To ask when you think all schools will shut

Due to the corona virus.

Have been talking to a relative and am more worried than I was. Have three dc, one of whom gets ill at the drop of a hat.

Facts emerging from Italy are not great, so why aren’t we in complete shut down now? What is the government waiting for?

I reckon they waited for the budget as plans need to be put in place to pay people in self isolation.

SamSeabornforPresident · 11/03/2020 22:59

Laura Kunssberg is saying on Twitter that they're moving to 'Delay' tomo. And she knows everything.

The science is that whether it is hot water or not doesn’t matter. It is the action of washing and the soap that matters.

Hoik · 11/03/2020 23:02

I’d quite like to have my virus now, please. I have a dodgy heart and I’d like to bagsie my ITU bed before they’re all gone. Thank you.

I told DH yesterday that now is the best time to catch it while it's still being studied and the NHS isn't overwhelmed because all possible resources will be thrown at you whereas in a couple of months time you'll be lucky to have two paracetamol thrown at you.

ZombieFan · 11/03/2020 23:19

I would love to catch it now and get it over with. If only I lived closer to the study that is paying £3500 to spend 2 weeks in a holiday camp hospital with the virus.

Biffsboys · 11/03/2020 23:24

I honestly can’t understand the hype about closing schools while sports centres and swimming pools(germ soup) remain open ?

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2020 23:29

Because kids don’t spend 7 hours a day at the swimming pool while their parents go to work?

Fithles · 11/03/2020 23:32

nightsoutasap you can get her an emergency passport same day from the consulate/embassy in Denmark. Start making enquiries.

We needed one in similar circumstances whilst residing out of the UK. A couple of hundred quid, some admin and some meetings (by Skype) fixed it. Smile

FacingtheAbess · 11/03/2020 23:39

Hoik that's so true.

sigmu87 · 11/03/2020 23:41

I think from this Friday. Work from home will be the directive too and stay off if have a cold.

noblegiraffe · 11/03/2020 23:50

I just set my Y7s some homework due Tuesday and it’s a slightly weird feeling.

Parky04 · 11/03/2020 23:59

We have no reported cases in West Berkshire but you want to close the schools! Thank fuck you lot aren't in charge of the country!

SleepingStandingUp · 12/03/2020 03:36

One of ur local primary schools is closing for 3 days for a deep clean as three staff have "flu like symptoms", which is a marked contrast to other schools with confirmed cases who are doing nothing

Tw1nset · 12/03/2020 05:14

@Parky04 there have been confirmed cases in Berkshire. Thank fuck somebody os actually tracking this info

MaryBerrysBomberJacket · 12/03/2020 05:51

To those still shocked at the suggestion of closing schools, we now have kids being tested. In a large 2000+ school we have 7 students from 4 families, who have been in school for a fortnight. Can you not see how this has the potential to explode? I abandoned an A level biology revision lesson yesterday so we could properly talk about the situation, the response and the probably numbers. Even my 17 A level students came up.with better reasons as and plans that this government.

Sucksfake1 · 12/03/2020 06:19

I asked at parents evening as it's now in our borough. No outright plans the teacher knows of.

My toddler (different child) has a serious respiratory condition if he catches it he's dead basically.

DD's teacher has said she will send work home electronically if we as a family go on lockdown given the situation at home.

It's knowing when is the best time.

Cora1942 · 12/03/2020 06:29

It's not the schools but all other groups that are also a problem. Scouts, guides, swimming lessons, dancing, music group, football club. The children I care for have all these clubs. As well as the fact they are mixing with lots different children, the parents are too. And rural area , so different villages, towns. Could we at least close these.

itsgettingweird · 12/03/2020 06:48

I would having thought swimming lessons were a fab thing to carry on? Chlorine must be a better killer of germs than hand wash?!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 12/03/2020 07:36

I absolutely think they will close schools. Someone upthread was certain they wouldn’t.

We’ve been planning online lessons all week. So have lots of other schools. I think they will be the first thing they close. Hotbeds of germs

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 07:41

I’m guessing if schools close, which they probably will soon, then a lot of out of school activities will decide to close too.

MrsWombat · 12/03/2020 07:50

My random theory. I think what they will make an announcement two weeks before the end of Spring term (around Monday 23rd March) that they will be closing schools on Friday April 3rd for the Easter holidays and for at least two weeks after that. It will then give parents (and maybe even the government) a whole month to work out childcare issues. But also a lot of parents who can, will pull their kids out then ("why should I send my kids to school when they are closing then next week?") which will ease pressure on staff shortages etc.

Toomanycats99 · 12/03/2020 08:01

@itsgettingweird

I received a letter from swim school saying the chlorine was an effective germ killer and no concerns!
