What are people not able to get or is it all fine where you are?

Completely normal here, except for a lack of co-codamol & antibac gel. And to be fair, I only went in a couple of shops. No-one was even visibly stocking up. Very reassuring.

AwdBovril · 08/03/2020 21:28

We have a confirmed case 7 miles away (in the next reasonable sized town). Some of the children in DD's school are in isolation as they may have had contact. But there's no panic or weirdness.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 08/03/2020 21:35

Had an online shop delivered yesterday - all items were there including carex hand wash, toilet rolls, dettol spray air freshener, paracetamol etc, which surprised me.
Went out for Calpol 6+ today but couldn't get it anywhere so had to settle for children's ibuprofen. Wanted wraps for the freezer but all sold out too.

DM went shopping to tesco today and they were completely out of loo roll - I'm a bit mystified about the rush on it tbh.

SnoozyLou · 08/03/2020 21:38

Most things seem to be creeping back, but I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever see hand sanitiser again.

SnoozyLou · 08/03/2020 21:40

@hamsterchump 😂

I was at a supermarket today and all was pretty orderly (albeit they did have more people than usual restocking shelves) - slightly low on loo roll. I shared a picture of it online and begged people to stop bloody sharing empty shelves pictures on social media, it's just encouraging panic. My more local one is missing big bags of pasta.

I think people do need to calm the fuck down - the shutters are not going to fall on normal life for another few weeks, people can just put in a few extra things each week for a while

And the loo roll thing is just stupid, IMO it's purely because the rumour of it running short in the event of no-deal Brexit so now people have this Pavlovian response where they have to buy more loo roll in an emergency.

Bouledeneige · 08/03/2020 22:03

On Saturday Waitrose was out of loo roll and pasta. My local Sainsbury's had just put a few packets of loo roll back on the shelves and I got some. It's nuts.

AlexaShutUp · 08/03/2020 22:11

I'm in the Midlands, we have already had a confirmed case in our town. Shops are definitely emptier than usual - plenty of toilet paper at present, but there are shortages of pasta, handsoap, painkillers/cold remedies etc. And handgel nowhere to be seen.

Our local Tesco has started rationing lots of essential items too.

I’m in Melbourne, Australia. There’s no toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, napkins, foil, cling wrap, baking paper, soap, body wash, hand soap, deodorant, sanitary items, nappies, wipes, formula, pain relief, tinned food, pasta, rice, flour, sugar, salt, water, coffee, UHT products, noodles, pasta sauce, frozen foods. Basically anything that might last a few weeks. Literally nothing. Completely bare shelves in every single supermarket. They can’t restock as the moment they bring stock from out the back they’re swooped on and it’s unloaded immediately by desperate customers.

Mcgieml3 · 09/03/2020 20:18

Oh no! That sounds awful. I really hope we won’t go the same way...

Why’s it more extreme over there I wonder -the fires?

I’ve been to Home Bargains, M and S Food and a small Tesco today. Most stuff in stock - including pasta, cheap paracetamol and hand wash. Didn’t check loo roll as I’m fully stocked. The more people see the full shelves, the less likely they are to panic buy.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 09/03/2020 20:36

Annoyingly the loo roll thing is true here , DP went to the local Tesco here and there was none there (which is annoying as we could actually do with some not stocking up, we actually only have two rolls left....presumably we are screwed in armageddon as who knew it was going to be the currency of choice? I sort of assumed water or cigarettes maybe....nope....andrex sodding 3ply....how depressing )

Bloody ridiculous the loo roll thing.

chomalungma · 10/03/2020 20:41

Our local Morrisons had a large pile of packs of 24 near the entrance. I think they were trying to make a point.....

Stripeyfrog · 10/03/2020 20:46

My local supermarket had no
Toilet roll
Pasta
Baked beans
Toilet cleaning wipes
Other anti bac wipes
Liquid soap
Anti bac gel
Oranges
UHT milk
Shortbread biscuits
Diet coke
And some cereals.

I didnt want or need all these things, I just noticed lots of empty shelves. I needed some toilet wipes so bought some bleach and cloths (which I guess is more eco anyway)

Floooy174 · 10/03/2020 21:00

Tesco extra near me has everything except Paracetamol (although has stacks of cold and flu tabs which contain paracetamol bizarrely) and hand sanitiser. I don’t see panic here. We have no cases at all in our town currently and I haven’t seen any evidence of toilet rolls selling out. People are going way OTT with this

Mcgieml3 · 10/03/2020 22:14

It sounds like some areas are worse than others ...
