different being there than here!

KaptenKrusty · 10/03/2020 22:37

Off to Japan - not a hope in hell il be changing my plans after the amount of money that’s been spent & how long I’ve been looking forward to it

Unless the advice changes and the travel insurance would pay out - il be on the plane ✈️

raspberryk · 10/03/2020 22:38

Erm nope we will still be going, unless we have actual restricted travel.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 10/03/2020 22:38

We're skiing in Switzerland in two weeks and very much hoping for empty slopes Grin

Echobelly · 10/03/2020 22:43

Glad we didn't book anything for easter in the end. Not sure what to do about kids, I am assuming holiday camps won't be running by then.

Wehttam · 10/03/2020 22:46

Staycation for us, not setting foot on a flying Petri dish for this year at least. For me it’s not worth the risk at all especially with kids.

ChippityDoDa · 10/03/2020 22:47

So we’re just doing Centerparcs (Woburn) which should be fine but I’m a bit worried about that bloody tropical lagoon pool being a hive of Coronavirus. The hygiene standards at c parcs aren’t the best in my experience anyway 🥴.

NoveltyFunsy · 11/03/2020 06:46

@FlamingoAndJohn
@Andonandonan

I was talking about insurance if the advice was not to travel not if the traveller simply decided not to go.

devildeepbluesea · 11/03/2020 06:48

Big group from school off skiing in Switzerland in 3 weeks. No indication it'll be cancelled yet, but I haven't bought any ski gear just yet...

KaptenKrusty · 11/03/2020 06:50

especially for the kids why does everyone keep saying things like this - it’s yourself you’d want to be more worried about - kids are not the ones at risk here.

Shutityoujamtart · 11/03/2020 06:56

We are still going. We only won’t go if the holiday company itself cancels etc.
I was on the Eurostar yesterday and it was very quiet .

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/03/2020 07:00

We're going to Butlins at Easter. Still intending to go but if it closes we will get refunded or offered a change of dates anyway. Reassuring to hear from people who have been recently that the staff are taking hygiene very seriously, constantly spraying down handrails and cleaning. The pool will be the biggest germ hot bed so if the situation gets worse we might avoid swimming.

PatchworkElmer · 11/03/2020 07:08

@Waxonwaxoff0 that’s reassuring to hear- we’re off to Butlins this weekend and I really don’t want to go. DH is still keen though.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/03/2020 07:08

I'm off to Scotland so yes still going

rockingmass · 11/03/2020 07:16

Depends, USA so travel advice might say don't go by then given that their cases have gone from 500 to 1000 overnight and their leader, the awe inspiring genius Trump reckons it will just 'go away'. We are travelling to an affected area. Or we might be in an Italian style quarantine phase by then anyway. Or the USA might not want us.
Just have to wait and see. I'm inclined to go if travel advice allows but DP is twitchy and saying probably not as we have DC with asthma.

VenusOfWillendorf · 11/03/2020 07:16

I live in Switzerland and am meant to be travelling today to Ireland for a family event but have decided not to travel. There are large number of cases here (including two at work - but in a different building to me). And it's getting worse every day; 124 new cases yesterday. Too risky for visiting elderly parents, and the numbers in Ireland are still relatively low.

My Easter holiday though is to Turkey and am not sure what to do. Travel insurance, as with most policies, excludes epidemics. I will wait and see. There is nothing to be gained at the moment for me by cancelling.

worldsworststepfordwife · 11/03/2020 07:22

He had a go at me earlier for panicking but I’m not I’m just thinking out loud saying ok no one will reimburse us the hotel cost as it’s non refundable and travel insurance won’t cover it so if the flights are available to go there we go but what about levels of risk at that point what if people from the uk have to self isolate at their destination, what if the destination has become a ghost town. What would be the point then?

Yes! Protect yourself and protect others.

Bunnybigears · 11/03/2020 07:33

Going to Barcelona first week of April for DS1s 13th birthday. We will still go unless FOC advises against travel. My only concerns are we are going hand luggage only which restricts how much hand gel!/wash we can take so will have to hope we can buy some there. Also if the major tourist attractions are shut I will have some bored kids to entertain.

QueenofmyPrinces · 11/03/2020 07:33

My Easter holiday though is to Turkey and am not sure what to do

We are supposed to be going to Turkey too. I really don’t want to go but my husband is adamant we are going because it’s all been paid for.

It’s not the country I’m worried about, it’s the airplane, the airport and the thought of needing to be quarantined Sad

I really don’t know what to do.
