So have we all given up on our Easter holiday bookings?

Haven’t had a holiday in so long and this Easter’s trip to Denmark has been booked since last Summer, I’m reluctantly coming to terms that we’re not going if things carry on as they are and stupidly because the country is so expensive we booked a non refundable hotel room to save money, that’ll teach us we’ve already been in touch with hotel and they’ve confirmed there’s nothing they’ll do regardless of the situation at the time

I think people are forgetting that many people who catch the virus are asymptomatic. They'll be a carrier but feel fine. So will never be tested. Life will go on as normal unless you're old or have underlying medical condition.

Aderyn19 · 12/03/2020 07:44

According to Piers Morgan on twitter, Denmark has gone into 14 day lockdown, so this might be out of your hands now anyway OP.

TheOriginalNutty · 12/03/2020 07:51

Myself and friend were going to Poland on 23rd but 2 of the tours we were doing while there have been cancelled so now we aren't sure what to do.

If we can't get our money back we'll have to go still. We'd be happy to change the dates but not sure they will even allow that. We booked through Expedia.

QueenofmyPrinces · 12/03/2020 07:55

If we can't get our money back we'll have to go still

Why do you have to go?

TweetUsOnFacebook · 12/03/2020 08:51

TheOriginalNutty some travel operators are offering change of dates.

If you can, you should.

If you can't, you need to think about how getting the virus would affect you and your loved ones personally or how you would manage if you weren't able to get back to the UK due to lockdown or flight cancellations.

HulksPurplePanties · 12/03/2020 14:09

Well my work has issued a travel ban to ALL countries unless you want to take a 14 day self quarantine from your annual leave. This was the direction of the UAE ministry of health. So all of you travelling to the UAE, ahhh wellll...

Southwestten · 12/03/2020 14:11

Shinynewapple - go for a walk in the hills or in the park at Chatsworth - any germs will be blown away pretty quickly.
Lucky you going to Bakewell - have a great time.

Poppydaisies · 12/03/2020 14:17

Who if forcing you to go Hmm??

Bunnybigears · 14/03/2020 07:06

Just got a full refund on my Airbnb booking in Barcelona. Just Ryanair flights to sort out now. They are waiving the fee to change flights until 31st March I was due to travel a few days after so I'm holding off for now to see if they extend the offer. So hopefully just the cost of airport parking and travel insurance I'm losing out on (unless they extend the travel restrictions to the whole of Spain) so I can actually use the travel insurance.

Pteuropa · 14/03/2020 07:23

We had a very stressful day yesterday trying to reschedule our trip of a lifetime to Florida. Thankfully manage to move it to October half term. Taken a £900 hit for the difference in cost of flight but she so relieved that we were able to transfer it. We were due to fly 12th April.

Who knows what the situation will be by October but I feel that the hysteria and panic will have subsided, the insurance companies will have some actual answers to questions of cover and the flight bans will have lifted or no longer be a threat.

worldsworststepfordwife · 14/03/2020 08:02

I’m sure you’ll have seen Denmark has closed its borders till mid April funny enough the day we should have been leaving, so that’s the decision removed from us so we’ve contacted them for refund and no doubt BA will be in touch re flights

"Yet people think they’ll be mincing off on holiday... "

My friend who lives in one continental European country has just booked a flight to another one for this weekend so people are still going away.

Lepetitpiggy · 14/03/2020 10:23

I've signed up to gov.uk advice emails as we are due to go to Portugal in a fortnight and have heard nothing...yet...

ThanksForAllTheFish · 14/03/2020 10:31

We are booked into a small cottage in a remote part of Scotland. Nothing around for miles. Not cancelled as yet because we are thinking it’s far enough away from people that we will be fine. I will be driving there. We will probably avoid service stations as much as possible now. Take our own food for lunch and stay in the car park to eat. Only issue I can see is if we need to take a bathroom break but I’m sure as long as we are extra careful to wash hands and disinfect afterwards with hand sanitiser we should be fine. Still playing it by ear though and obviously will cancel if we need to or if we have to self isolate during that time.

I would 100% not be travelling abroad or on aeroplanes over Easter break this year.

MsJaneAusten · 14/03/2020 12:50

Jet2 has just cancelled all flights to Spain and the Canaries. I’m actually glad. It takes the decision out of my hands.

FlamingoAndJohn · 14/03/2020 13:48

A friend of mine is sat in the airport in Spain and was told that hers was the last Jet2 flight out!

To those going skiing - you do realise that many places have closed slopes/resorts due to the virus, right?
From the Telegraph yesterday:

"Swiss ski resorts follow in the steps of those in Italy, which closed on Monday, and in Austria, which will operate for the final time this season on Sunday, as coronavirus puts an end to much of the European ski season, several weeks prematurely."

It's not about there being as many cases where you go as where you are - it's the movement between that's the problem, not to mention the fact you may well get stuck if borders close, or have to quarantine when you get back.

Shattered04 · 14/03/2020 20:25

We ha(d)ve a long awaited family ski trip to France at Easter - not a tour operator though. Pretty sure the latest news from France about shutting everything public down means that's the end of that. Although I would argue that skiing is an essential public place Grin

This must surely be enough for the travel insurance now. Gutted, but have spent the last two weeks coming to terms with it while still holding onto a bit of hope, and almost feel relief it's 99.9% definitely off now.

Shattered04 · 14/03/2020 21:21

France has just shut all its ski resorts, so I don't think there's anywhere worth skiing in Europe now. Not that anyone probably was expecting to go by this point!

carlywurly · 14/03/2020 21:34

About to lose a se Asia trip. Gutted but there were a number of internal flights as well as a long coach trip to the airport and it's just too many risk points. Things are escalating so quickly I know I'd spend my entire time checking for news updates and panicking at every cough.

Won't be covered unless gov advice changes. I guess it's money we didn't expect to see again Sad

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/03/2020 21:39

I really hope Butlins closes now to be honest so I can just get a refund. The money will come in handy if I lose my job due to lack of business. Sad

worldsworststepfordwife · 15/03/2020 15:45

So in the space of 24h the Scandi hotel chain have gone from a formal announcement to say any kind of booking can be refunded to now saying they’ll only change the date for non cancel able bookings, we don’t want to have to make other plans to go there another time of year so now well lose the money on the prepaid room

So note to all take screenshots of company announcements as they can backtrack, needless to say we didn’t grrr
